The list of closing GC stores here:

Welcome! I've got a FAQ-in-progress on the second post, so go ahead and read through that and hopefully it answers whatever questions you may have about Game Crazy's trade-ins. You can also find a list of guides that you can buy for $0.01 (yes, a penny) at Game Crazy (thanks to IAmTheCheapestGamer).

Anyway, I'm pretty much going to do the same work JP is doing. Post your TiVs from Game Crazy here and I'll update. Simple.

I'll also be posting GC's latest promotions, offers, and price drops (if Scorch posts any new drops, then they'll be added here) Thanks, Scorch!

*DISCLAIMER* These prices and dates are supplied by the CAG community, and as such there aren't always regular updates on every title. The dates at the edge of each game give an idea of when it last received that amount. If the quote is older than 3 days, the likelihood is that the value went down. Not always the case but something to keep in mind. These values are always just a way to give an idea of what to expect, not actual returns. There is no guarantee involved that these prices are 100% accurate.
holy hell i don't know how many times I have to CONFIRM THIS. YES. Nearly ALL product over $18.99 is going to stores that aren't closing. There MIGHT be some deals to be had, but I seriously doubt it. I seriously spent the past three days shipping shit out ALL DAY. I shipped out over two thousand items. I'm pooped.
I haven't been able to keep up with the thread there's so many fucking posts. I thought you had said that before but I wasn't sure.

You can be sure by looking at Scorch's posts (try his profile and click on posts). I am as tired of reading them over again as he is posting them. I've seen first hand how much work has been done at these closing stores. It's no wonder the sale is not starting until Monday. That was too much to ask to get done in a few days. They are still packing and will probably be getting more lists to pull.

Just visit a store, you're sure to get all the info you need and more (plenty more trust me). You might even get something more out of it. I picked up a pennied Harvest Moon Tree of Tranquility guide from the 4 titles left after the rest were shipped out as well as a Persona 3 guide (not pennied).

Sorry if I am snippy, but this is a big deal and there are bound to be a lot of posts about it. The thread will survive as long as the brand does.

EDIT: I can somwhat agree with you about all the postings about which stores are closing. I don't see how everyone would care about my locals. I kept those posts to my regional thread.

Do this. You can filter out the employee's posts, and you can search the thread. Both are preferable to asking the same questions over and over.

More importantly, don't piss off the people who are still trying to help the community while they're losing their jobs.

Lazy fucks.

Some info that I've gotten from managers at GC and Hollywood (used to be a SM myself, so I get info sometimes).

This is probably just the first wave of closings that is coming down. I've heard through a few different people now that they are only going to keep about 200 GC stores, and try rebuilding the brand from there.

Every GC that opens from here on out should be stand alone, like game Stops.

If that's true, that would make a lot of sense - I can't imagine Hollywood Video is doing very well right now. I'm a little curious why they would wait to do another wave of closings, but the timing of THIS wave of closings still strikes me as odd (doing it right before the holiday rush doesn't make much sense).

The real question is whether or not they survive long enough to rebuild the brand. I'm beginning to think they might not, but I would love to be proven wrong.

In the springfield mass stores, the Boston Rd location is closing and the Liberty St location is staying(called them earlier this evening). The closing store has already shipped consoles/controllers to those staying open. The claim is their liquidation starts on Monday-anyone else in Western Mass confirm?

All the employees I have talked to have echoed the same. The Game Crazy brand should have been given more autonomy a long time ago. I agree completely. That's why I own Netflix stock;).

stopped by my local Game Crazy this afternoon... the manager told me "all stores in the Wash DC metro area, except the Forestville MD store, are closing..."

the stores closing include:

3925 JEFFERSON DAVIS HWY, ALEXANDRIA, VA 22305
6546 LITTLE RIVER TPKE, ALEXANDRIA, VA 22312
11915 GEORGIA AVE, WHEATON, MD 20902

Another case of corporate screwing over those below them.

Good news/Bad news time...

Good news! The Vallejo, CA store is staying open!
Bad news! All the people who work there are some of the worst game crazy employee's that i've met, and the manager is a complete douche.

Good news! They had a bunch of used games for PS2/GameCube/Xbox/GBA.
Bad News! They are all being shipped to the stores that are going out of buisness, because the GC in Vallejo is only going to carry games (and etc.) for current generation consoles and handhelds!

The manager of the store told me this. And, when I asked him about Joystiq claiming that all the stores will be closed by November, he said that they were, "Never closing EVER." His exact words.
not to impose but is there anyway to tell if my location or any other houston locations are closing?

I passed by the store today at 5003 Hwy 6 N and they were closing. Their sale also starts Monday, but the inventory was so low, I doubt I'll go back.
I haven't been able to keep up with the thread there's so many fucking posts. I thought you had said that before but I wasn't sure.
..it's in the main post..

Visited the store near where I live (Garden Grove, CA). They barely have anything left on the shelves. Mostly games that are 2 years old, and games for old generation consoles. Won't be coming back when the sale starts on Monday.

Talk to an associate, and everyone (at this store at least) been promised a job at a Movie Gallery. Said that they had a goal to reach by a certain date, and obviously fell short. Went on to say its our location and lack of GameCrazy advertisement as the downfall.

Just found out they are closing the only GC here that is within 45 miles in any direction. Its a shame. I kind of hated them, but its nice having the option. Now, its literally a 60 to 80 minute drive to a GC if I wanted to go to one.

I'm probably going to go look @ the Concord store on Monday, between my 2 Job interviews... not expecting anything great... but, who knows.

Is that Concord, NC? If so, I was there earlier today...30 minute drive for me I was in concord so decided to check it out. There wasnt much at all on the shelves and like some of the previous posters said, it was mostly all old games. I did notice a FF12 collectors edition for ps2 for like 12 bucks, so that might not be a bad deal with the 30 percent off.

I didn't say anything about you. If I had, I would've quoted your post. :whistle2:s

People are asking the same questions over and over, and are pissing off the Game Crazy employees who are already dealing with the stress of their stores shutting down. They're trying to help us by giving us information, and yet some people insist on wasting their time by making them answer the same questions over and over again, when they could use the forum's search tools. If that doesn't work, Firefox, IE, and pretty much every browser known to mankind have really nice "Find" commands built in.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to single you out. For what it's worth, though, you're not exempt from that - by my count (by searching the thread for "$18.99" sans quotes), your question has been answered four times by Scorch (including once on the same page you asked your question, or at least in my forum view), quoted ad nauseum by other posters, AND is in the first post. That said, you're not the only one doing this, and you won't be the last.

When the employees begin responding to people like this...

...isn't that a sign that you guys might be taking a toll on them?

I know some of you don't care, but for them this isn't a sale - this is the loss of a job. That's a hell of a lot more important than 30% off old, crappy games that they couldn't sell at the other stores.

I am very sad to see my store, the one I ran for a while, going. I knew it was coming eventually and that's why I decided to quit, but it's still sad to see it going.

I'm also sad to see that they are screwing over some of my best/favorite employees.

a guy who has been with the store/company (former hollywood shift lead) for like 6 years is NOT getting transferred, a guy who I hired and is a great employee and has been with the company for a year is NOT getting transferred, but a guy who was just hired a week ago is being transferred to a hollywood with a game zone.

Also, losing out on the pre-orders that I have had in the system for the past who knows how many months is quite annoying, but whatever.... thanks for amazon i guess.

Also, a guy who has been an RVP for for ever has been demoted to a District Manager, and I thought this guy was a great motivator.

My HW and GC District Managers have now split the district being in charge of both brands now, however it looks like they are trying to push out the HW DM because they gave him almost all of the struggling stores left (HW and GC) while the GC DM who was a huge ass and a horrible manager (ruled through fear, only visited stores with his favorite SM's and visited the others once ever 7 months or so just to ream them out) got the stores that are in better areas and more profitable.

As far as Inland Empire stores go, they are all closing cept the Moreno Valley, Riverside (the one on Limonite), Hemet and Perris stores. There might be one or two more survivors but that's about it. Thank god mine survived the ax. The big liquidation store for all of Inland Empire is the one in Colton i had heard, that's where i shipped my 2,000k items to. I'm really sorry for all the fellow CGer's who lost their jobs, as much as Corp wants to say it's doing this to "focus its efforts" and such, basically they've fucked up badly. Sorry again guys, I really wish you the best of luck.

PS: I had heard pretty much all of LA County and Orange County is closing, although this might not be true.

Actually it's Concord, CA... I had no idea it existed (the store, not the town) before yesterday. It's in a part of the town i've never even been to. The mall where i'm interviewing is almost 5 miles away. And, the BART which i'm taking to my second interview is inbetween the two of them. So, I figured that after my Mall interview, since I have several hours to kill. I might walk to BART, get my pass, and then walk to Game Crazy, and possibly to the Fry's in Concord, and see what I can find. But, it all depends on how long my interview goes.

well apparently the employee of that branch wasn't very profitable and therefore not that great.

its a business its about the bottomline.. if you're not generating a profit you are expendable.

9 out of 15 are closing.

Sable
Tower
Arapahoe

Are all closing for sure.

West Florida is staying open, and possibly 88th & Wads.

That's all I know for certain.
Just updating:

I swung by the HWV/GC on South Kipling earlier, and they had the GC entrance blocked, and seemed to have a lot of empty spaces on their shelves. I'd take that as a sign that they're one of the closing stores. (I didn't go in and ask because they don't need random idiots like me reminding them every few minutes if they're going to be out of work soon.)

And the Joystiq article seems to indicate that 4 in Colorado Springs are also closing. That's 8 of the reported 9.
what about older consoles they still have any of those?
I went to the Alexandria, VA store over in Potomac Yard and they didnt have any consoles left. She said some of it was shipped out, but a lot of the older systems (like the GBA SP I was looking for) went on sale a week or so ago and they just sold out.

Also, to anyone in the area, that location is not starting their sale until Monday. They actually had some decent titles left. Im planning on going in on Wednesday, to pick up some titles like TR: Anniversary, GrimGrimoire and Eternal Poison.

No. "Profitable" and "great" are not the same thing. Scorch's store was apparently not profitable enough, but he absolutely qualifies as a great employee.

If they have something you want, I'd strongly suggest going in on Monday. Especially because you just told CAG what store you're going to and what titles they still have in stock. I guarantee you, you won't be the only one reading this thread that wants those three games.

I mean, the information is appreciated, but you're just shooting yourself in the foot if you tell other people about the specific titles you were planning to buy days before you actually go back.
No. "Profitable" and "great" are not the same thing. Scorch's store was apparently not profitable enough, but he absolutely qualifies as a great employee.
I think he may have referring more to how corporate looks at the stores. In which that case, unfortunately the word "great" does not exist for them. "Profitable", god, those money grabbing bastards would be all over that. But it just sucks that in the economy today, stores that offer great customer service compared to stores that generate huge profits, are always second to last nowadays. What a shame. Not saying every GC was full of great employees, I know mine weren't (which is probably why mine is closing). But its the stores that have Scorch and GC Joe that are closing down that makes it a crapshoot. Corporate bastards.

You said it right after I posted so what am I supposed to think.

It's not in the OP because the OP says something differently. It says stores that aren't closing are shipping $18.99 and lower games to the stores starting liquidation. That is different from liquidating stores shipping $18.99 and over to non closing stores. Just because non closing stores are sending $18.99 & under doesn't mean closing would be sending $18.99 & over.

I am not someone who comes into threads like others (mostly casual CAGs) who just ask questions without any regard for those who have answers.

Yes, I should've used the search tool but I wasn't even sure it had been said.

I don't know how it could show that he made a comment about it on the same page as I did on your browser, on my browser it is 2 pages before my post and it is about the $18.99 & under being shipped to stores starting liquidation, not $18.99 & over being sent to non-closing stores.

Just now saw this thread. Well, virtually every GC store I've ever been to is being closed. The four Colorado stores are all in the Springs.

I'll have to hit them up while I still can to see if there's anything I want, but I am extremely disappointed in this news in general.

I checked out the GC on Hampton Rd, Dallas TX since I was in the area at the time..

Don't waste your time, the hoarders have literally picked the store bare, apart from a few 360/PS3 sports titles (NBA 07, Madden's, NHL) some older PS2 titles and a 6 for $20 on Xbox games - there is nothing. Pity..

Thanks for the tip. I work pretty close to there so I may stop by to dig through the cheap PS2 and GC dregs. (And no, I don't intend to hunt down the games you mentioned...)

BTW, I was there the week the $9.99 console sale was announced. The guy working said they hadn't carried any qualifying models for months.

I live in the Springs, I went to the CG up north in Briargate the other day, they basicly sent everything good off. There is nothing at that store even worth anything. I'm kinda pissed that every CG in CO Spgs is closing. The only one staying open around here is the CG way down in Fountain.

There are some "decent" games left. We finished our first pull last night.

We do have another one to do, but that doesn't have to be done til tuesday and its only 2 pages.

Yes, I'm sure it was the hoarders and absolutely not the store shipping off games.
