Went to GC at Garland, TX to check out thier B2G1 but was suprised to see they were closing, kinda sad cause I just started going there.

edit: I forgot to mention I picked up the hardcover Limited edition artbook of Assasin's Creed bundled with the guide for $17.54. They had 20% off guides.
Amazon has a new sealed copy going for $376.98!

After surviving the first round, the one in 5 towns about a mile from JFK is closing.

Only 20% off now, but I think they have a bunch of stock they received from stores already closed.
 
The store at north Clark in Chicago is at 20% off game in game crazy and the holly wood video that its connected to it is selling all of the games they rent for 20% off and movies were 3 for 20. All but new releases.
 
I expect by the end of 2010 all of Hollywood Video and Game Crazy brands will be gone and their focus will solely be on the Movie Gallery brand and trying to salvage and compete with the other competition.

It's crappy for Game Crazy cuz I loved shopping there versus GameStop....but no way it can survive with a corporation run by morons.

It's going to be a slow and painful death this year and I feel bad for all the honest workers, because I too was on the cutting board last year.

The Maryland Parkway location has been closed for some time now. Only Lake Mead is left.. I have to head over there this week and use up my credit. I was hoping they'd get the DSi XL but at this rate I'll be lucky if they stay open that long.
 
Big selection at the Katy, Tx, HWV and GC. They aren't closing but they're having the B2G1 used games sale. Fine print says that MVP doesn't stack w/ B2G1 sale; I don't know for sure b/c I don't have an MVP. Lots of games available, esp. for 360, including Darksiders, Bayonetta, Saboteur, all at same or better prices than GS. Not much from the last month or so. I wish I had known about this sale when it started; I'll bet there were newer games at the beginning. I picked up:

I work there currently. None of it is gonna survive. If you can't run a business where you buy games for $27ish in store credit (close to $22 in cash) and sell them for $40-50 a piece, you need to be fucking killed. I'm so over our terrible management.

I don't think GC will last until the end of the year. I think GC will be phased out first and that they'll have a central core of HWV/MG stores.. and those will probably last until 2011.

Even the GC stores that are still open have their replenishments extremely limited and most stores aren't getting new release titles beyond what's preordered. It's sad to see it like this.. it's been my favorite store for years.
 
stopped by my closest GC ready to spend my $300 in credit, and they had "old/bad" games left, anything decent was shipped to another store, so i was left with a gift card

my suggestion get your credit transfered into a gift card or else....

The one you were thinking of was in the FM parking lot, next to Papa Johns. It's closing with the rest of the store.
 
any news on when recently closing Gamecrazy's discount % will increase

my store is at 20% off gamevault only, no new releases.

Im wondering when I should check back for the 40% drop.
 
I had to run an errand this morning nearby the lone surviving GC within 20 miles; this one is closing now as well. It's currently having a 30% sale on a bunch of last gen and crappy PS3/360 games.

While it sucks to see another alternative to GS go, I am beyond relieved that I used up all my trade credit a few months back while they still had good stuff.
 
Just went to my local Game Crazy in Midland Michigan. They had 30% off games, ended up picking up a used copy of Demon's Souls for $35, didn't think that was a half bad deal.

Ditto this. I by wandered into one of the last two GC's in my area at the beginning of the B2G1 sale and was able to use up all my credit on worthwhile and better games. They were liquidating the next day and the clerk was pulling the latest used (many new were already gone) releases while I browsed. He was cool enough to sell me any that I wanted before he sent them back. I am very sorry to see this franchise go. Just re-upped my MVP a few weeks earlier thinking the two remaining stores were safe after the first two rounds of closings (oops). Guess I'll bring in a few games for buffing before they're gone.
 
I drove past my local store (Willingboro, NJ) today, and was surprised to see that they were closing, with the discount at 30% currently.
I hadn't been following this thread, and didn't know there was another round of closings after the initial batch, so I thought they were "safe".

Too bad, I actually got a couple of great deals at GC toward the end of last year, and on top of that this store was actually closer to me than any GS (not that my local GS is that far).

I was hoping to finally get a deal on Demon's souls....but no dice. Wish I had found out about this earlier.
 
30% off at the Five Towns one in Nassau County now.

More game guides than I have ever seen in my life, there have to be some interesting ones left when the percentage gets really high.

Tons of used games there now, and I guess they could ship some out before the discount gets too much, but there are hardly any stores left in the NYC area anymore.
 
The percentages won't hit really high.

The first round of store closures, they liquidated everything. This time, Movie Gallery has hired liquidators. Game Crazy and HWV stores, for the most part, will not go above 50% off.
 
For the Long Islanders on here, one of the associates at HWV told me that all of the HWV & GC stores on Long Island is closing EXPECT the Lindenhurst one. Dont know if that is correct though.

No more Game Crazys around Denver :(

I'm kind of sad to see them go, at one point we had like 9 of them or more I think. Hopefully Game Stop doesn't revert back to how they operated when they first took over EB, after GC goes completely under.

...hm...I think most will go more than 50% off. My third closing hwv and we've always made it to 90% off in the last week...currently at 70% at my current store. Can't say anything for GC since none around me. I think they would like to just get rid of stuff while they can.
 
Just found out the local store is closing. Workers claimed the bad sales/rentals by HWV brought them down along.
The other sad thing is most of the good stuff was sent to corporate, and at 20% off there isn't much to pick.

I can't count the number of times that I've mentioned that this is standard procedure.

dawn - standalone HWV's seem to be hitting 80-90% off, but HWV's with GC stores closing are usually ending at 50-60% off of the games. DVD's hit 80-90% or so.

This round of closures is done, so if your store survived, it'll be okay for the next few months.
 
There is a a couple GC around my area so I will definitely check this out, hopefully I can find some gold mines or not.
 
If it has not been posted yet, eventually ALL Game Crazy's will be gone. Of course they don't tell their employees this info but they are IN FACT all going to be gone by the end of this year. So if your local Game Crazy employees are saying they aren't going out business, it's because they don't know yet.

I'm only saying this because if you have a Game Crazy near you and want to come up on some good deals, give it time and you will get em ;)

Wow dude, for some reason I knew throwing the Chapter 13 in there and not the other information might cause a reply like this. I under estimated the knowledge of this sites users. Good job for you, Again, because I do not have time to go through all the laws nor am I knowledgeable enough myself to hold the argument, EVERY Gamecrazy will be gone, period. So everyone keep your eyes peeled for the deals!!!!
 
guy told me they sent all the good stuff away and it's empty with garbage games at high prices

check the hollywood video, i forgot to check their rack lol
 
The Game Crazy by my office was only at 30% off, but today it looks like they packed up whatever was left (and it was a LOT) and is gone. The Hollywood Video it is attached to is still renting and only at 30% off.
 
My last GC's in the area are closing. I have about $5 in credit left at the one closest to me. I have nothing that I want to buy though, and I sure don't want to spend cash out of pocket on anything. I'll probably swing by and see what they have left tomorrow.
 
the GC in my area has been closed for a while but the hollywood video carries their games and had them at 50% off initially and then to 30% and last time i checked they were selling them at sticker price $5 and up hopefully they'll bring back the discount to get rid of the games.
 
I went in to mine today and it was 20% off of everything but it was all garbage and still high priced. In fact a few weeks ago before they were liquidating the prices were BETTER on their used movies.
 
After finding out all the local GCs around here are closing I drove about 40 miles to the closest one that was still open to use up my remaining GC. Wish I didn't have to but the closing stores boxed up and shipped out pretty much everything decent before even starting the "sale".

When I got to the GC they had a TON of games, especially GoW 3. Must have been 100 copies just sitting out. Amazing. After talking to the clerk for a little bit it turns out he just started working there after being unemployed for 9 months. I felt so sorry for the poor bastard I paid for those game protection plans, maybe he'll get some decent hours before that store closes eventually.

traveled more than hr to san jose GC, to use my $300 credit (before GC goes under completely), so i took advantaged of the B2G1 used game deal,

ac2, bioshock 2, mag (all ps3)

monopoly (ps3), brain age 2 (ds), proffesor laython etc (ds)

2 $50 PSN cards

my wife also found "my fitness coach w/pedometer" (ds) for 9.99 (even tho the tag said 29.99)
 
Just went to my gamecrazy. Thing looked like it got robbed. Surprising as they always talked about how well they were doing and how they got all the stuff from all the other closed gamecrazies. They were told this friday and will be closing on Wednesday. They looked kind of crushed. The manager said he already got a job lined up, but he didn't really look too happy in all honesty. He was just playing games on the tv.

I wonder how the other employees are taking it.

I used my ten dollars from the two pre order games on Star Ocean 2. Got it for ten dollars.

Really sucks. End of an era right there. I was at this Hollywood video since it first opened. I remember renting VHS tapes for 1.50 for five days. I would go there every weekend to stock up on horror movies. Sad to see it go.

Regardless, please let me know.

What's sad is that GC was doing decent - as I've mentioned before, most GC stores that are shutting down are shutting down because the attached Hollywood Video did terrible in the past year or so. Most of the time, it has nothing to do with how GC is doing. If only they had branched out and opened their own standalone stores..

and regarding hoping that they get more hours.. after they've been told they're closing, numbers and additives don't matter. Most of the time, the manager will say to hell with the labor matrix and you'll see employees come in and do doubles every day, collecting a toooonnnnn of overtime.
 
Turns out they just closed the Game Crazy section in my local store. Just about everything moved to the Hollywood Video side of the store (Lawrence, NY).

40% off now and still more game guides than I have ever seen (most a year old or so). After that scare I went ahead and picked up Guitar Hero Metallica. I didn't want to risk losing out to save a couple of more dollars.

I went back there and got a more detailed explanation scorch

They said that at first they were going to have SIX weeks before the store closed down. Then late last week they were told that the Gamecrazy portion of the store was closing on Wednesday April 7th. The funny thing is the six weeks is exactly how much time the Hollywood Video has left before its gone. I was there on Sunday and they said they got this news late in the week so I'm assuming it was either Friday or Wednesday at the very earliest. I still wonder if it's a lease thing because the hollywood video that it's attached to is still going to be in business for the next 5-6 weeks.

It's sad really. This Gamecrazy was actually doing pretty good and it was the only one in this general area as there was no Gamestop near its vicinity and it was near several schools too so it was a more popular and desirable location. It was also next to grocery stores and fast food places so it was quite a busy place at times. They were talking about how they were doing good and how they got all this inventory from the other gamecrazy stores and how they were overflooded with merchandise. And they were. Store was overflowing with stuff. When I went there however, the store looks picked clean. Any good used games gone, all strategy guides gone, most good NEW games gone, all consoles gone. It's a sad sight to be honest. And it really sucks because this was the store I preordered everything at. I wished that it would have at least lasted as long as the Hollywood Video before closing.

Closest Gamecrazy is over an hour now. Guess I'm going to all online from now on instead of buying from stores.

Fantastic. So much for "hey guys, this round of closings is over, you can rest easy".. now it seems like, if anything, they're shutting them down faster. When I saw an old store close, they had a month to clearance stuff, then Hollywood had a month, then it was closed. Now they're giving them (GC) less than a week!? I guess the company is finding that Hollywood can sell whatever GC has in their inventory. It really makes me mad that they do that because it puts a ton of people from GC out of work. They usually offer the GC workers a spot at Hollywood, but if that's the case, why not just keep the GC side open? It doesn't make any sense.
 
We have a Hollywood Video that is closing but all the signs just say Hollywood Video. I guess I will give GameCrazy a call to make sure they are not closing. I tried to get that list to load from gamecrazy's site but it didn't work.
 
well that sucks. Guess I will have to check it out and see if they still have TE stick for the PS3 in stock.
