48 hours/2 days, same as GS. I think it's a little ridiculous that you waited two weeks. Your deposit is still on the game, though. Stores can't sit on copies of games forever.

Hey man, life gets in the way and since my closest GC is 10 miles away in one of the busiest streets in this city, it's not always the most convenient to get to. I recall them saying they held it for 3 weeks or so. I just wanted confirmation.
 
Does Game Crazy do any Buy 1 get 1 free or Buy 2 get 1 free promotions for new games? I'm wondering if I should wait for something like that or spend my GC credit now.

They have B2G1 on used games and B1G1 on new games under $18.99. I don't think either are in effect, but they usually pop up throughout the year.
 
quick question. I was wondering if the halo 3 special edition is worth getting? can someone tell me please? I don't know anyone who has one to ask and was wondering if they're really loud or what. I saw a used one for $179.99 and new one for $319.99 and am contemplating on which one to get. 1 is brand new sealed of course with everything and warranty and the other just has 90 day warranty with gamecrazy. Used one is console and 20gb hd only though.

Personally, I think you would be insane to buy any used Xbox 360 (I'm on 360 #5). Besides a 20GB hardrive fills up fast.
 
I've already got a 360 arcade, no problems and I have a black 120gb hd too. I've just always wanted a halo 3 special edition 360 and now that I finally found one I want to get it but am curious to know which chipset it has and how noisy it is. By the way, $50 back for buying a 360 elite is not a bad deal..

it comes with the falcon chipset. mine ran quiet and smooth for the year i had it. have the re5 red 360 now :cool:

My "Better spend your credit soon" post a few weeks ago was, in fact, referring to more store closures. Those stores were notified today. I don't know how they're doing the liquidation process (or even if they're doing one), but a lot of product has to be out of the store by Tuesday. Assuming they're keeping the stores open for the liquidation process, they will probably do like they did during the last liquidation - pump the closing stores full of $4.99 titles that no one wants and discount them heavily.

Please do not call your local store and ask. Many store employees do not know yet. Many store employees are bitter and don't want to talk about it. If you want to know whether or not your store is closing, check the full list of store closures, which should be made public on Tuesday, February 2nd (or so I hear).

WOW! bummer. I'm about 99.9% sure my old store is gonna be safe, so my friends will still have their job, but my old Asst. Mgr. became a store manager and got a new store, I hope he's safe.
huge bummer for everyone else who lost a job.
 
Just called my store to see if they were closing and they didn't know..Lol! Just messing around. I haven't even passed by my local Game Crazy since the last time I went to pick up Prototype new for 20$ which was in the summer time. Might have to wait and see what the word is and see if they're doing anything worthwhile. If the GameCrazy goes down than the Hollywood Video should be coming down with it since the few times I went there it was always empty as heck. Poor employees.
 
Hey just curious, did anyone here preorder MAG in a GameCrazy store? Its just that Im looking for the Raven outfit.(Or was it Valor?) Well if anyone could help me please PM. I will trade for other DLC or PP.

From what I understand, they put the $5 x whatever amount of games you pre-ordered on a gift card to spend at another Game Crazy/Hollywood Video, or let you spend the credit in the store before they ship everything out. GC stores closing at this point, though, would be major YMMV.

Oh, fuck. I missed this post. >_>; I was wondering why everyone was talking closures again... I'm pretty sure my GC will make it- they always seem to do good business- but it's a shame to hear more are closing, even if it means some CAGs get to get in on some cheap games. Like Scorch said, be polite, guys. Put yourself in their shoes. And wish for the best for Scorch and all other CAGs who work at GC.
 
Aint that a bitch. I was hoping this was not the case.

I can only hope my closest store stays open because I would hate to drive 15+ miles all the time.

Regarding preorders if your store shuts down..

As JC said, you can get it put on a gift card or pick up your item at another store. The rumored final date for these stores that I'm hearing is March 31st, but again, that's assuming that they go into liquidation mode. It's really weird of them to issue a 22 page pull report and tell stores to be done by Tuesday. I've heard of them closing stores overnight, literally, but I don't think that will be the case here. I will try to find out a little more information tomorrow, hopefully they'll tell us what the blue hell is going on.

Oh, and there was also no communication and no preparation of this event other than a pretty blanket "hey guys there might be some more closures" a few weeks ago.. workers just went in this morning and saw the notice to pull all copies of newer titles off the shelf and ship them back to DC.

If your local store remains open, expect it to be stocked to the teeth of tons and tons and tons of games since the stores that are closing will ship them to DC and then the DC will ship them right back to us. It's such a waste of money to do this. For example, they sent something a few weeks ago ordering us to send back all new copies of Il 3 on the 360 and PS3. A week goes by, and what do I get in a shipment? ... a few brand new copies of Il 3. What the hell?
 
Both of the stores near me look to be closing, but I'm not sure about liquidation. One store came right out and said they were closing in three weeks (due to rising rent) when I asked about promotions. They're a high sales / volume store, which makes me wonder whether the business success of a store matters. They said they weren't liqudating, just selling business as usual until closure. Any leftover games go to other GCs. They would not be getting any new inventory or shipping any games back to DC, as far as I know.

The other store doesn't know (I called and asked a few days ago before seeing Scorch's post, sorry!), but they are pulling lots of titles off the shelf, so that's a hint.
 
The rising rent thing is a growing problem among stores. I wish the company built their own buildings instead of rented them. Sure, it initially costs more, but it would've eventually been the better decision.

NO. Be polite about it. Go in the store and take a look around. If a lot of the new release games are gone and it looks like they haven't received an shipments recently, they're most likely closing. If the employees know anything about it, they'll probably tell you about it. If you can avoid asking, please do. Imagine receiving fifty calls a day and every customer who walks in the door reminding you you're losing your job. It'd be like that.

you have every right to call and ask if you want, they can just tell you straight up or bullshit you. don't listen to these people. why would you waste gas driving to gamecrazy to find out something you can ask over the phone? of course, be polite and nice about it and don't rub it in..unless they deserve it. by the way, my local one isn't closing but it's been dead of new titles so hmm

Good point.

As always, be polite and courteous when calling. If you want, ask about a pre-order you may or may not have made and how would the store closing affect your pre-order. I'm sure then they'll tell you whether or not your pre-order is safe.

Your local one is probably closing, then.

And yeah, everyone has every right to call. I'm asking that they don't because this is a difficult time for all GC employees. You can be respectful when you call, but you and I know that a lot of users here wouldn't.

If you want, ask about a pre-order you may or may not have made and how would the store closing affect your pre-order. I'm sure then they'll tell you whether or not your pre-order is safe.

And I'm sure they won't, considering no one knows what the hell is going on other than some stores are closing. There's no further information right now. If there was, and I'm able to communicate it, then I would tell you. For now, we play the waiting game.
 
Call. C'mon stop pampering these people it's not like they are kids who are getting bad news as if their life is going to end. Heck, all the gc employees who were at a store that closed in my city got hired @ gs in the next city because their mgr was hired and he rehired his whole staff. It's not the end of the world and I prefer that they would have not worked @ gs so I just avoid that store now..which used to be a favorite but not anymore.
 
This has nothing to do with "pampering" anything or anyone. As I stated in the post when I mentioned it, many employees don't even know yet. They'll say that they aren't closing. I had to tell three people at other stores today. This is why I asked you guys to wait for the official list, but you seem hell bent on calling and bugging employees when they don't even know yet. There will be an official list of store closings soon.
 
Bottom line, do what you want as it's all about freedom of choice and as I stated before it saves you time and gas. Just call over the phone but be nice about it that's all. End of that discussion and looking forward to more price drops and sales.
 
I'm in the "Don't fucking call" boat. Last round of stores shutting down I got about 20 calls a day asking if we were selling stuff off cuz we were going outta business. I eventually just started hanging up it got so vulturish.

You really want to save time?? Wait a few days, according to Scorch who has been forth coming with information, there is no official closing list and employees are playing the waiting game. So wait a few more days, we should see a list and it will save you time from calling. Yea, choice and all that, just don't be a dick. Would waiting a few days to know harm you? The deals don't come for weeks anyways, so why call now and just bug them?

whoaaaaaaa easssssssssssssssyyyyyyyyy kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillllllllllerrrrr! No one from what i've read is calling asking for deals, a clearance sale or anything. All this topic has been about is asking if the store is closing or not. No need to get upset and to the guy who keeps hanging up on people..LOL. If you get hired @ gs or somewhere else and people recognize you it'll be worst and that does not make you a good worker honestly because no matter how frustrated or mad you are, you shouldn't be rude to people. They have every right to call and ask questions as long as it is done respectively. Just like when you ask if they want to be an mvp member, want disc buffing, want to pre order a game..customers don't go on a rampage and get raged on you so always look at it from the other perspective. I mean, the least you could do is say "not that I am aware of". Just keep it nice and simple.

For one thing, just because no one's posted about it doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Nobody wants to look like a douche in front of an entire internet community. That's why we're taking measures to make sure these poor guys aren't constantly pestered over the phone by people constantly reminding them they're losing their jobs- and the majority of the time, especially when it's people they don't recognize, the employees HAVE to know the callers are hoping to make a buck or two from their misfortune.

The irony. You know SO many people, like last time (not necessarily from CAG), are going to be calling to yell at employees because they had credit to spend their, pre-orders that won't be fulfilled, etc.- and the employees are going to be in the same boat, except they're losing their jobs. Can you blame them for not wanting to pick up the phone, or hanging up when someone is rude to them? No one is going to not hire you because you wouldn't pick up/hung up the phone early at a job you knew you weren't going to have for much longer to listen to rude, inconsiderate customers. I'm sorry, but if I worked at a GC at this point, being a "good worker" for a company that punishes loyal employees for dumb decisions by guys at corporate would be the LAST thing on my mind. I mean, I would treat nice customers nicely, and help people who needed help with something, but I wouldn't have any problem telling jerks off. What are they going to do, fire me? What's corporate going to do, lose business? What's the customer going to do, not come back?

Of course they have the right to. Nobody ever said they didn't. The only thing I ask is that if you do, don't just come out and ask it, don't act happy if you think you might be getting in on some cheap games, and be respectful to the guy you're talking to. As far as those other points go, I don't really agree with that. For one thing, I work at a Sam Goody/F.Y.E., and let me tell you- people DO get mad for asking those kinds of prompts. Not all the time, and not the kind of people you would talk to on the internet/CAG, but I've literally had people yell at me in frustration because I was "trying to push something they didn't want on them" and leave without buying what they brought to the counter. Another thing is that, if they're like me, they don't have the option of not asking you. It's part of the job, and a lot of customers know it. So if a customer knows that and just decides he/she can be a jerk about it... It's completely different from an employee who's about to lose his job. Sure, it doesn't give him/her the right to be jerks to customers who call and ask- I mean, if someone asked, I would tell them the way it was. Just keep in mind the most polite way to ask is to not ask at all.

If it came of as being a jerk, sorry. But look at the information posted. there isn't any. LAst time they did this it took a few days for the stores to know if they are closing or not. Hence the comment, wait a few days and save yourself some time.

And yes, my post was also about being human to the person on the phone. Just like the internet it's pretty easy to be rude to the person you don't have to see.
 
Well, I visited 2 local GC's today here in Vegas (Valle Verde and Sahara & Maryland); both had shipped off the most recent released 'NEW' titles (for PS3/360/Wii) along with consoles/handhelds. One employee said to expect a sale for the remainder in the coming week(s)?

I suggest those whom still have a good amount of credit left to venture on to their local GC's a.s.a.p. and try and seek out the good titles that are left. I managed to get Dragon Age: Origins used w/ DLC unused, ACII used, Darksiders used. I just wanted to snatch these up considering I had a good size of credit to my name.

I do feel for those employee's whom are affected by this and I hope for the best to come through these times. Please do not be assholes (Not accusing anyone of being one) seriously, towards employees at this time in a situation like this people. Be respectful at least and well-mannered no matter the mood an employee may be in (Frustrated etc.) and just remember what they're going through.
 
Clearance sales begin Thursday morning. No details on the % off, no details on when it will run to. Will know more tomorrow, there's a company wide conference call in the morning.

The stores that are closing have received a memo saying to discontinue MVPs, don't sell gameguards or warranties, and discontinue all trades, both cash and credit wise.

To those that have stores remaining open - Call of Duty MW2 and Darksiders will be on sale for $44.99 next week.
