thats in no way accurate , it lists the one remaining game crazy near me as staying open yet I called today and they are closing.....so its always best to call and ask.

Except for when someone comes in off the street and just wants to buy one, like I tried to do. It's called having a good inventory, the less you have, the less sales you make.

Yeah, the two GCs near me aren't even on the locator for HWV. So that's no help at all. I didn't ask the guy if the store was closing, just too depressing to ask.

If you've got credit with a store that's closing, you'll be able to throw it onto a GC so at least you can use it at a HWV right?

The only problem is that Game Crazy isn't in a position to be buying extra copies of games and sending them to stores they think they won't sell at. I mean, I'm sure there are a lot of people who end up going somewhere else to buy the game they were looking for at Game Crazy, and neither the store nor the customer ends up happy. It's not like the GC stores get to say, "hm, and I think we'll take a few copies of No More Heroes 2, and Darksiders, and hm, can you send us some more New Super Mario Bros., too?" They're basically at the mercy of corporate when it comes to that kind of stuff (from what I understand), which actually starts a horrible, vicious cycle. If a store starts to underperform, corporate may decide to send the store less products because it doesn't think all the products it sends will sell, and when customers come in and can't find the games they're looking for, sales decrease even more.

From what I understand, you can even do a store a favor (and correct me if I'm wrong) when it comes to their new games' stock with pre-ordering. Even if you think you may end up getting the game somewhere else for a better deal, if you keep your $5 down on it until the release day, chances are that store is going to get one more of that game in stock. And if you let the store know you aren't interested in the game any more, not only will you be able to spend the $5 you put down on it on something else/get it back on a gift card, but that store will have an extra copy of that game for another customer. Granted, you don't want to leave them with an extra copy of Hello Kitty Island Adventure, but for a lot of hyped mainstream games, you can really do them a favor.

Yes. People were doing this last time the liquidations were running.
 
Game Crazy didn't have enough money to send stores Mass Effect 2 strategy guides on release day, there's no way they'd take a gamble with No More Heroes 2 or any other non-mainstream game.

The last time they gambled with sending a lot of "extra copies".. stores were sent a ton of Fight Night and Bionic Commando.. I'm pretty sure my store STILL has 30+ new copies of both Bionic Commando and Fight Night Round 4.
 
IMO, most of the time it's pretty foolish to go to GC or GS for new games anyway. Best Buy, Wal Mart, Target, Amazon will always have new releases available. They're always sealed and many times will have a better price. The only reasons to go to GC or GS is to buy used games (during promotions only), look for hard to find smaller releases (but Amazon is still better for that), or to take advantage of trade-in deals.


Hell, last year every new game I bought was either a pc digital download, a hard copy from Amazon/Newegg or a deal from a b&m retailer. When it comes to new games, neither GC or GS can really compete.

The fact that a company won't send a game to a store if it isn't a pre-order (GS employees give me the same speech), is just the icing on the crap cake.

That's usually not the choice of the retailer, it's the choice of the judge during the bankruptcy (though this was more than likely pre-planned, not sure didn't read up on it).. but if it was pre-planned, they knew they'd have to have a neutral liquidator.

Companies in bankruptcy usually are not allowed to liquidate their own assets.
 
I swear that my closing game crazy was so idiotic. First they didn't follow through with any pre-order bonus codes for the last 6 months. I was told it was too bad for you policy of corporate, because the store was never sent any. I told them to refund my money for Uncharted 2 and that I would get it else where. The clerk was pissed telling me he would never be able to sell it now, and started to insult me to my face. I contacted corporate and never heard back from them. The manager actually heard about this from the girl who worked at Hollywood next-door and apologized the next time I was in there.

Second, I was in there a couple weeks ago to officially cancel the money I put down on Star Wars Force Unleashed Sith Edition they had ordered for me, 6 weeks had gone by and no game showed up. The manager was pissed at corporate because they had sent him like 50 copies of Rogue Warrior at release when he only had 3 pre-orders. He had been trying to get more Super Mario Brothers in because they had only sent him like 4 extra copies past his pre-order and sold them all within an hour of opening. He had to turn away people for the last month because they wouldn't send him any.

So has anyone found anything decent @ 20% off? Did the liquidation company jack up the prices? I might try to hit a location on the way home from work.
 
Some GC stores are selling at 50% off. I saw an email sent to some stores on the counter of one I stopped in that had the subject line of something like "selected stores 50% off sale" from corporate. I would check (by calling or going to) your local GC. The other GC store nearby me had the 20% sale with "very little stock."

Usually when I call, I just ask if the GC has any deals or promotions going on right now rather than ask if the store is closing (usually the employee will come right out and say they're closing).

One of my local and well-stocked GC had the 50% sale on everything going and I was able to stop in and get a bunch of new PS3 games for $12-20. With my leftover FTF credit, it came out to just $8 each for 4 mostly new games, two shrink-wrapped.

They had a bunch of game guides too, but at $5 a guide I decided against buying them.

For some reason no one was buying the PS3 games, but the DS and GameCube stock was gone. The 360 stock was going quick too, but many decent to good PS3 games were still around.
 
The majority of stores are at 20%, but I have heard of a few being at 50%.

The liquidation company took most of the product. Prices weren't jacked up. It's the same liquidation company used by FYE/Sam Goody, so if you saw the shitty stock at Sam Goody and FYE stores going out of business, you know what to expect.

It's not ALL terrible, though. If you missed games like Ghostbusters, Red Faction Guerilla, Lost Planet (PS3), Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, etc the first time around, now's your chance to pick them up for fairly cheap.

Right, it is sad that the stores don't get any say in what they get sent. You'd figure the people that actually work there might know their clientele better than some forecasting model that probably isn't very accurate. But it's cheaper to have a program just handle it I suppose.

Ouch, yeah. No wonder they were selling them for so cheap. I'll be honest; I've never cared about strat guides. I know there's a better margin on those than games but I don't buy/use them.

What do you think pre-orders are for!? they gauge the interest of a particular title for that store. For example, one store got 80 pre-orders for Darksiders so they were sent 100 copies. Another store got 5 preorders so they got about 8 copies. Does this make sense? Pre-ordering signals corporate. YOU control the stock.

I got a question, maybe it should be at God of War III related thread, but does pre-order it need to be at GameCrazy or can it be at Hollywood Video? The closer GameCrazy's closed and the closest is 7 miles away.:whistle2:|

maybe instead of the near gamecrazy around me being about 30 miles away, now i might be able to find one 150 miles away.

that bites for gamecrazy. wonder how much longer they can cling onto the used games business before theyre all closed.
 
ugh, the GC across the street from me is closing.. That blows. I gotta go there tomorrow and pull my credit on a giftcard, or spend it on something.
 
Alien vs Predator games are in, but not my preordered Hunter's Edition was still not there. Was told it was delayed and there is listed date on them arriving. My store survives, but should I wait this one out(AvPwise)?
 
I scored Zak & Wiki for Wii for about $11. It was in GREAT shape too...the manager also found the original case in the back too. No manual, but that's no biggie. They also had Metal Slug Anthology for Wii for about $11 used also. I was gonna go back & get it, but my new job starts about 2 weeks later than I thought it would. This was @ a Movie Gallery store btw.

The company has decided to NOT up the clearance prices at a lot of the Game Crazy stores in the OP. Actually, what's going to happen, is that most Game Crazy stores that are "closing down" will be closing this Sunday with remaining stock transferred over to Hollywood Video, who will up the clearance price. The games go to 30% off at Hollywood tomorrow.

It's a way for the company to fire all the Game Crazy employees at closing stores but still keep stock. Classy.

Yea I talked to the local Game Crazy manager and they are closing at the end of the week. They already transfered some of their stuff to Hollywood video
 
Now the AvP Hunter's Edition is going to be delayed for me until next week Tuesday or Thursday. Was told that shipments were Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I'm the only one who preordered a Hunter's. At worst, I skip this game and on to the next upcoming title. The toy was the selling point for me, but if it wasn't meant to be it just wasn't.
 
I doubt the B2G1 would apply to closing stores. Found out that one of the last 3 locations in 30 miles radius is closing. A year ago we had about 8 in that radius. Anyone know how much Halo Wars or Rogue Warriors sell for @ GC used?

Halo Wars was $14.99 used when I went yesterday.... forget what Rouge Warrior was at, but also remember you can grab Halo Wars Platinum Hits edition from Walmart with all of the DLC included for $19.99 new if you think you're going to want to sink some time into it.
 
Went to one of the last two (out of about 10) GameCrazys in my area. The clerk there was pulling games. Most of the new games were already pulled. He said there will be 1 HWV store left in the metro area. Stock that is left will be 30% off tomorrow. This store is not on the list on the OP. I thought it was safe, but I guess after the bankruptcy filing, there is a new round of closings. Used the B2G1 to use up all my credit. He told me B2G1 will not be available there tomorrow.
 
Finally bought some games last night @ 50% off, nothing earth shattering but all for around 10$ each.

Has anyone been to their GameCrazys in the last week or so? The last two in my area are liquidating tomorrow or Friday. These survived the closings at the end of the year and are new since the stores listed in the OP. It sounds like there will be 1 Hollywood Video serving a population of 1.5+ million when the closings are completed.

There was already one round of closings this year.. those stores just closed.. looks like a new round is starting, this time with even less notice - a friend that works at a store in another area said they got notice that they're closing on Sunday morning, and liquidators showed up first thing Monday morning.. unbelievable.

When I went to my local GC to try to take advantage of the B2G1 the clerk told me the store was closing and they wouldn't honor any promo's at all. He told me most all the good games had been pulled to other stores and then made some comment about "technically this isn't even gamecrazy anymore" though I'm not sure how that works from a business standpoint. Anyway the lamest part about it was that nothing was even on sale. He said they haven't made an announcement yet on liquidation prices so everything was still full price until they did. I ended up going downtown to one of the last surviving GC's to get the B2G1 deal.
 
Which store did you hit Josh? I went to the one in Pflugerville yesterday to find out the news. Well, the only other one in the area was Cedar Park, which is getting closed too.
Bleh.

Found out that the store in Pflugerville is going to start the liquidation sale on Monday, 03/15. I imagine the Cedar Park one will be on the same day.

I picked up Heavy Rain from the Cedar Park store to burn through the remaining balance I had on my account. The manager there was always a cool guy and he seemed pretty upset about the whole thing.

Las I knew in Vegas we were down to 4 counting Pahrump and Henderson.

the 3 that were closest to me all closed, now if I wanted to go to one I'd be driving by 2 Gamestops in any direction so I just quit bothering. Plus some of the misplaced workers that worked for me or that I liked went to GS so I keep my business with them currently.

Valle Verde is closed but if you're interested, the Hollywood attached to it has the 50% off sale going on with the games.. The one on Maryland Pkwy is showing a "Store Closing - Savings Storewide" on the store locator of the Game Crazy site (I was there early last month there wasn't much worth noting to buy and has probably been picked). The one that is remaining open as of now is all the way on Lake Mead which is where I went to spend most my credit on the new titles. I'm unsure about the Pahrump location even though it's still showing up on the store locator.

The final two stores in Dayton are closing down and the remaining workers are all generally cool people. In fact I had worked with a lot of them when I was with the company a few years ago... and my old store closed already.

I'm going to go visit one of them today and see if there is anything to pick up.

I went to the one on 41st street. It's in the Hancock shopping center, next to highland mall just off I-35 South.

The clerk was cool. He stacked the B2G1 with the MVP. As far as selection goes, there were a few newer titles there for 360 and PS3. Wii, PSP, and DS selection sucked. I wanted one of my three games to be a Wii game (was hoping for either NSMBW or Punch-out for my kid) and they had basically nothing worth grabbing.

BTW for the Austinites, the store on William Cannon is shut down completely and the one near HEB on I-35 South is liquidating. That one on 41st is the only 1 left that's still surviving that I'm aware of.
 
Just found out my local Gamecrazy in Midland, MI is closing too. I was pretty surprised, cuz the one employee I actually liked there spent 20 minutes explaining to me why their store was safe a few weeks ago. Right now it's only 10% off everything, and your MVP no longer is valid. No B2G1 deal either, despite receiving an email about it earlier this week. Yeah, other than the one dude, I won't be missing the rest of those a-holes.
