Meanwhile, there are still plenty of ways to continue to acquire credit though I know this thread has put that all on hold for now. But I just traded my last "The Chase" DS game to a regular HWV and still got $13.64 for it.

I live in Michigan and I believe that all but one store will close. And the HWV I live near, has had a considerable reduction in stock. So maybe MG/HWV is planning on leaving this state?

As far as believing if this chain will be gone or not. It hasn't been healthy for a long time. It's been what, two years since the last major round of closings, and things haven't yet improved? It's far easier for me to believe that they'll disappear in the next few years than to think they'll ride out the poor economy.
 
No GC closings around here in the south suburbs of Chicago.
After talking to them they said they don't even think the 3 or 4 others in the area are closing up.

What i DID find however was that Ghostbusters for 360 was $19 bucks... so I grabbed one.
 
FOR ALL WHO POSTED ABOVE ABOUT 50% THIS WEEK

To end all the debates, I've check the GC Intranet on our computers and corporate left the memo saying that ((the 30% off will remain in effect until further notice))

Meaning once they decide 50% or 80% will go in effect, it will be last minute. They are just trying to get as much money as they can before the next drop which is reasonable, since they feel they are generating strong sales from the current percentage rate.

They will drop it most likely next week since it's the final, or they will drop it once the closing stores are reporting the sales are slowing down (which at least they are at my store)

Once they report a drop, I'll respond to you guys....or Scorch will beat me to the punch, lol

The biggest problem with the current model with GC attached to HWV is that the company has not been smart enough to seperate the business's fully, financially.

What I'm saying is that while the incomes get reported seperately, ALL of the rent money and electricty and any other bills for the joint stores is coming directly out of the Hollywood Video Accounts.

I personally loved having my GC inside a HWV because of the cross promotion stuff that the stores could do, however there are alot of GC's that only look profitable because they are not having to pay rent or anything.

If you are going to run them as two brands you have to completely financially seperate them so that they can stand or fail on their own, which has not happened except for the newer stand alone stores.

Also, the big Issue that I had with the game zones was that it was basically the company infringing on itself and adding undue competition and expecting all of the numbers for every game crazy to not drop off while hollywoods with GZ's now started adding extra revenue..... I guess the company thought that they would just be stealing business from Game Stop/Blockbuster/Best Buy/whatever without hurting themselves. Especially since they were essentially Game crazy's but without the ability to use the MVP card.

In all honesty, HWV Inc has probably lost my business for life with the way that they decided to handle the whole situation (only way I go back is if I know people working for a particular store).

I'm so dumb I should taken the cash option for the X blades games


I have to drive 20 miles to go to one remaining game crazy.
 
I went to Game Crazy in Centreville, VA yesterday anticipating 50% off everything. Apparently they have pushed 50% off until 'next monday or tuesday'. Just giving anyone else a heads up if they're expecting 50 and not 30.
 
I went to my local gamecrazy and used up my game disk cleaner card and got Genji I wanna see the crab boss and it was a shame nothing in the store and the workers were all bummed out.

I've been told the only ones that are staying open are the ones in Los Gatos and N. Capital Av. All others are closing or have been closed.

yup, confirmed. two staying open, five closing in our area. it's too bad, GameCrazy ran some great promos during the holidays. I was really looking forward to that. Well, there's still two left for now.....

To all those who have MVP cards, now is a good time to go and get your scratched discs cleaned....

Just for those who don't know, game Crazy recently changed their terms that MVP members get free disc cleanings, not just a 5 free disc cleaning card... now it's free for the year that your membership is active!

can any worker confirm that you can BUY ANY GAME from hollywood video.. I was told i can take my gift card over to hollywood video after gamecrazy closes and order any game as long as i pay in full
 
Honestly, with the way the execs have been treating things, I would not totally rely on the higher clearances going though. I would maybe expect the 50% for a bit because they now and then do a BOGO discount that is very comparable.

With GC's current state, you have to observe that they do not need to get rid of everything. What is left over can easily be shipped to other locations. I would not hold my breath on 80%, or perhaps we'll see them ship out most the half-decent stuff before 80%.

I think in certain areas this can work. When Blockbuster had upped their new game stock and pushed preorders and such they didn't do very well, but the HWV down the street once it got it's Gamezone did very well. Now, I have no idea if this cannibalized the Gamecrazy stores (all of which are 8+ miles away) but it certainly did in the local Blockbuster. I was pretty much the only person ever to trade at BBV but the HWV manager told me they get a ton of trades at his store. I've also seen the HWV employees at the closest GC getting games transferred in to their store for customer requests. But like you say, it is possible it just meant more convenience for people living here that they didn't have to drive to 16 miles round trip to that GC store any more. I know I liked it though - and now that they've devolved to a "budget Gamzone" I'm not as nearly interested in them as I used to be. I still trade there occasionally though.

I can confirm this is BS, sadly. :cry: I live in MD right on the NoVA border, and like the 3 closest MD stores to me are closing or already closed. If the all the NoVA stores are indeed closing, that means the next closest GameCrazy location is up in Frederick - but even then, this location may be closing; I haven't driven up there to check...
 
Yea I walked in one of the stores near me and noticed all the stuff they had was older more clearance bin type games. I asked one of the guys about it and they said the night before the sale started they had to box up everything that would actually "sell" and send them to other stores that were going to remain open.

CONFIRMED! You can pre-order at Hollywood Video using your Giftcard from Game Crazy and get the game, but must pay it in full.
 
Update on the clearance sale. They have once again box up items and shipped out many, many, many ds, wii, xbox360, ps3 games. It was literally 8 games for the ds section alone. I smell 50% soon but at this point, everything I had my eye on for my ds collection is fucking gone. I don't give a fuck about guiness world records.

Anyway, good luck finding anything you would want.

The ONLY GC in the DMV (DC - Maryland - Virginia) that will remain open is located in Forestville, MD... think Pennsylvania Ave & I-495 (beltway) intersection.

I was at the store at 84th & Pecos yesterday and they were already entirely closed down. Honestly though it seemed like one of the most ghetto GCs here in Colorado so I'm hoping its just that one. I'm going to call up a few stores today and see if they are still open and if they have started 80% off yet or if that is tomorrow.
 
Man, seems like a lot of CAGers are in the DC area. Anyone check out the Gamecrazy in Annandale? I'll likely wait until 50%, but won't even bother if it's a ghost town already.

I am going back to the Potomac Yard (northern Virginia) location on next Wednesday to see whats still around. Ill give people a heads up if the discount has bumped to 50% by then.

I just got off the phone with one of the managers at a closing store and he said that the discount will be upped to 50% off on Monday. I heard a rumor on another site that someone spoke with a DM in New York and they said the 50% off would be voided in favor of a straight 30 to 80% jump.

Yeah, keep in mind, they do not need to sell everything people. Game Crazy is very good at moving stock around. You can tell by how few posts there have been on this subject how lame all this has been.
 
Here's the story of the stores in my area.

Today I FINALLY saw a Game Crazy that had a 30% off sign in the window. I went in, and it was basically TOTALLY dry in there. Only thing that was left were a bunch of old used PS2 games and a few accessories like a Wii steering wheel. I asked what was up and the guy working there said that all the new inventory was shipped out to the remaining GameCrazy that was staying open, and what was left was staying at the 30% off. He said "Odds are we MIGHT get to 50%, but there's seriously almost nothing left to bother with. So I don't know".

So basically everything new or good is going to the other store, and the leftovers like Pimp My Ride and Bad Boys Miami Takedown are up for grabs.

This is South Suburbs Chicago area.

I'm just hoping to find things that GS will give me >$2 for. Bigs, Crackdown, Enchanted Arms, etc. At 50% off, it will be a real good way to move credit.

lol, I just cant get enough of this GS trade-in promo. I already got a new Elite & a Wii from it on trade-ins alone. And if this 50% liquidation overlaps next week, I'll have at least a new DS also.

Apparently any surrounding closing stores are sending their leftover new stuff to the Oak Forest store.
 
First time I went by a GC in my area. It is the only one and they said they weren't closing. I picked up Ghostbuster new 19.99 and FEAR used 14.99 for PS3. The clerk said they had a 30% off used last weekend, and to check in for deals all the time. Good store I will have to drop in more often.
 
Can one of the iphone users confirm the current TIV for Ski-doo, both PS3 and 360? I see that GS has dropped the 360 price to $4.99/$3.99 to match the PS3 price. Wondering if either/both are still decent flips. Thanks!
 
dont even waste your time in fort wayne... both stores are wiped clean of anything good even before they hit 30%

the dupont one had 0 Ds games left and maybe 5 used PSP junk ..

cousin went in there last night and the workers were very rude... went over to hollywood video and they said that is one reason they are shutting the doors ... the main office got sick of people calling up telling how the Gamecrazy workers were #$#$# them over.

dont know who she saw last night but the only worker i knew at the dupont one was cory and she was nice and friendly.

Thanks for pointing that out. I wonder if the TiV is still the same. $15 for a $5 purchase is great, especially since there is about 10 copies around me, going by the website, not to mention price matches from other stores. But I think it has dropped. Best Buys have them in clearance and their website have dropped it.

As far as I can tell, the ski-doo xbox 360 doesn't show up on the iphone app.

I can confirm that the dark spire is now most likely in every GS system and probably Space chimps too.

Also, if you want to go through with it, you can sell Ski Doo on eBay for the same over $13, sometimes over $20, plus shipping
