September 14, 2006?

Who says you can't have a tour promoting a product that is on the shelf? People play it at the event, leave and hit up Wal-Mart to buy one. Not that unusual.

For the last time, the launch is going to be in November. As much as everyone would like a "surprise launch" Nintendo simply CAN'T suddenly announce to 3rd Party developers they they better finish everything up in 3 weeks.

Unless, of course, they've known for months and have been NDA'ed to death about it.

Not much news at all, but it does make me excited about the possibilities Nintendo has opened up...

Castlevania On Wii?
Iga talks about the Belmont brood and Nintendo's not-next-gen next-gen system.
by IGN Staff
September 6, 2006 - Back at E3 we spoke to Castlevania's main man, Koji Igarashi to talk about Portrait of Ruin, the anticipated sequel to Dawn of Sorrow, on the Nintendo DS.

At that time Iga was understandably skeptical about how comfortable it would be to use a Wii-mote to whip for hours. Specifically, he said "I'm very interested in the Wii hardware, and I'm attending a Nintendo presentation in Japan, as well as a Nintendo press conference this week. I realize that the Wii market is casual gamers, that are looking forward to a short game experience and I hardly doubt that with the Castlevania style, they'll all sit down and want to play for multiple hours or even a day. Also, I just really can't think of any good ideas. My thought is that a Castlevania game doesn't fit very well with it unfortunately. But maybe when I go back to Japan I might come up with some brilliant idea, and I'll try to think of the possibilities."

Recently, Nintendo's European site printed an interview with Iga from the German Games Convention. Now, Iga has some news for those interested in seeing Castlevania come to the Wii. When asked if he'd given further thought to the idea Iga replied, "We still can't think about anything other than this DS version because we are so busy, but of course we would like to think of something interesting and pleasant for Wii. I have some ideas for Castlevania for Wii."

That's a juicy tease for fans of the series.

One thing that angers me is his comment on casual gamers. I understand the Wii is trying to get more casual gamers to play, but there are tons of hardcore fans out there who would put 20 hours into a Castlevania game. Why do so many people think that Nintendo's systems are for quick games? Maybe it's NIntendo's fault, but I for one love lengthy games.

It's rather foolish to say that the system is for casual gamers, particularly those looking for quick gaming experiences, when he's putting games on the DS, which is a portable, which inherently implies quick gaming experiences.

It's just one more hurdle that Nintendo will have to work to overcome. Zelda will help. Not thinking that one needs to use the Wiimote to use a whip will also help. People will need to be creative to make games for the Wii. It's a lot to ask of game developers. :D

I agree. It can't be too hard for developers to create a control for the wiimote that can be turned on and off. The whip ability would be amazing and would (in my opinion) make the best use of the wiimote to date, but I understand that it could be tiresome, so certainly it can't be difficult to have the ability to change the command to the "a" button.

New rumor

- Wii console/plugs etc
- Two Wii-motes and nunchuck accessories
- A copy of Wii Sports / a multiplayer title of some kind
- Possibility of an S/D memory card to store data bundled in as well.

Someone's been posting that bullshit around the internets for a couple days now, claiming it to come from IGN Insider. It doesn't. It's just bullshit someone made up.
This hasn't been brought up recently, but do you think the price of the games will be revealed on the 14?
I thought it was pretty much confirmed that a "normal" Wii game will retail for $49.99?
I thought it was pretty much confirmed that a "normal" Wii game will retail for $49.99?
oh, news to me.
I thought it was pretty much confirmed that a "normal" Wii game will retail for $49.99?
Well, I hope Nintendo doesn't expect to get more than $49.99 for a Wii game.

First party games will not be more than 49.99. Third parties can charge whatever they want, though they'll be crazy to charge over $50.
I think it will be just like the 360, first party games will be $50 and third will be $60.
I'm going the opposite direction. First party ~ $39.99, Third party ~ $49.99

No, it won't.

Its nice to dream and all but look at DS games for the example. I will say that most will probably be First party $49 and thrid at 44 or 39.
does anyone know if the news people will be allow to spill the beans afterwards or do they have to sign NDAs?
The purpose of a press conference is to get information out, not keep it a secret. NDA stuff is told behind closed doors. This event is the equivelent of Nintendo making an announcment at E3 or similar venue.
Do you think Japan will only reveal region-specific details? Like the Japan price and release date, and Not the US price and release date.
That's what I'm betting on (why else would they throw 3 seperate conferences), but we'll still get information that's relevant to us.

-What's in the box.
-Launch titles (they can't differ THAT much)
-Approximate date + price (see above)

Indeed!! My excitement level has really spiked, going from "Eff All This Waiting and Shenanigans.. Eff it in the A!" to "Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy!"

Isn't it the other way around? I thought third-party titles are more expensive than the first-party counterparts.
Why are the press conferences 6-7 hours long?
I think the press conference itself is only scheduled for an hour, then 5 or 6 hours of Wii gaming.
Erm...no. Today's Tuesday, not Wednesday.
You have to read that page. It explains that today can be Tuesday for us, but also Wednesday for Japan, depending on time of day. Which I also explained in the other thread about the conferences.

Just kidding, I somehow misread 'tommorow' as 'today'. I had a long day :)
