The list of closing GC stores here:

Welcome! I've got a FAQ-in-progress on the second post, so go ahead and read through that and hopefully it answers whatever questions you may have about Game Crazy's trade-ins. You can also find a list of guides that you can buy for $0.01 (yes, a penny) at Game Crazy (thanks to IAmTheCheapestGamer).

Anyway, I'm pretty much going to do the same work JP is doing. Post your TiVs from Game Crazy here and I'll update. Simple.

I'll also be posting GC's latest promotions, offers, and price drops (if Scorch posts any new drops, then they'll be added here) Thanks, Scorch!

*DISCLAIMER* These prices and dates are supplied by the CAG community, and as such there aren't always regular updates on every title. The dates at the edge of each game give an idea of when it last received that amount. If the quote is older than 3 days, the likelihood is that the value went down. Not always the case but something to keep in mind. These values are always just a way to give an idea of what to expect, not actual returns. There is no guarantee involved that these prices are 100% accurate.
Thanks for the tip. I work pretty close to there so I may stop by to dig through the cheap PS2 and GC dregs. (And no, I don't intend to hunt down the games you mentioned...)

BTW, I was there the week the $9.99 console sale was announced. The guy working said they hadn't carried any qualifying models for months.
Its fine if you do, the last thing I need is more games...which is why I am fine with letting fellow CAGs know what some of the remaining stock looks like.

It looked as though the majority of the PS2 and Xbox titles were there. All the current gen stock looked to be down to about 25% of normal. Good luck finding something, if you can, report back if you pick up anything.

Is Alexandria store closing?
Then are there any stores near this area?

Thanks for confirming that they're starting the markdowns. I'm headed there tomorrow.... even though it doesn't sound that promising.

can anyone confirm that gamecrazy gift cards can be used at hollywood video?? or if dont find anything im stuck with a piece of plastic that is worth nothing even though it has 125 or so trade credit on it

Confirmed. I used a GC GC at HWV yesterday.

Edit: I should probably mention that the clerk looked over both sides of it a couple of times and then asked me if it was a gift card, but it did work just fine.

Note to you guys, the customers: Please lay off the comments to the employees at these Game Crazy that are shutting down.

I had about enough of night after night with rude customers complaining about their preorders and store credit and even the MVPs and Service Contracts. We employees are the same as the customers, we are clueless as to what corporate wants and we are pissed as you all but we don't need our butts ripped for what they did, heck we are losing our jobs here for christ sakes.

So when your in there, please be a lil kinder and give the trash talking to the CEO by calling corporate and speaking your mind.

This needs to be a message in the OP. Third'd. When I go tomorrow, I'm going to show the upmost respect for whoever's working when I get there. And there's no excuse for everyone else not to.

This. I've had nothing but rude customers. They usually calm down when I mention the fact that I'm not the one to blame, and they're like "well, I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the situation!".. there's just really no excuse for rudeness. Rudeness never gets you anywhere. It's the nice ones that I go out of my way to help.

Also, I'm sick of the "I've done business with you guys for years!" excuse I get from customers. BFD. I have as well and I'm potentially losing my job, so shut up.

You are so right about customers not being rude. But the big problem is that everybody is getting screwed but the executives who made this decision. And they don't have to face the music. So you end up having angry customers complaining to hurt employees. Meanwhile the real people who deserve the hate go on with their lives not caring about who they screwed over.
Meanwhile the real people who deserve the hate go on with their lives not caring about who they screwed over.
who are you talking about when you say this? If you want to get the reason the store is shutting down, it could partially because of you, not supplying the store with enough business. Bottom line gamecrazy's organization structure is horrible. They need to develop an online ordering system and have the same operations nationwide.
who are you talking about when you say this? If you want to get the reason the store is shutting down, it could partially because of you, not supplying the store with enough business.
What are you talking about? Consumers don't owe anyone their business. It's up to the retailer to earn it. So no, I and no other consumer is responsible for these stores closing. This company has earned it's problems by retaining bad management.

Bottom line gamecrazy's organization structure is horrible. They need to develop an online ordering system and have the same operations nationwide.

I fully agree with you on this. I have complained about GC not having online sales for years. And having promotions totally dependent on the store/district manager is pathetic. A chain-wide sale should be chain-wide and not depend on how motivated the local store/district manager is. I can't tell you how many times I've walked into two different GC stores and seeing that those stores are running two different promos.

ethics&values?? thought this was economics 101?

anyways I think the gamecrazy near me opens today at 10am, called them last night and asked about the sale, he said it starts monday, and most of their games have been shipped to another location which has been the standard. Going to see if I can find any games that I wouldn't mind playing.

Blame the Executives.. yeah.. sure.. with the way Movie Gallery/HWV is bleeding money they won't have jobs soon.

They are a dying industry, no matter what they do, and GC is attached to them so they are screwed as well. I'm honestly surprised they are still around at this point even.

It sucks for the employees working there, but I'd get off that horse as soon as I could anyhow...

Thanks to everyone for the comments earlier.

Back to deals
Liquidation starts today at 12pm in Elizabethtown at 30% for the next two weeks, not much to go by but you might find some gems inside the chaos.

I'm not going to lie, I find it ridiculous that corporate has yet to release an OFFICIAL listing of the stores officially closing.

Well, if it saves anyone a trip ... the GC in Reston, VA is just plain CLOSED. The Hollywood Video attached to it was also shut down and the whole building was empty. A sign on the door said closed since 9/27.

Hahah, good call. I was actually thinking about stopping out there later in the week.

Going to try and swing by Centreville's and see what's up. I'll report back.

Wait...
You just want all the deals for yourself! Yes... if no one else is there, you could make it to the 80% off sale before any of us realized they were open all along...

I had the worst experience with a GC employee over the phone two days ago. Either he couldn't speak english and understand what I was saying or he was being a first class douche when I was trying to ask him a simple question.

This was how our conversation went:
"Hey do you guys sell batteries for the PSP slim?"
"Huh?"
"I'm looking for a battery for the PSP..."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, do you carry them?"
"Yeah."
"Oh cool... how much are they?"
"No."
"Wait... do you carry them?"
"Yeah........ no."
"Uhh... so do you carry them or not?"
"No."
"What??"
"Yeah. Ok. No."
"Wow.. thanks for nothing."

Seriously... WTF was up with that douche?

Just cause I am bored at work and everything interesting is blocked...

What are the odds of me being able to find an XBox "Duke" controller at a Game Crazy? Would those have been shipped out already?

Playing a bunch of racing games recently really got me missing those long travel triggers for brake and gas controls.

I thought that was really funny. XP Anyway, he COULD have been implying that they carried it, and maybe even had one in the store, but he couldn't give you a price because it was in a box ready to ship out because he is about to LOSE HIS JOB. Another possibility is that he was too pre-occupied thinking about how he was LOSING HIS JOB, he couldn't think straight. And another possibility is that he's pissed off at corporate for closing so many of their stores with such short notice, he's getting back at corporate by providing shitty customer service so they don't get much more business out of his store. Oh yeah, because he's LOSING HIS JOB.

It's one thing to be worried and preoccupied about losing his job, but as of now he is still employed and shouldn't randomly act like a jerk because of it.

You might be right, but I get this sometimes from stores that staying open. Sometimes, there are jerks or lazy people working there.
Liquidation stores have different hours.. I think they open at 11 or Noon.
From what I understand and from the memos from corporate, Liquidation stores hours are from 12-8. There are some decent games left in my store. However, I was reading the fine print, and the banners and everything state that the liquidation discount is on GAMES, not accessories or anything else. I don't know how this is going to pan out, but we'll see. Also, our liquidation is going to be 30% off for the first 2 weeks, and then supposedly 80% off the last week. They took the 50% off away. Like I said earlier, Game Crazy is a sinking ship. I would be willing to bed that all of the stores will be closing within the next year or so. And yes, us employees did stash some of the "good stuff" for ourselves. Wouldn't you if you were in out situation?

Crap, no kidding, accessories are not included. That seems hard to believe as my store on Sunday had plenty of used accessories. This whole process just seems like a panic situation. I heard a rumor that the vacated GC spaces in HWV stores may be converted into adult entertainment.

Doesn't GC management know that porn is now free on the internet :)

Anyone who doesn't unload their credit ASAP is just asking to loose it all. Maybe I'll preorder a COD5 prestige edition from 1 of the remaining GC's just to blow my remaining credit.

location in cincy still has some good games....cod4, gears of war 2, gta4 was tempted to pick it up at like $10 but not into as much. Cod4 was at $25 not bad, but just turned my old one in, bored of it and only a month till new one. There were a few other good 360 games.
PS3 games were good as well, prototype, gta4, killzone2, madden 10, not all games have been shipped out of this location. Good selections still but 30% is okay not the best,

I just checked out my GC and they are still unloading all of the junk that no other store could sell. When I was there they even pulled a Gameboy Sp that was new. I asked about the price and he looked it up it was still 79.99.

my local gc said that the sale won't start until maybe the end of the week. supposedly corporate hasn't given them the final confirmation for the sale yet. Only decent titles I saw were mass effect, burnout paradise both for 360 and folklore on the ps3.

So has anyone actually bought anything yet, it's getting close to 12 on the West coast, and I'm trying to decide if I should put my target clearance shopping aside and try and hit up GC instead.

i also was wondering this. except i'm on the east coast. but still.

I just got back from GC in North Colorado Springs(briargate). They still have a kick ass selection left, I was very shocked to see that. I picked up a few games, nothing special really. They do have a nice selection at that store though. I was also talking to a guy in there that had been to the GC at Dublin and the other one at La Salle(sp?). He said the selection at those 2 stores sucked and they were already picked dry. I dont know about the powers location, they may have some good stuff still.

I'm mad the gamecrazy told me they won't close anytime soon three weeks ago, and now I see 10 of them have closed with the hollywood video!

What am I suppose to do with these lame giftcards, and store credit if there's no stores left!

I will complain to the state attorney! This is bullsh*t!

I want my money back!

I will try to go one gamecrazy that might be still open and buy 2 new ps3 games, and empty my giftcards.

I'm so pissed off! I should taken the cash option!

Came back from the one in Houston on HWY 6 S.
They had a pretty good selection.
It was mostly last gen stuff, but I found some good titles.
I picked up Shenmue II, Otogi, Outrun 2 and Elebits.

Yes, yes! I've answered this a few times in this thread myself, but I realize it's been buried. But anyway, I've been doing this for months. You can trade at both places (GC and regular HWV that is), get the credit on the same gift card, and spend it at both places. Confirmed and verified! I just bought a PS3 Star Wars Force Unleashed (using the $5 off sale at HWV) for $10 using my "Xbox 360" GC gift card last night.
Anyone who doesn't unload their credit ASAP is just asking to loose it all. Maybe I'll preorder a COD5 prestige edition from 1 of the remaining GC's just to blow my remaining credit.
I have a few hundred in credit and keep going back and forth over this. On the one hand of course I don't want to lose it. But on the other hand I don't want to panic and do anything rash like blow it on something like a PSP Go when I could save it for a few months and get other stuff I might actually want ;). It does seem like the stores that are remaining will be OK for a while (and by that I mean at least a few months). So probably I will sit tight, though I am buying as many of the cheap HWV games as I can when I see them - partly because no one else is and partly because that credit is more secure in the form of an actual sealed game vs potentially ephemeral Gamecrazy gift cards.

The 2 stores here in (Cucamonga, CA) has a pretty lame PS3/360 selection:

- Alone in the Dark $19
- Bad Company $19
- Condemned II $19
- Need For Speed Pro Street $19

There was a few more, but you get the idea. They all sucked.

They had a Bionic Commando game but they wouldn't sell it to me for 30% Off ($44.99 actually) since apparently they forgot to ship that game out. I'm gonna wait for the 80% Off before picking up these games.

One of the GC here already closed. Everything is cleaned out inside the store. The other GC looks like it's still in business and no sign of closing anytime soon.

I panicked and did something rash. Got all of this stuff before the sale. Finally picked up a PS3 slim ($300, was charged tax b/c a closing store had no slims so I transferred to a gift card), EA Sports Active ($45 after MVP), Rock Band Wii ($18 after MVP), Marvel Ultimate Alliance PS3 disc only ($22.50 after MVP), NBA 2K7 PS3 ($4.49 after MVP), 3 Xbox controllers (1 a Duke, $4.49 after MVP), 6 Xbox games for $20, this purchase not so much a panic (DDR Ultramix 4, Halo Platinum Hits, Ninja Gaiden, all complete, next ones disc only Tao Feng, Toe Jam & Earl III, Trivial Pursuit), some e-reader cards new, but beat up (Pokemon Freezing Ray, Pokemon Iron Defense, Super Mario Advance 4 Series 1 $.99 each, this purchase not so much of a panic either), 2 GBA SPs $10 each, no coupon sheets (silver, generic power cord and red, no cord, not panic buys either). Still got $10 left over. I just signed up for the MVP on 9/12. Was trading in Ski-Doo's, 2 X-Blades, Di-Gata, got a couple of the +$5? bonus over Labor Day for other stuff, Onechanbaras Wii from BB. So I figure I've probably paid less than half, if that much, for all this stuff. It's alright though, I got around $1k in GS credit. Most of the GCs around here are closing, and I hit up multiple ones over a small period of time that I had off from work. Haven't been back since Friday. I can't pull myself to pay full price for stuff I might eventually want.

I picked up a PSP travel case, Double Agent, Mass Effect, and Bioshock for about $40. My store also had used Dsi for $70 and Regular DS for $50. I also thought I found FF7:Crisis Core for like $12 but it turns out it was an empty box... LAME. I'm going to go check another local store and see if I can score some other nice deals.

Went to two stores and they had jack and shit. So I'm just going to save my cash for the B2G1 at TRU next week and then the massive xmas sales the next month. I'd rather buy new games the next 2 months than some generic last gen garbage the next 2 weeks.

The Game Crazy in Chillicothe, OH, is remaining open. Talked to employees there today as they were unpacking inventory sent from closing stores.
