You know the more I think about this the more I think it was a totally retarded move. By forcing me to use all my credit and take stock out of the GC system, they have taken what was ineffect an interest free loan, and converted it into a trivial sale that may or may not convert into a profit after the 30% has been taken off. The games I take out of the system at a discount are a loss, and now they have no loan. Those of you who are keeping credit in the system are playing with fire. Transfer it to GS while you can, it was a piece of cake. I did a final flip today and I'm GC free.

No. He was talking about people who are buying games just to resell them. Not people who already had credit at GC.

I must admit I did buy a couple of games to flip to goozex for a points to cash profit, so it is feasible.
 
AHHHH this came out of nowhere, I should check CAG more on a daily basis.

I got bamboozled I had over $3 of store credit from one Game Crazy store & they didn't even take it in another Game Crazy store that I went to.

Didn't some people mention that Saints Row 2 (360) being $15? I went today & it was $24.99 used at one place & $17.99 used with no case/manual in another, both stores were closing btw.
 
Aw nuts. Just heard a msg CG left me on the machine saying my local store is closing. That's what I get for not going in. Good thing I didnt get that job I applied for...

So, what is a good way to move credit from there? I think I have about $60 and wouldn't mind getting 360 stuff to keep or just to take to GS.

There used to be one but that one closed a couple of years ago. Too bad, as that was the best one IMO.
 
Oh man, Arizona stores are getting RAPED. For Mesa/Gilbert/Chandler, the only stores remaining open are on Alma School and Ray and Alma School and Main (though a second store told me this too is closing) Then there's going to be something like 15 stores staying open in Phoenix, but still. One manager, which could be spreading speculation, was saying that the company couldn't afford to order one of this holiday's biggest games, Modern Warfare 2, so they liqudated some stores to have the funds to do so. It seems crazy, but plausible to me I guess.

He also mentioned that standalone Game Crazy stores should be built in Spring 2010. I hope this is true.

But at any rate, I got a new set of Pelican bongos for Gamecube for .69 after discount. Also got a Harmony 360 remote for 27.99. Seems like a good price.
 
Picked this stuff up before the sale (Post #1182) [Rock Band Wii ($18 after MVP), Marvel Ultimate Alliance PS3 disc only ($22.50 after MVP), NBA 2K7 PS3 ($4.49 after MVP)] but now I know I pulled the trigger too quickly. I went back to that store yesterday and it's all 30% off. I thought I should pick those games up to burn my leftover credit and not risk those getting pulled. Surprisingly, there are still a handful of games that are worth picking up, not at 30%, but still. I saw a Super Mario Galaxy and Brawl used, so apparently not everything over 18.99 got pulled and shipped off.

My store actually has a significant number of new wii games still in stock, about 30 new 360 games, and 3 copies of used zelda for wii, so good deals are still to be had. I'm hoping the store gets some more stock from the less profitable other stores, the garden grove store had the best numbers for monday. I'm guessing that a number of the other stores will shut down early in the next week to eliminate staff. And an interesting question was raised about what they will do with the leases that they no longer need, my opinion is they will default on the payments, file bankruptcy in January and walk away from all the debt they have incurred.
 
I stopped by my local GameCrazy yesterday to see if they were one of the ones that would be closing, since they weren't listed on Joystiq's running list of confirmed closings but they no longer were popping up on the GameCrazy store locator. Lo and behold, they'd already completely emptied out, as well as the adjacent Hollywood Video. I had PREORDERS at this GameCrazy. I called the corporate customer service line, and they said they couldn't find any record of any preorders under my name in their system. I need go dig through my room to find my receipts and see if I can call them back and prove that I had these preorders that I'd paid for. I'm only glad I'd put down the minimum $5 on each and not paid for any in full like I'd been originally considering.

Ugh.

Thats a nightmare, I bet the clerks made off with your credit, and thus no preorders are in the system. You can ask them to give you a transaction history report of your account, I've done that in the past because I had a weird credit missing issue a long time ago, that I think was due to the way that when credit is refunded, it never actually tells you which transaction was refunded on your receipt, but corporate does know and can tell you exactly.

No one has said anything about the vibe of the stores when they go in. I want to go a GC close to me but not if the mood is too low. Especially since they might not even have anything I want. Although it could be fun if the employee gets testy I can finally tell them to fuck off.

The several employees/managers I have dealt with in the last week have been very friendly and helpful. They have not been "low", but the same as they have always been to me. Of course I'm not in there bitching about my lost credit or how long I have been a customer or where are my pre-orders? I have talked with them about the closings before the liquidation started and they have been up front about what they have or may be getting from other stores. Overall, the service and rapport has been good in the past and remains so today.

I know, right? :cry: I seriously seem to have the worst luck when buying games. About 2-3 years back, GameStop royally screwed me over, so I figured I'd stick to buying games from Best Buy. In the interim, our Best Buy has gone downhill so fast it's not even funny, and they either (1) don't carry the games I'm looking for, even on their web site, or (2) don't get them in until few weeks after their initial release date. I swear they didn't used to be this bad...

After that, I started just ordering all my games through Amazon... until our local post office kept "losing" all the games I was ordering... including the Limited Edition BlazBlue I ordered... which they did eventually deliver, aside from the fact someone had already been into the box and taken the game itself out... >_<

After all that, I started frequenting the GameCrazy that was nearby, and discovered that aside from the whole "if-you-don't-preorder-we-won't-get-any-copies-in" shtick, they were actually really decent. I'd built up a rapport with them, and figured if they were one of the locations that was closing, then in addition to popping in and finding some deals, I could at least tell them that I was sorry to see them go.

tl;dr: RANT RANT RANT. Do we know the earliest date that GameCrazy locations were actually shuttering? I was really surprised that it was completely gutted already.

Are any of the deals you guys have seen worth driving 45 minutes out to the next closest location to get a hold of?
 
I picked up both KOTOR I and II for 7.00 each....My store had a lot of PS2 and Xbox games, but most of the good PS3 and 360 games were gone. They had still a decent amount of new games, but I doubt any will be left by the time the 80% hits, but the store is in a bad spot, so people might not notice it.
 
The timetable for the liquidation, corroborated by several sources:

10/3-10/9: 30% off everything in the store
10/10-10/16: 50% off everything in the store
10/17-Closing: 80% off everything in the store


since the 30% off did not start till the 5th does the 50% and 80% get pushed back 2 days or those still the real Dates

We shouldn't be cheering for store closures. The more chains we lose, the fewer deals we'll find. We've lost Circuit City as we knew it, and we're losing KMart and Game Crazy as we speak. I've found more game deals at these three stores than all the others combined. Once the underdogs are gone, good luck finding many deals. Target has been a goldmine lately, but once they get their "next gen" game inventory under better control, expect the overstocking (and the clearances which follow) to end. We should try supporting the stores with great clearances by buying other products we use at them, like toothpaste and soda. I bought a cordless drill and a vacuum at Sears, both on sale but not clearanced.
 
I must agree with ytsejames that the more stores that we lose the less and less bargains that we are going to have. I know that it is great to get the deals but in the long run, if Sears, Kmart and Gamecrazy/hollywood video go out of buisiness, we are all going to lose out on any deals.

According to their memo's they scrapped that original plan.

from 10/5-10/16 everything will be 30% off, then rumor has it that it will start to increase towards the final day, but corporate didn't give a percentage. My guess would be 50% for a few days and then 80% like on the last couple of days. To try and weasel out a few more bucks.

What you posted was the original plan....but corporate keeps changing things up at the last minute which is throwing me off.
 
I'm pretty sad that the Game Crazy stores I usually go to are closing. Hopefully, the only one not closing stays in business and survives this recession. So far, the best deal i've been able to score was a brand new Logitech Driving Force GT. It was marked $129, but when the cashier rang it up, it was on sale for $99 plus the extra 30%, so I ended up paying $70 for it. Awesome deal just in time for Need for Speed Shift and Gran Turismo 5.

The employee at the Potomac Yard location said that all Northern Virginia stores will be closing. The nearest one will now be in Forrestville, Maryland.

I went to the Potomac Yard location yesterday and they still have a lot of great stuff. I picked up a PSP Skype Headset, GT3 A-Spec, Initial D Live-Action UMD and KH: Chain of Memories for GBA all for $35. Their PS2 selection is particularly good, some of the highlights are Eternal Poison, Shadow of the Colossus, the entire Ratchet and Clank series and MGS 2. Their PS3 collection was a bit slim, I saw Turok for $5 and UT3 for $8. The PSP selection was a bit more limited but they did have Astonishia Story, Riviera and Brave Story, which are pretty tough to find normally. They had a lot of 360 titles as well, but I didn't look through it much. The Xbox selection was a bit more limited as almost everything is without a case and all the really good titles were absent. They did have three DVD playback kits which only $5 and are great if you have a modded box with XMBC. The GBA selection was pretty great and they even had some recently shipped in sealed GBA titles for the collectors out there. The DS selection was decent, none of the incredible titles but some pretty recent stuff was still around. The Wii selection was non-existant.

I plan on going back when they drop to 50%, although the employee said that the dates for that are up in the air. She also said that the store will without a doubt be closed by the end of the month or sooner if the stock sells out.

Some other notes would be that their resurfacing machine is gone. They let me use the one in the Hollywood Video, for free, but it did nowhere near as good a job as the GC one. They are no longer able to do exchanges and all returns have to be called in. I also asked about fixtures, because they still have the display 360, PS3 and PS2 sitting around, but she said those would not be available for sale as they are sent back to the company. Finally, just in case it hasn't been mentioned before, the 30% does not stack with the GC membership.
 
Went over there a few days ago. Got myself a couple of old games: Soul Calibur 2 (PS2) and Unreal Tournament (PS3). Planning to go back next week when everything reaches 50% and then again in the final week when games are as cheap as dirt. Picking up things a little at a time. Hopefully there will be something good left :whistle2:D
 
Any good ideas for PS3/Xbox360/Wii games with $10 or higher TIV at Gamestop? I'm hoping to pick them up for less than $10, and then with the $20 for 4 trade ins, pick up a cheap Brutal Legend preorder.
 
Picked up Wild Arms 5 and Soul Nomad for PS2 for like 20 each. Also snagged the PS3 memory card adapter for 10. Not the greatest but I didn't think I'd find either cheaper brand new anywhere else.

what sucks i can swear i picked up wild arms 5 like 6 months back off gamecrazy but have no clue where the hell i threw the package
