I went to the GC on 23rd Ave S (Seattle) on Saturday - the associate told me they were only starting their 30% sale Monday (today). The shelves looked like the place had been ransacked. I looked through some of the things they had left, but nothing made me want to go back.
 
Tons of easy opportunities to flip 1:1 back to GS with the 4/+20 deal still running, just transferred 100$ without any effort. I also picked up a memory card, 360 Qubed 14$ and a cheap 360 headset.

I still have the damn Wii to unload that I picked up last week, but it looks like I will be able to use all the giftcard credit I have remaining by the end of today.

Phew!! I feel so much better.

Yes they are, the barcode worked on two accessories I bought.
 
Went to the GameCrazy in Brentwood, TN (outside of Nashville). Today was the first day of their sale, and they didn't open until noon.

Selection was mediocre on all platforms. There was a ton of really good games stacked up behind the counter, but the girl there told me they were being shipped out to fulfill online orders. Bummer.

A woman came in with her son and picked up some Wii and DS accessories for close to 50% off--apparently they were already marked down before the discount.

The only "gem" I found was Halo 3 for under $30, but she couldn't find the disc for it. :( Not wanting to leave empty-handed, I picked up Incredible Hulk on PS3 for my son--it was $14.

Ironically, she said the GameCrazy in Smyrna, TN (about 30 minutes away... and a much smaller town) was staying open, and she was likely transferring there. Glad she isn't losing her job in this economy.
 
Online orders? That's weird. Perhaps she meant orders from special orders or orders from other stores? I wish there was an online store, maybe people would like GC better :)

There's a lot of stores that should be closing down that aren't. It's frustrating.
 
was wondering if this was true.. they said i could go into hollywood video and order and video game and as long as i use all of the credit on the card (to pay for it in full) I can order any game even if it comes out after gamecrazy goes belly up...

Would been nice to knew this before i picked up the two games today.

from the abyss and elbits for the DS... played and beat both of them already might give them away for xmas gifts they were only 13.30 each after 30%

fort wayne dupont was mostly wipped out... I might go back for 80% and pick up

Ncaa 2009 football and basketball for the ps2... at 80% off they would be 6.00 each (20 now)

got 60 left in store credit...
 
Grabbed Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Virtua Fighter 5 for $32. Not too bad. They didn't have much else worth grabbing.
 
My gamecrazy had multiple uncharted copies yesterday but they pulled them all off the shelves today. I hope I can find it and toys r us next week cause I know my best buys around here don't have it.
 
Blue Dragon, Enchanted Arms, Lost Planet & The Club for about $6-$7 each. Not spectacular, not bad.

Notably though, the Game Crazy in Wheaton, MD (Silver Spring, MD on GPS devices) had lots of PS3, PS2, Xbox games. Hardly any Xbox 360 games except cheaper titles.

They still had a Rock Band Beatles Premium for Wii brand new at 30% off (retail $249). Someone bought the PS3 one they had while I was there. The lady said it was weird that it wasn't listed to be sent to another store. Grab it quick if you want it.
 
Burned some credit on a Persona 3 and a Two Worlds guide. The store had not received their transfers yet so I did not see anything else game-wise. I still have some credit left so I'll go back to see what gets shipped in.
 
Picked up DDR Max 1 and a Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow guide for like 9 bucks total.

And they had a couple Disgaea 2 guides that weren't in the system anymore so the employee let me have one. Cool dude, hope he gets transferred over.
 
A lot of good titles on Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 or $4.99 game disc only in white paper sleeve... plus last gen. like Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube - I decided to hold it off and will return next week to see if there's titles still there for 50% off... I almost bought Super Paper Mario but there's more than 5 in stock so I hope they will remain there until next week.

I went to the same Game Crazy in Brentwood TN and it was a total disaster. Boxes were packed up in the middle of the floor. Not a single person was in the store though there was what appeared to be a Game Crazy employee sitting on the ground smoking in front of the Hollywood Video. I saw nothing that indicated any sale prices. I was in the store by myself the entire time. I could ask no questions though I couldn't hardly move around the boxes any way.
 
Ah it's the same old liquidation story, nothing I'd buy for 30%, but would consider for 50%-80%. Of course in a week all that will be left is sports titles.
Felt bad for the dude working there. Feel bad for the workers at the gamestop across the street as well, he told me that corporate will probably hire out of work gamecrazy managers at reduced wages and fire the existing ones. Like what happened to Best Buy workers when Circuit City closed.
 
went to the GC on Palomar Street here in San Diego and nothing really good was considering getting F1 Championship for PS3 but its $19.99 used or $29.99 new before 30% which seems too high I will wait until its 50% and if its still there i will bite. Was also mulling over Time Crisis 4 used for $19.99 used but no Gun co means no deal

Went to the local Garden Grove location here is S Cali, most of the good stuff was gone and transfered. They had quite a few ps2 games, some gamecube, a few gb advance games. I literaly filpped thru every case in the store hoping to find a few gems. Almost gave up when I found a copy of MGS; the twin snakes for gamecube. No manual, generic dvd case. The guys were nice enough to let me swap the case from a different case since it's a 2 disc game. I'm probably gonna make a cover for it and flip it on craigslist or ebay. $7.61 fow a somewhat rare game is a steal. Has anyone checked out the store on orangethorpe? What defines a "new" game at Gamecrazy? Is it a gutted or would they have more in stock? (unlikely)
 
Went in at Albany NY, Best think there was DMC4 for $22. The Hollywood was also closing, and I managed to walk out with Casshern.
 
Does anyone know if the GC's that are closing are still offering the resurfacing service while in operation? I found copies of FFVII and Musashi in pretty bad shape and wanted to get this done... but I think all the stores around me are closing.

Bad timing, eh?

I don't think so. The csr's at the store I went to were turning people away for the resurfacing service. Try applying some car wax on the disc and let it sit under direct sunlight for a few minutes. Then buff it with a microfiber cloth. Gamestop also sells a great resurfacing paste, it's like 10 bucks though. With this method I have been able to repair some unplayable games/cd's/dvd's
 
CAme back with more than I was expecting. I picked up a Logitech Harmony Remote for only $27.99 and they even had a Logitech Force Feedback Wheel, the one that added the 900 degree rotation for only $27.99 but I already had one and left it there. Still not bad. Better than I expected. Very happy about the Harmony Remote though.

As funny as it sounds... peanut butter works fantastic... so does certain brands of toothpaste :p Just use only a little bit, buff it in slowly/gently, and when it looks almost clean again just use a damp cloth and buff it again. The oils in the peanut butter have nearly the exact same refraction as the plastic used on CDs/DVDs ;)
 
Went yesterday after work to get a gift card for my trade in money, I must say 95% of the store was already gone, and no I don't think anyone hoard it.

Most of it was put on boxes by the employees. Guy mention that the store in Garland will remain open, care to say that is the ONLY other store in the entire DFW area, I guess the only trip I'm going to make is when Uncharted 2 comes out to get my copy and that's it for GameCrazy at least for me.

To far away even if they have a really good deal.
 
At my GC yesterday that wasn't closing, the employee was taking games off shelves with a list in hand. I asked him what the deal was and he said corporate told them they are consolidating and freeing up store space for games that would sell. I wonder if another round of store cuts is on its way?
 
Ah! Apparently there will be at least 2 stores remaining open here in Las Vegas. For those interested, the one on Lake Mead and Buffalo will remain open, as well as the one on Charleston and Maryland, which is a strange stand-alone Game Crazy.

Hmm, not surprised about this. But I am surprised that it's coming so soon. Maybe they're closing down HWV stores in January and some of those stores have GC's attached?

I read the posts as CAGs are trying to salvage their built up credit to another store at 1 to 1 rather than try to use it on a bunch of unsellable items. I'm sure we will find a few items here and there, but it might be tough to use up a lot of credit. I just took mine out on gift cards. I'll use them at HV or one of the two remaining GC (not so) near me.
 
was talking to one person here in fort wayne and they said they were shocked they were closing down.,.. they still have a 2 year lease on the place... they guess hollywood would just use it at storage or something else

Some people (including me) have speculated that the suddeness and lack of information on these closings were purposely done to lessen the value of credit. This email gives us a little more credibility. For example, $300 in credit converted to $300 on a Gift card will only buy $283 worth of merchandise here in Michigan with our 6% sales tax. In areas with higher sales tax, the return is even less.

But did you go to your store to see for yourself what was going on? And did you ask any employees what they heard?
 
The only store in the San Diego, Ca area remaining open will be the store on Aero Dr. up near the stadium... so if you have credit you can take it up to that store

Oh yes, I heard from the employees the day they found out it was closing that the store was closing. They are currently gutted except for the used games and are down to 3 employees working the store. Sadly I lost $$$ since I had to convert my $300 credit to GC to go get a new PS3 slim from another store that was being closed. Had them hold it for me on the day that the stuff was being sent out. If not for CAG i would pretty much have $300 in useless credit.

If worst came to worst, you could have taken it as a gift card and then traded it with someone for cash.

I checked out the Waukegan IL Gamecrazy today, both it and the Hollywood video are closed and the employees are inside boxing up everything.

Sign on the store said to go to either Round Lake IL or Kenosha WI, so those two stores appear to be staying open.

The Waukegan GameCrazy AND Hollywood Video on N Lewis Ave are both closed as of 10-05-2009
 
Went to my local GameCrazy thats closing today. They still had quite a few games, just nothing I was really interested in. I did pick up Lunar Knights for the DS for 18.99 - 30%. im pretty happy i found it, its pretty hard to find new.

Pretty sure this was happening at the CC closing so it's not surprising.

Do you feel that it's wrong for people to try and make their credit useful? GC is basically to blame for any "panic" movement of credit by not announcing these closings earlier and letting people use their credit at the stores that were scheduled to close. Instead, people are now scrambling because they have to convert credit to gift cards for a store that might be 50 or more miles away. Well you could go ahead and use that credit/gift card to buy a bunch of old games you don't already have or at HWV to rent movies. :roll:

If I had any GC credit, I would turn it into something else real fast myself. This chain might not be around this time next year.
 
Went to the store in old bridge, nj. Had some wii ps3 and 360 games, but there a sign saying most of the stuff on display was not there. Didnt pick anything up

Me personally? I don't see the problem with it. It's a crap situation just like the CC closure for all the employees, but I don't think it's wrong to try to take advantage and get a somewhat good deal on games.

Hopefully, you guys with credit can pull off getting it back and you GC employee CAGs can get back on your feet.

Anyone go to any Illinois GCs yet? Thinking about going to a couple later this week.
