The list of closing GC stores here:

Welcome! I've got a FAQ-in-progress on the second post, so go ahead and read through that and hopefully it answers whatever questions you may have about Game Crazy's trade-ins. You can also find a list of guides that you can buy for $0.01 (yes, a penny) at Game Crazy (thanks to IAmTheCheapestGamer).

Anyway, I'm pretty much going to do the same work JP is doing. Post your TiVs from Game Crazy here and I'll update. Simple.

I'll also be posting GC's latest promotions, offers, and price drops (if Scorch posts any new drops, then they'll be added here) Thanks, Scorch!

*DISCLAIMER* These prices and dates are supplied by the CAG community, and as such there aren't always regular updates on every title. The dates at the edge of each game give an idea of when it last received that amount. If the quote is older than 3 days, the likelihood is that the value went down. Not always the case but something to keep in mind. These values are always just a way to give an idea of what to expect, not actual returns. There is no guarantee involved that these prices are 100% accurate.

I showed up at noon on the first day. The North Lamar store in Austin was HEAVILY picked over and those few things of interest I found were missing manuals and in dummy cases.

Bleah. Very disappointing.

Austin's a college town -- what do you expect?

Went to the Game Crazy in Concord, CA last Friday. Picked up LOTRO Collector's edition with the game, and expansion for only $7. And, a new-ish copy of Nightmare of Druaga, for $3.50.
The store had some decent used stuff... but, not decent enough for me to spend more than $11.

Also, I talked to the employee there. He claimed that most of the other Northern Cali stores, are staying open. And that GC is being restructured to be more like GameStop. And, to expect brand new Game Crazy's in Malls Across America, starting in Spring 2010.
Scorch, can you confirm when 50% off happens? Is it this saturday, monday or ??????/
good question because i will go back to pick up a few games if they are still there when 50% starts...or should I wait for 80%?

From what I understand, the 30% is going to continue on next week, and the last week is when we might see more of a drop....if I hear anything, you guys will be the first to know.

I stopped by the last local GC earlier today, and it is closing as well. Oddly enough, after having shipped out all the top-dollar games to other stores, they recieved a shipment of something like ~500 PS2/XBox games. Most are in just sleeves, marked at $5 or less. I didn't end up biting on any, but I did find a variety of NFS and GTA games on top of the usualy pile of old sport games. They also had quite a few copies of Syphon Filter. All in all if I didn't have a PS3 or high end PC I'd be loving all the low priced PS2 games they are pumping into the liquidation stores to try to sell them fast.

As far as the drop goes... the guy working there had the letter/email from corporate sitting on the counter. All it says is that there will be a clearance until the 19th, it didn't mention anything about further price drop dates and he has been told nothing by his manager either. He also didn't know the official close date for his store, so it'd be safe to assume either the next clearance isn't until the 19th or the 19th is when they are closing the doors.

Also, an employee at Sears actually told me he found a 25% off coupon for used games at GC in an Entertainment book. I haven't confirmed this yet but it could lead to some ridiculously low prices.
In malls? That's not the plan the company is shooting for at all.
Well, that's the story that the Manager of the Concord, CA Game Crazy store gave me... since you work for the company, you could probably get in touch with him, and find out what the hell he's talking about. But, that's what he told me, and everyone else in the store, when we asked what was going to happen. He said they were going to become a "seperate stand alone chain" like GameSpot, and "to expect to see Game Crazy's in Malls Across America, starting in the Spring of 2010"

Extremely YMMV on those coupons stacking, They wouldn't even stack that with the VIP Card for me.

So has the 50% off liquidation sale started in anyone's store yet? I tried calling mine but nobody's answering, lol.

If your planning on using those coupons at stores that are liquidating....you will be turned down. GC won't double discount, like as of now the MVP is pretty much useless at the closing stores, because they can't top the 10% onto the 30% going on right now, the computers won't let us. Just to give you a heads up, besides....how can you argue with 30%

Still %30 off at my local GC, the employees wouldn't say when %50 starts.

Looks like the Joystiq article has been updated with the 12th as the date.

originally the 50% was supposed to start this week (sat or monday) but from what my friends are telling me it looks like 30% through the week with no new memo on when/if they would actually go to 50%.

one of my friends who works there says he is expecting 50% to start the last week the stores are open and then 80% for the last couple of days.

I decided to stop by a local one which didn't have crap but they had plenty of free game slips and manuals to replace the ones of mine that were damaged. Free is free.

Any word on the Canton, OH or Austintown, OH stores as to closing?

The Austintown one is disputed on the Joystiq article, but the Canton one isn't listed.

thank god for this thread, i went to my gamecrazy yesterday, and they are not on list but they closed today and so did hwood video! i would have been out 250+

the guy at my store in portland said the same thing (minus the malls). that they were opening up stores that were standalone, not part of hollywood. he also mentioned nobody was going to lose their job.

Went to my local closing GC today, and asked if 50% off happened yet. Not there, and the guy said he doesn't expect the store to get to 50%. Odd, because the store was pretty full for a closing store. Full selection of guides, and a decent 360 and Wii section. Whatever, I'm probably going to stop in tomorrow and see if it's happened yet. I picked up Enchanted Arms with the outer box and graphic novel for something like $7.

One thing I'll miss about GC, their used game stickers come off so much easier than GameStop.
the guy at my store in portland said the same thing (minus the malls). that they were opening up stores that were standalone, not part of hollywood. he also mentioned nobody was going to lose their job.
Sorry to say, but that sounds like wishful thinking.

Have seen a few NoVA posts but no one's ever mentioned the Chantilly GC. However, it's a bit small on selection.

Can confirm that they think 50% is Monday (guess of employee).

Well I am opening at my Gamecrazy today...I am going to check our store Intranet and see if I can get any info on the next percentage off.....I'll be back to post any of my findings.

My local Game Crazy isn't closing, but they've been getting stock from other stores, which I'm happy about. They just got 5 new copies of Assassin's Creed limited edition in, which I was happy to find when I missed the initial $30 price drop.
reliable source says he thinks monday is 50% off, a different semi reliable source says he "knows but cant tell me" lol
I called and employee said he believes that 30% off will go for one more week then 50% off but wasn't sure

So... some people (and GC employees), are confirming that the 50% off starts today. And, some people (and GC employees), are denying that the 50% off, is even going to happen. I guess we'll see today, starting at 12pm EDT (aka 9am PDT).

The 50% off deal is NOT HAPPENING!!! I work for a Game Crazy thats closing. They took that away from us. I wouldn't be shocked if they make the third and final week of liquidation 50% OFF instead of 80%.

Knowing the FUC% STICKS at corporate, they'll just keep it at 30% off.
Assassin's Creed LE is 29.99? I *think* I saw this at a closing store. Would love it for 14.99 if 50% is starting tomorrow.
My store sent this one back before clearance started.

stores dont' decide anything.

Corporate decides everythign, and before these sales even began they decided that they probably are not doing 50% (maybe the last week instead of 80).

It was in a memo that came out, the same memo that pushed the start of the sale from the weekend (saturday) to Monday so that they could try to squeeze out a few more full priced purchases from their shrinking customer base.

Corporate sent a coupon for the employees to scan to drop the price 30%, there is no 50% coupon currently and won't be one until the night before/morning of if it actually happens.

I said before, but I think they will prob start the last week that these stores are open at 50% off, and then do 80% for the last two days or whatever.

Remember guys, these clearances are just a test run for the next 200+ stores that will start closing after the holiday season (read: January).

I agree, GC and HWV are in the finals days. I'll say it again, these clearances were a simple tool to generate cash to allow the purchase of xmas stock for the most profitable of stores. Even with the closing I guarantee that the best games will be in short supply at the remaining stores as GC management will NOT risk buying too much stock. Come Jan. they will close the remaining questionable stores in a bankruptcy refiling. They will need to file bankruptcy to eliminate all the debt they have in member credit and unused real estate leases.

If you keep credit after the xmas period your insane.

p.s And I wouldn't be surprised if the 200 store#, starts to creep upwards as they discover all the relocated stock is still not selling.

From my understanding, after the 2nd wave of closings they are only going to have about 200 stores left that they plan on keeping open, and then from this point on any new store will be a stand alone.

I'm assuming the first means to business will be to put stand alones up where the ones attached to hollywood exist and are doing great... and closing the one in the hollywood.
This way they will slowly separate their businesses (like should have been done years ago) and run it as a seperate company, and from there maybe they will finally try to properly re-brand it and push it to compete with Game Stop.

Also, Hollywood for a while now has been planning on running "video game stores that also rent movies" and you will see their business models turning that way probably sometime next year. This is why they have been putting "Game Zones" in a lot of hollywoods (which coincidentally all started after the bankruptcy filiing). Those stores, that now don't have game crazy's near them, will start expanding their video game selections and condencing their movie sections over time because the are only making money on the Video Game side. They are not competing well with NetFlix and RedBox.

But the GameZone development was abruptly stopped recently, more evidence of a cash crunch. The only reason I can see that standalone vs attached as beneficial, is if they intend to close all the hwv stores. Why wouldn't you want to benefit from possible casual purchases from an associated line of business, I really don't understand why being attached to hwv would be perceived as a negative, unless the GC couldn't expand to meet the business needs. GC has always differed from BBV's attempt at selling games, by the fact that the game space was entirely segregated and staffed with competent game aware staff.

Having larger standalone stores seems like a fair goal, but why would you try and achieve it by gutting the current business and loosing all your staff and customers.

I don't believe that this company will be around much longer. If they do need to close stores to supply others with stock for X-Mas, where will they come up with the money to open "stand alone" stores? And as far as the HWV Game Zones, if they're planning on expanding them, why did they gut them recently?

I do think a video game store that rents movies would work. Just rent the movies out from "Redbox style" vending machines.

Just got back from my local closing store. The manager said that he thought the 50% might start next week. But no confirmation. And also, he also speculated the same thing stoned99 said. That the only reason they'd close stores before the holidays is they need the money and are in much worse shape than they are letting on.

YMMV on the Gamezone gutting. My local HWV gutted theirs to become a "budget Gamezone" (all games $19.99 and under) but another one still has all their stuff and seems to have increased stock in fact.

As for GC, well, there aren't a lot of stores closing around here so I guess it is all a matter of perspective. How sure are we on this second round of closings though? When I asked at my local GC which stores around here were closing they could only come up with 1 out of about 10-12. I asked specifically about a few others that I freqent and they laughed and said those are some of the highest selling stores (much like their own) and aren't going anywhere. He then assured me that the credit on my account at their store (the only place I have more than $1 at) is like "money in the bank". Yeah, well, we all know how banks are failing and such now!

I'm really split between just holding on to my credit and dumping it for a couple of DSi's or a PSP Go or something. I'd really rather not spend it, though, since I don't need those things. Meanwhile, there are still plenty of ways to continue to acquire credit though I know this thread has put that all on hold for now. But I just traded my last "The Chase" DS game to a regular HWV and still got $13.64 for it.

All I've been spending my credit on is the $5 off new games sale at HWV but since all I can find are a game or two here or there for $9.99 or $14.99 that isn't using up a lot of credit.

All of the GameCrazys in Northern Virginia (possibly all of it?) are closing. However, none of the ones in Maryland or Pennsylvania are. (This info from two different GC employees).

This might be different in other states.

I've actually been to one of the GC stores in NoVA - a while back though.

What I'm trying to get at is the truth behind this second round (after the current one) where people say they will close 200 more early next year. I think it's pretty tough to go by anything any one particular GC employee says. So while I'm wary of the "money in the bank" statement, I'd also be skeptical of some of the wilder massive closing rumors.
