The list of closing GC stores here:

Welcome! I've got a FAQ-in-progress on the second post, so go ahead and read through that and hopefully it answers whatever questions you may have about Game Crazy's trade-ins. You can also find a list of guides that you can buy for $0.01 (yes, a penny) at Game Crazy (thanks to IAmTheCheapestGamer).

Anyway, I'm pretty much going to do the same work JP is doing. Post your TiVs from Game Crazy here and I'll update. Simple.

I'll also be posting GC's latest promotions, offers, and price drops (if Scorch posts any new drops, then they'll be added here) Thanks, Scorch!

*DISCLAIMER* These prices and dates are supplied by the CAG community, and as such there aren't always regular updates on every title. The dates at the edge of each game give an idea of when it last received that amount. If the quote is older than 3 days, the likelihood is that the value went down. Not always the case but something to keep in mind. These values are always just a way to give an idea of what to expect, not actual returns. There is no guarantee involved that these prices are 100% accurate.

Ya, this is simular to what some big conglomerates do. They sell off profitable parts of the company to have the funds to support the unprofitable "core" business. And of course they end up going bankrupt.

MG/HWV has the typical unimaginative leadership. Since they're a rental business, damn-it, they going to stay a rental business. Never thinking to change their business model to change with the times. They should have had stand alone Game Crazy's several years ago. And they should have moderenized their POS system and enabled online sales. You can bet that a year or two from now, there will be another purge as large as this, if not an outright going out of business.
Dam it, I just became a member of their gamer club and was wondering can I get my $10 back since the stores by me are closing?

MVP will work at any Game Crazy, so it's still good at the stores that are open. I'm willing to wager that it saved you some money when you bought it, so count your losses that you "lost" less than $10 and be happy.

Sorry that was snippy of me, but I'm super-stressed right now and I haven't gotten nearly enough sleep all week. :(

I totally agree with some of this, and it makes sense, but I can tell you there is some speculation that some better things are being planned.

Honestly I see them as closing down all the mediocre stores, firing all the un-needed employees, then taking all the saved/made money to open new stand-alone GC's in the future. I mean they spent millions of dollars recently desiging these new stand-alone stores, and did open a bunch of them across the country recently. So I think they are really just cutting the fat right now. I know it sounds like corporate stupidity, but I honeslty think they are changing - just not is the subtle way that we'd all like to see.

More of a huge cut now, rather than spanning it over the reast of the year. We'll see how it plays out.

While you're probably speculating, there could be some truth to that.

Of the many GC's closing in my area, there are only 2 surviving. I know for fact that one of them is a stand-alone GC because I've gone to that one; the other one I don't know about though. It could be a coincidence but at least from what I see, all the ones that are attached to a HWV are closing.

I think this GC closing was much worse since they didnt even tell the employees until 2 days ago, and then they were told to start preparing to close down and ship everything out by saturday. At most theyll have one more month. At least with the CC thing, we saw it coming for a long time, especially since the company actually filed for bankruptcy. By the time it actually happened, it was more of a, yeah, it was bound to happen. Were people outraged? Yeah, but to be fair, most of the CC people who worked there saw it coming anyways, so thats the biggest difference too. GC employees like Joe and Scorch, it just kind of creeped up on them. *Sadface*

Spot on.

The outrage seems to be coming from people worrying that their store credit became worthless overnight. I had over $100 to spend and I made damn sure I wasn't going to use it on some 3 year old sports title or some crap shovelware game.

If the store closings were announced sooner than the day before or day of a store packing up it's "better" stuff, there'd be much less outrage.

CC is different because there was speculation of them closing for months before they even filed for bankruptcy. Once it happened, people still had plenty of time to unload any CC giftcards they may have had.

WOW! Gamecrazy is seriously out of business? There's three or four, possibly five Gamestops near my home like 2 in only 2-4 miles up to 10 miles. One Gamecrazy - only a BLOCK away, and now it's closing down? =/ There goes my gaming, I will have to drive extra miles to Gamestop. For Gamecrazy, I don't have to use the car, I would just walk! =D

Well not out of business, more like "downsizing"

So I drove by the store closest to my house and it was a ghost town. there were just signs on the windows that said it closed on 9/26. It was sad. I am sorry for all the people that are now out of jobs. I am still surprised that the one I used to work at (forest park, OH) is staying open that place was horrible the one that closed near me always was the top selling store in the Cincinnati area.

Game Crazy, 7341 Tylers Corner Pl West Chester, OH 45069-6327, is CLOSED no clearance just closed.

I am in the same boat. Was talked into extending my card on Monday and now find they are closing yesterday. The guy was not aware but that doesn't help the fact that any money I might save buying stuff will be spent on the gas it will take to travel to other open stores. I was on the phone 50 minutes this am waiting to talk to someone. The automated said it was a 10 minute wait when I started, and I finally just hung up. It is only $10 but I think it is a joke that the stores aren't allowed to do something to deal with this.

Sorry to all that are losing their jobs.

What strikes me as odd is the timing of the closings. I would imagine that historically, the 4th quarter is where Game Crazy posts its biggest profits. Why not close after the holidays, especially with games like Modern Warfare 2 coming up?

I agree too, the fact that all the good stuff was shipped back almost instantly was BS. They clearly intended to strand everyones credit on gift cards. I suspect they hope that those ppl with credit will just blow it on clearance crap. I feel fortunate that I managed to buy a wii the day the closings were announced, even though I suspect I will take a hefty loss trying to sell it. Lets face it, they could have kept all the good items in store but not clearance'd, for the first couple of weeks. But like jackasses they have shipped it all out. Ironically I suspect they would have sold a lot of newer games to ppl coming into the stores looking for deals, that same transferred stock will just become forgotten stock at other stores.

I think GC is about to file for bankruptcy again, they must have had problems getting stock for xmas on credit and figured that the cash a clearance would generate would fund the profitable xmas period. It's like the chain of toy stores KBToys that closed last year, without credit they were forced to pay for everything up front, which ultimately destroyed the entire chain.

I have like $7 in store credit, can I just get cash for it? Seeing as how California law says gift cards under $10 can be redeemed for cash.
If you state has high sales tax.
Warning, Store credits transferred to GiftCard- you will be charged sales tax when using Gift Card.
There is no tax charged if you are using the store credit to buy Used Games.
Example - Buy Used Batman with MVP for $44.99 reduces $44.99 from your store credit.
If you transfer your store credit into Gift Card and then buy a Used Batman, you will be charged tax.
Example - Buy Used Batman with MVP for $44.99 reduces $44.99 plus tax from your Gift Card. NJ is 7% so $48.14 is reduced.

So if you have a lot of credit and a high tax rate....start using it before the good inventory is all done.
Crap, I wish I had know this before I put 200$ on a gift card, this information combined with the pick up at HWV would have least of ensured I left some preorders in the system. I'm hoping that I can find some easy flips to GS and Amazon as a final hurrah, but paying tax on all my purchases now makes everything more difficult. All my fucking hardwork has been washed down the drain in a matter of days. fuck I'll be lucky if I get 60% of the credits original value when this is all over.

Just got back from my local store and the manager confirmed that all 3 Tucson stores are closing. It looks like that pretty much all the stores that are closing are the ones sharing space with Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery stores and that the opinion is that a lot of these video stores will be closing in the coming months. Game Crazy seems to be cutting their losses early and getting away from the failed DVD stores. Thats just the opinion from one of the managers I spoke to and the other employees. They are all pretty upset over the whole deal. And yes they are shipping out all consoles, accessories (new controllers etc.), and newer games (used and new) to the stores that are staying open and getting in a lot of old overstock new and used games that the other stores can't sell to sell as part of the closing clearance sales.

An interesting thought on why close stores now. Otherwise they might not have had enough money to have what people want for the holidays. And the more I think about it, the screwing people with credit over was part of the equation. $200 in credit with only a MG/HWV to spend it in is pretty crappy.
I have like $7 in store credit, can I just get cash for it? Seeing as how California law says gift cards under $10 can be redeemed for cash.
Well the problem with that theory is gift card and store credit issue now. I ran into that problem once when I used to work at Best Buy, and my manager told me we were not allowed to cash out store credit under $10 for cash, and the law only applies to gift cards. So not sure how this works with GC and places like GS. But thats how it was at Best Buy since theres a big difference.
Wow this blows. We have FIVE Gamestops in my town and 1 Gamecrazy. Of course the Gamecrazy is closing down. Ugh!
In Vancouver, WA? There were at least 4 Gamecrazy locations, last I checked.
I know this is a big deal and it sucks for those losing their jobs/losing a local store, but can we make a separate thread for the store closings? This thread is crowded with closing posts already and it's definitely going to get worse once the actual closeouts start. I'm sure it would be fine to keep the discussion in the deals forum, I just think it would be better to keep this thread focused on the Gamecrazy talk related to stores that are still open.
I agree with you. And it's gotta be a pain for the OP of this thread to sift through so many comments looking for those with TIV's.
Sorry, but none of what you said makes sense. The liquidation is going to go on for a month. That's 30 days worth of posts that are mostly unnecessary for people who still have an open Gamecrazy. You're right that the closing stores are still going to be selling stuff, but they won't be selling everything. People will undoubtedly be posting their finds from what's leftover at their GC. Now why should everyone have to sift through 30 posts of finds to see if someone mentioned a decent flip at GC? If a separate thread was created, it would obviously only be temporary and anyone interested in the closings could follow that and this thread could go back to it's semi-regular posting schedule.
You're right. This is gonna go on for another month. It should have its own thread.
Instead of talking about making a separate thread, why don't you just actually make a separate thread if you think it is so necessary to have one? Just click on new thread button and make one. It's obvious the op didn't feel the need that there needs to be a separate one, but if you feel the need that there should be a separate one, then make it. And if the mods delete, then that means they don't think its a good idea either. If they don't delete, you got what you wanted, and we can all move on with our lives. :bouncy:
I think he is just trying to ask before starting a thread so that people know and will utilize it.
Wow, you're super smart! Actually, I was considering making the thread myself, and I very well may. But I thought it would be best to put the idea out there so everyone could first understand what the issue is and then we could act on it. See, I was thinking that perhaps someone who had more interest/knowledge on the closings would prefer to tackle the thread before I made it. Plus, it would make more sense for the OP of this thread to change the title back to the general Gamecrazy thread before someone goes off making duplicate looking threads. There's no need to be a rogue poster when you can present the idea in this manner first.

Of course, I'm sure you thought of all this before.
Maybe its some kind of a magic Gift Card that exempts itself from state taxes. I gotta get me one of those.

From what I can find about these closings, most of the stores will have barely anything left to buy come the time the sales begin. It seems GC is not only shipping out new games, but a lot of other stock as well (used games, guides, etc.).

Local store already close and I got like $70 worth of credit there. another store had no idea how to transfer. Call the support number and I was put on hold for an hour

Yes, I called two of my local Gamecrazy's just to see if they had certain guides available. I have been wanting to get Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for a while now, and one GC had it on Monday; and they said they got rid of every single guide they had. Kind of a bummer. Oh well, I will still try to pick up Soul Calibur IV - LE on Sat.

Not true.

Gift cards will be charged tax, yes, but store credit is NOT charged tax at either GameStop or Game Crazy.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Are you saying that you'll be charged tax when you purchase a gift card with store credit? Or that you won't be charged tax when purchasing any item with store credit?

Either way, neither of those hold true in California. It could be an issue that varies by state, but I'd be surprised if it were (save for getting charged tax on a gift card).

Edit: looked it up and it seems that this was the case in the past for certain Gamestops, but the practice apparently ended over a year ago. Whether Gamecrazy still does it or not probably varies by state. But, like I said, it's definitely not the case in California.

From a customer and employee standpoint, I'm so stressed out by this company. This week has been hell and I cannot wait for it to end.

Just looked at an old receipt and I was taxed on store credit at GC to confirm that both GC & GS tax on store credit varies by state.

I second that, I just love how unorganized corporate has been by not clearing every little detail about everything, so when a customer asks me about something important that should be answered then, all I can do is shrug my shoulders and be like I dunno and then get chewed out for it by them. THANKS SHERIF MITYAS! After the 25th I don't ever plan on stepping into a Movie Gallery/Hollywood Video ever again.

First off, they're closing stores, not going out of business. The stores that are closing are sending all the good items (consoles, recent releases, accessories) to the stores that are staying open.

Secondly, do you honestly think that a PSP Go would make it to 80% off even if it were clearanced? The thing is so damn new, people would be buying it at 5% off.

You've got some wishful thinking!

The Game Crazy in Jersey City, NJ closed like 3 weeks ago. I went there the day after they closed, unaware, and became rather irate.

What kind of rage quit answer is that? So you're saying you can't respond to hypothetical if questions? Major Morgan was just providing common sense to Lakers' joke. His comments were only harsh at the end. And it isn't as negative as some other posts in the thread. Quite frankly, Major Morgan has contributed this to thread more than others. So I can't see why you're calling him a troll.

Back to the topic at hand, I visited a few more stores today. And they were almost finished boxing their transfers of anything valuable. The walls were picked clean. Just like what others have already said, don't expect anything great this saturday. you'll probably find stuff that you wouldn't want in the first place or years' old stuff.

Fine. I took off the troll bit. I dont think it was a rage quit answer ( he didnt ask a question so I dont get how it could be an answer in the first place). I still think his comment was said without properly reading the original statement.

If the walls are picked clean before saturday its due to employee holds. I went to a gamecrazy near me today that was still well stocked and even had PS3 systems still.

Now Im gonna ask a question.

If a store has not shipped out product but is on the closing list, will that product be sold at the discounted rate?

It's 100 miles from you..why even bother? :p
The store is only like 15-20 miles away from me.however it is the only location by me within 100 miles. Sorry if that wasnt clear.

Anyways, yah its sad people lose their jobs, but c'mon businesses close all the time. Blockbusters are closing, many Hollywood Video stores have closed, and all Circuit Citys have closed.all within a 2 year span. Job security is hard to come by these days. You should never think of a job being permanent.

And yes, I take advantage of these closings. Got some great deals from some closing Hollywood Videos by me. Now theres only one left by me and that one happens to have a GameCrazy attached to it.
Now Im gonna ask a question.

If a store has not shipped out product but is on the closing list, will that product be sold at the discounted rate?
you'll find out saturday. hah.

but seriously, has the store finished doing transfers? they still have a day left to do transfer before the unofficial sale date starts. i suspect its going to be hard to get it because some employees will hide stuff for themsevles.

ive seen a store with ps3, 360, wiii but they looked like the display models. didn't ask if they had new ones in the back because everything was gone.
