The list of closing GC stores here:

Welcome! I've got a FAQ-in-progress on the second post, so go ahead and read through that and hopefully it answers whatever questions you may have about Game Crazy's trade-ins. You can also find a list of guides that you can buy for $0.01 (yes, a penny) at Game Crazy (thanks to IAmTheCheapestGamer).

Anyway, I'm pretty much going to do the same work JP is doing. Post your TiVs from Game Crazy here and I'll update. Simple.

I'll also be posting GC's latest promotions, offers, and price drops (if Scorch posts any new drops, then they'll be added here) Thanks, Scorch!

*DISCLAIMER* These prices and dates are supplied by the CAG community, and as such there aren't always regular updates on every title. The dates at the edge of each game give an idea of when it last received that amount. If the quote is older than 3 days, the likelihood is that the value went down. Not always the case but something to keep in mind. These values are always just a way to give an idea of what to expect, not actual returns. There is no guarantee involved that these prices are 100% accurate.

my la verne store closed and not only did the gamecrazy close but the hwv attached did too

sad it closed only a week after the first promotion
Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. So that extension thing IS true? :D Seems like the 80% off WILL happen, then! :O Someone notify the OP, and/or change the thread title to reflect the extensions.
Uh, no? Just because they're staying open doesn't mean shit regarding 80%. Not all of them are doing it, either, so chill out. Very few have been offered the extension (which is still up in the air for the most part).

saw bionic commando for $20 ps3/360 Brentwood, CA

GC sells this at $20 new, $18 used.
I finally got back to the closing store near me last night, but the two items I was interested in (Halo 3 Legendary, the only one I've seen in a store in a long long time, and 12 month Live subscription) both were sold before it hit 50%. There were a couple of tempting items, used Burnout Revenge (360) would have been $7.50, and used Metal Gear Solid Essentials would have been $8, but I decided to pass... for now.
It's been a loooong time since I've hung around here, but don't you/didn't you live in or around Nashville? I seem to remember you running to Hohenwald to snag a lot of Donkey Kongas once upon a time. Or maybe I'm batshit insane.

Psh. There I go again, making false assumptions. X/ My bad. Got a little too carried away there. :p

When I went to the Concord, CA store a few weeks ago, they hardly had anything left. I don't see a reason to bother going back, in the hopes that they have 50% off. Plus, Kotaku posted a picture of an empty Game Crazy, and it was identical to the one in Concord, so i'm not going to travel all of that way, just to be dissapointed by a closed store.

same here...the pittsburg GC jus actually closed but there are games inside the hollywood video (right next door)...the one in brentwood is still up and running...i think that store isnt closing...i think...

if i c something worthwhile i'll let u know

My local GC is on it's death bed. They've given up on cases, and just put their remaining games out on the counter for customers to pick through. I'm sure theft is happening, but I don't think they care anymore. One glimmer of hope: a few of the employees are being kept on at HWV to run it's used games department. Only a few though, and the rest are unfortunately out of a job.

I picked up a few games while I was there. Most are disc-only. They had a wide selection of Guitar Hero/Rock Band guitars left, and I'm considering picking up a GH 360 controller so I can finally play GH3.

I picked up:
:xbox: Panzer Dragoon Orta
:xbox:Gunvalkyrie
:ps2: TMNT 3: Mutant Nightmare
:ps2: Soul Reaver 2
:ps2: Street Fighter EX 3

New/sealed
:gba: Advance Guardian Heroes
:gba: Xevious

All the disc games are disc only.

I noticed they had a huge stack of those Generation NEX wireless controllers. Even at 50% off, they're still $20, and I can't really justify buying them.

It seems that there are no "plans" for anything at this point. Everything is last minute, no notice, without warning, etc. They literally had the DM show up at a couple stores 30 minutes before the store opened to tell the manager that they would be packing their stuff up and shipping it out that day instead of working the shift they had planned on working. As for the 80%, all the stores have signs for 80% and I'm sure it'll get there eventually, but it seems like a lot of stores will be closed by the time it happens.

In reference to the way the games were displayed, Chairman_LMAO, that was the company directive from the beginning. Make it look like a flea market. They wanted us to put every game we had out on the sales floor live and let people rummage. They didn't care about alphabetical order and didn't care if they were just in sleeves in a dump bin. Because you know that nothing screams "Buy me!" like a giant bin of crap that you have to sift through for an hour to see everything. That's way better than just displaying things in a way that doesn't look like crap and is actually organized.

As an amusing aside, here's an example of how dimwitted this company is. 200 stores are closing. All closing stores received a set of window vinyls to advertise the discount. The first one was a full-size "30% off all games" vinyl. The 50% and 80% signs were smaller and meant to simply stick over the previous discount rate, but all of our vinyls are separated into two pieces. The result is that every store got a vinyl with the number 50 on it, a vinyl with the number 80 on it, and two vinyls with a percent sign on it. The percent sign vinyls, of which 400 were ordered and paid for, are literally identical to what they will be covering and therefore serve absolutely no purpose. Way to waste just a little bit more money when you've already driven yourself nearly out of business and can barely afford to stay open.

I am getting bad vibes from the guy at the centreville location. He sits there and just gives shit away to the high school kids who just sit on top of the counter like they own the place.

I watched him as he put some games into some cases behind the counter. A customer comes in and asked about those games and he tells them they are empty. He won't answer questions about products. He also bragged that he was getting a 25 cents pay increase when he was heading to work for the gamestop in chantilly next week. so you know what kind of bad service your gonna get at chantilly now from this guy.

He did say 80% off on sunday. But after reading the stuff here I doubt anything will come of it.

Wow, good memory, but I guess it helps that you were the OP of that deal. Yeah, that was me, and I'm still in Nashville (I've moved a few times since then, but only local moves). That was almost 5 years ago - I just read through that thread again, nice little trip down memory lane, I remember driving through the snowstorm, lol. Before anyone who wasn't around then, or doesn't remember, complains about me hoarding 5 years ago, realize that I got them all for other CAGs (and 1 for my personal use). I can't really do that sort of thing (160 mile trip for games) any more (I probably shouldn't have done it then, either, lol).

Sorry for going off topic.

The two Crazies I was going to shut down early. Today was supposed to be their last day, but the guy working at Hollywood said they closed a few days early because they weren't selling enough at 50% off. They're going to send all the games to other stores (none in Chicago because they're all closing). The other one I went to was empty, and so was the Hollywood with it, which wasn't supposed to be closing. What a mess. There was a lot of games I wanted to pick up, but in typical Game Crazy fashion they just fuck everything up.

Check your stores, they might be doing the same thing. Get whatever games while you still can.

I hit one in the Chicago burbs and made out pretty well:

THESE ARE ALL SEALED!

mana khemia 10.00
Soul Nomad 15.00
Soul Nomad Guide 5.00
Metal saga 9.50
Onimusha Dawn of Dreams 9.50
Super DBZ 2.50
Tokobots 2.50

They will be open for another 3 weeks and will not go 80% off for at least 2 weeks. They just found out today, since they were scheduled to close tomorrow.

was informed 2 of my local gamecrazys will stay open a bit longer, like 2 weeks but are being run by hollywood video employess

still got a nice haul today

Growlanser Heritage of War LE set NEW 25.
Soul Nomad New 15
GrimGrimore 10

Went to the Old Bridge NJ store the other day. First, they are only at 50% off. Second, all games are disk only, which was a big disappointment. Had a pretty large selection still - only bought two dirt-cheap xbox naruto games that I've been itching for, but would have picked up a lot more if prices were 75% off or games came with a case/manual.

The store where I work last day for sales is TODAY. We never dropped to 80%. The first 2 weeks were 30%, and the last week was 50%. Its just a matter of time before the ones that are still open shut down. The reason the ones that are still open are being ran by Hollywood Video employees is because the people who were at Game Crazy were told their last day to be open would be today. Corporate didn't realize that people have LIVES and found other jobs and probably walked when they found out that stores were staying open for a week or two more. Not to mention that we got a memo Thursday or Friday saying all liquidation stores (that are staying open) are supposed to do a full inventory on Oct 28th and 29th. I said it before, and I'll say it again.....GAME CRAZY IS A SINKING SHIP. IF YOU'RE ON THAT SHIP, JUMP NOW!!!!

He's acting like that because no one who works at a liquidation store gives a shit anymore. Why should we?? The majority of customers we get are people who NEVER shopped at Game Crazy before. They're just hoping to come across a diamond in the rough and they're not gonna find it. All the good stuff was shipped before the liquidation even started. Even if there were anything left, we (the employees) stashed the stuff for us to purchase when everything went to 80% off (which it never did) If they shopped there prior to the store closings, maybe stores wouldn't be closing. I mean we don't give stuff away. We threw all the free stuff away to keep scavengers out. I answer questions, but not stupid questions like "Do you have any systems?" or "Do you have Madden 10.....or Borderlands?" "yeah you idiot......the company wants to sell one of the games that pretty much caused us to close for half off."

I called my local store, where I know the manager & he told me that the 26th was their last day. I was planning on stopping by tomorrow, don't really expect to find anything good (like that they're down to 80%) but I've been going pretty regularly for the past few months and feel like I should say goodbye.

This. It blows my mind.. absolutely fucking blows my mind that they asked and expected these employees to stay ANY amount of extra time. Like any of the employees would WANT to stay! The only ones staying are those that haven't found another job.

The following stores are closing in my area:

7135 S LAND PARK DR, SACRAMENTO, CA
7943 WATT AVE, ANTELOPE, CA
2310 SUNRISE BLVD, RANCHO CORDOVA, CA
7010 SUNRISE BLVD, CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA

actually went back to check the store on Palomar Street in Chula Vista, CA and found a lot of good games and picked up Formula One Championship Edition for $10 and will come back later for Elder Scroll Oblivion Game of the Year edition when its 80%

I know your frustrated working for a company heading towards bankruptcy but if your company was better at marketing themselves or did other things to give people a reason to be customers, they wouldn't be closing down so many stores. Retail works two ways.

Game Crazy pretty much lost me after they quit selling old school games and then closed down the two stores closest to me. It wasn't worth it for me to travel out of my way to shop at "Gamestop lite".

Just got back from my local store & he said no word of 80% or staying open. So today's the last day to get your dozens of copies of Kung Fu Panda & Lego Indy people.

I completely agree with your assessment of the company. This whole closing process is 100% their fault and can't be blamed on customers not shopping their enough or any other similar nonsense. The company failed time and time again and is suffering the consequences. I'm not being overly professional anymore, but the majority of my contempt is very clearly directed at the company as opposed to the customer. I tell it like it is, that the company is floundering about and doesn't seem to have a clue what's going on, they're jerking their employees around, and that makes it very difficult for us to answer simple and reasonable questions from customers.

That said, we do deal with a lot of REALLY stupid people and under the circumstances most of the employees are probably done dealing with it politely. If you walk into a store that has two humongous window viyls outside (one says "50% off all games" and the other says "This store closing"), you walk in and the shelves are nearly bare, the employee's response when you ask "Wow, what's going on in here?" is "This store is closing any day now," and you proceed to ask "Oh...so...Do you have any copies of Borderlands," you are an idiot. There is no getting around it, no explanation that could make you seem like less of a brain dead moron. And yet, on the day Borderlands came out, that exact scenario happened at my store at least 15 times. You can't expect a nice, polite, or non-sarcastic response at that point.

I asked an employee which stores in CA were closing and she said "all stores except for one in Baldwin Park".

I personally never had a problem with them and it sucks to see them go. Guess we'll all be seeing the "Circuit City Bankruptcy" effect at GameStop soon.

In my previous job I worked closely with our customers, so I do understand what you're talking about. The vast majority of customers weren't a problem at all. But you always get that one who ruins the whole day.

Yeah, we get plenty of decent people that come in and show genuine concern for us (they ask if we are able to transfer and keep our jobs rather than acting like the store closing is the best news they've ever heard because they can get a discount). Those people are great and we sincerely appreciate them and go out of our way to help them at my store. And we have plenty of people that come in to browse because of the signs but don't act like jackasses, and they're fine too. It's just the people that ask the same moronic questions every time that get on our nerves...
forgot all about gamecrazy closing sunday. o well.. went there last week and everything good was long gone... worker was a total idoit...
I'm so glad there's one less place for you to complain about, honestly.

About 3 weeks ago, my girlfriend and I drove to our nearest GC in San Diego and when we got there we were shocked to see that it had already been closed down. Not only GC but Hollywood Video as well. It sucked because we enjoyed going through there, rummaging through all the games and whatnot. AND the people working there were nicer than the ones at gamestop. Good luck to everyone that lost their jobs.

Well I just got word that after our store will remain open for another couple of weeks because of good sales, everyone but the manger is being let go because they want to bring other managers in to help with the sales......

Wait a minute, our store was doing well with the current staff...why let us go? I guess in hindsight, its not such a big deal not being able to work the last couple of weeks, but I am more upset as their reason and for the fact that we were just told we are no longer needed...Wow, what a way to thank us for our hard work. Corporate is a bunch of dicks!

I winded up picking up Dirge of Cerberus for 6.50 and Heavenly Sword for 15.00 before I left and turned my store keys in.

you still had store keys?

funny, teh guys at all the closing game crazy's here in Vegas had to turn them in the day they told them all that there store would be one of the closing ones.

Locked the front door and closed the gate and they have to enter and exit through hollywood (as does the customer now) with the hollywood staff having a key for the side entry gate.

Yeah, that makes more sense... I mean, if I found out so suddenly I was being let go, just like that, I might go on a little "shopping spree" of my own, if you know what I mean... 80% off, with a 20% employee discount? :D

Well, not really, but it's funny to think about. :p

That sounds like our company and is somehow not surprising. I guess I'm lucky because my manager already left and they don't really have anyone else to work. There are three remaining staff members, myself included, and two of them are leaving after this week no matter what. I'm thinking I might just not tell my DM and might just schedule myself for all seven days next week and get a nice 20 hours of overtime. Not like I care if I work open to close each day, and it'd be a nice way to go out.

Out of curiosity, had you guys seen your DM at all since the store closing announcement? We haven't seen ours once. He hasn't even called us about anything and has pretty much refused to help on anything, including important stuff that he needs to help out with.
Not at all....funny huh. Well it is what it is....I just thought we deserved better.
Yeah, I've been working with the company for a year and a half and I've felt that way since I started. The company just screws employees at every possible turn. There have been four or five stores (a couple HV and a couple GC) in my district that have had a DM show up 30 minutes before open to tell the manager that they were not going to be open that day because they were sending everything out to other stores so they can close up. It's just completely absurd that they treat employees like this and just ditch them at the last minute.

And of course, most employees have to go along and help close the place down because they don't have another job so they need the unemployment. It's a really sad thing to see happen. Personally, I'd be furious and in all likelihood I would tell my DM off and just leave regardless of the unemployment issue.

It is just infuriating. I hope this company is dead by summer. The way things are going, it wouldn't surprise me a bit. Actually, I'd be more surprised if they WEREN'T dead by summer...

so any word if 80% actually going to happen? My local game crazy said they will be open until 31st but said they didn't know anything about 80%, i might just go back and pick up Oblivion Game of the Year if there won't be 80%

That's about where we're at. We were told at the end of last week to make a schedule for this week and we'd go from there. We were told they didn't have a definite closing date, and that even if we make the schedule through the 31st we weren't guaranteed to be open till then. As for the discount, I think they're trying to prevent people from waiting for 80% so I think we'll find out about 80% the morning that it happens. I don't think there just won't be 80% at all, but a lot of stores will probably be closed before it happens.

This was standard procedure. I'm surprised you had store keys at this point.

Our store closed today with short notice due to a couple of shady employees and their bad practices. *sigh* Though their are a few liquidation stores left going and the 80% is rumored to hit Monday, but I would call first and verify if your store is still open first.
