KaneRobot, thanks for posting the pics. Your post is the only one I could find a pic of what Sting's new outfit was.
I have more at home from his entrance and stuff, I'll put them up after work.

Weird, looks like a mesh of surfer sting(the tights), Wolfpack Sting(tight colors and the red face paint) and the regular Sting.
Yeah, it was pink neon surfer Sting meets Crow Sting. Kind of a strange combo, but, hey, the colors woked for Bret Hart.

That's funny, I've always thought of surfer Sting as "regular Sting." The times are a changin'....I feel old. Your "regular Sting" is what I'd think of as "Crow Sting."

If I remember right, this isn't the first time Sting's been NWA world champion. Wasn't he a NWA world champion back when WCW had it?
Yeah, he won it in July 1990 from Flair. However, this IS the first time that Sting has won that particular belt (the old-school NWA one). When he beat Flair, he received the big gold belt similar to Booker T's current title. It is kind of cool that Sting finally got to wear that belt.
Oh, Jesus; this confounds even me. He first became champion after Turner bought Jim Crockett promotions and renamed it World Championship Wrestling (up until that point, "World Championship Wrestling" was the name of the NWA program on TBS).

The NWA, however, was a collectivity of regional promoters; the NWA and WWF/WWWF titles were, I believe, the most prestigious belts because they were defended over a large number of regional promotions (NWA more). Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes and the like would work as the NWA champ for a spell, then move onto another region, and so on, taking the belt with them. It was a symbol that "Mr. Big fucking Deal" was coming to your town. It was Black Sabbath coming to your town, with local acts opening up for them - you came out to see the show when the champ came through.

Short story long, the NWA kept the NWA belt after WCW came into being (keep in mind, when WCW became WCW, it was no longer associated with the NWA). The NWA title shrunk in presitge and was defended around various smalltime promotions in the northeast in the early-mid 1990s. Remember Shane Douglas, the birth of ECW, and the "Night the Line Was Crossed"? He won a tournament to become the NWA champion, then tossed the same belt Sting now has to the ground, symbolically burying the past.

So, the NWA never went away, it just fell into obscurity. I *think* (and may be wrong) that the belt we know as the "big gold belt" was introduced by WCW as their new world heavyweight championship as they ceased being the NWA. It wasn't used until the Flair/Sting feud of the early 1990's. Again, my memory is really hazy here.

It doesn't help that Flair took off for the WWF with the belt. WCW panicked and gave Ravishing Rick Rude a WCW tag title, calling it the "WCW Championship." Later, after Ric finished his cup of coffee with McMahon, he came back to WCW with the big gold belt, and they had the "WCW Champion" (Rude, or Vader, or Ron Simmons, or someone) and the "World Heavyweight Champion" (Flair) at the same fucking time. Very confusing.

Anyway, after Shane Douglas killed what was already dead (the NWA belt and legacy), it sunk even lower, being defended in shithole northeast wrestling promotions. IIRC, Steve Corino was the NWA champion for a number of years after ECW folded, and he was in between stints in Japan.

EDIT: Jeff Jarrett (I think) came to the WWF in 1996-7 as the NWA champion during a stupid fucking NWA/WWF angle with Jim Cornette at the forefront. Remember the "New Midnight Express"?

Shit, if you really want to follow title histories, the AWA title is still out there. I think Evan Goddamned Karagias might have it.

It's interesting to consider pro wrestling title histories. If you recall Ultimo Dragon's 8 or 9 lightweight titles that he held simultaneously, one of them was the old WWF Light Heavyweight championship; the WWF stopped defending and tracking it, and it made its way to Japan, where he won it (this is an earlier title than the one they brought back in the mid 90's to hype TAKA Michinoku). Funny seeing a WWF title on WCW TV back then. I wonder why they never sued.
impressive. youve earned yourself a clap :applause:

wiki says:

The current champion is Sting, in his second reign. He defeated Jeff Jarrett with the Scorpion Death Lock at Bound for Glory 2006. The last day Sting held the NWA world heavyweight title was on January 11, 1991 when he lost to Ric Flair. That means Sting went 15 years, 9 months and 11 days. That would round out to approximately 5510 days since he last held the belt. That’s the longest time span between title reigns in NWA history.

Speaking of Ric Flair having the WCW title on WWF TV back then, does anyone know where to find a clip with him showing that? All the one's I found have him using a WWF Tag belt instead and saying "he's the real world champion".

Didn't know the AWA title is still out there. If Karagias has it, that's pretty damn sad. There's a reason why WWE picked up the other 2 members of 3 count(Helms & Moore) and not him.

As for the Light Heavyweight title, didn't know they had created the title that long ago. I just thought it was something they introduced in '97 to compete with WCW's Cruiserweight title(BTW, I love that WWE ditched their own title and went with WCW's when they bought them out).

Myke, I have a tape of No Way Out '98 & couple old Raws from back then. Jeff Jarrett had a NWA title, but WWF announced him as the "NWA North American Champion". It was right before he got the haircut and started wearing the "Don't Piss Me Off" shirt.

Man, the WWF had "ladies' tag championship" belts, so they have a lot of stuff you and I don't remember. Hell, even WCW/NWA had 6-man tag titles.

Looking over the stuff at Wiki, I'm not as right as I thought. WCW was part of the NWA until 1993 or so (well after the Sting/Flair feud). The NWA wanted the champion to work NWA shows, and WCW balked (Imagine Hulk Hogan working a crowd of 200 at a barn in Missouri! ); wikipedia has more.

Sting held the NWA belt pre-WCW and in TNA. This is the first time he held the Domed Globe version of the title. I'll say what I did on the DVDVR board about those shots - the Angle, Jarrett, and Sting pics are stunning. WCW and the NWA parted ways during the Flair-Rude feud, which was for the NWA title, and was then changed to just being "for the BIG GOLD BELT" when shit went down.

Excellent photos, KaneRobot! Great post, Myke! :)

Also, about the jacket Sting wore to the ring... I can't remember exactly, but isn't that the jacket he shows on his DVD? It's one of the first ones he had, if I'm not mistaken.

Didn't see a Women's Tag Title listing, but did see a Ladies Cruiserweight title. WTF? Is that for the women that are not the size & weight of Bertha Faye?

That Six Man Tag Title is a joke, much like Cruiserweight Tag Team Title(which is essentially what the WWE Tag Team title has become).

As for the NWA wanting the champion in matches in small towns, I can see why WCW split off. Can you just see Hogan doing a promo in a barn saying "Hulkamania is running wild in this barn, brother".

I bought my tickets for December to Dismember this past Saturday. Here's hoping it doesn't suck. I'm definitely holding the PPV to a higher standard than the weekly show.

I'm hoping since it's after Survivor Series, that it'll include a ECW title match where *gasp* The Big Show actually loses the belt.

Seems like they only put it on him since they needed to take it off RVD in a hurry after getting busted for pot possession. Now they really don't know what to do with the title.

WCW had a women's cruiserweight title - WWE never did. They actually did a tourney on Woldwide for it flying in a bunch of people. God, what a waste of money that turned out to be.

So far just the two (One Night Stand and December to Dismember) along with the tri-brand shows. If this show does good, I hope they move it into a better slot next year and change the name to one of their bigger shows -- a rebirth of November to Remember, Heatwave, or Anarchy Rulz would be fine by me.

I can see them using December to Dismember to replace N2R. Hardore Homecoming basically brought it back last year (Novemeber Reign... TO REMEMBER). I'm amazed that WWE didn't sue them for that name.

Eh, that's personally the only one I wouldn't want to see come back because of how special it was for them. To each his own though.

Ok, here we go. I fucking deleted four or five shots from pre-Monsters Ball on accident...mostly Team 3D/NAO pics so no big loss, but one of them was a really cool shot of Bubba and D-Von coming out. Oh well. Salvaged one NAO pic but it wasn't that great.

Here are (most of) the others...the pic I mentioned earlier of Sting's outfit is second to last:
Well...

I turned RAW on.

I saw K-Fed.

I turned RAW off.
Get this shitbag assfuck off my tv right now WWE.

Are you fucking serious?!?! One week was bad enough, but 2 weeks straight of him on WWE? This is dangerously close to being a full-blown angle.
Put the title on him!
Cena vs Big Show vs King Booker vs K-Fed for all three belts at Cyber Sunday.

BOOK IT!

I personally go to wwe.com for all my music reviews and will be picking up three copies just like Estrada.
Randy Orton: Kevin Federline’s "America’s Most Hated" is a legend in the making. Who would know a legend better than me? It was my destiny to become the youngest World Heavyweight Champion of all time, and it’s my destiny to take out DX once and for all. K-Fed? Let’s just say it’s his destiny to be the greatest selling rap artist of all time.

 I wonder how much Orton threw up in his mouth saying that.

This better be the last time we see White Trash on WWE, he was smiling the whole way up the ramp, even after he tripped and fell. Way to fucking sell it dumbass.

I'm sure few will agree with me, but...at least K-Fed is better on the mic than people like Nitro...not that I enjoy seeing him on my tv, but at least he's a step up from David Arquette ;)
Goddamn that was harsh.
Well, it was WrestleCrap *well* before the WWE had anything to say about it.

Yeah, Scott Hall was the "Diamond Studd" in early 90's WCW. He even wore rhinestone-encrusted overalls (with one strap down, as was the style at the time - if you watched Kew Kids on the Block videos).

SJ, Raw tonight hasn't been anything terribly offensive or bothersome. It's not bad or great; the matches haven't been anything worth praising or panning, and the only dreadful thing I recall was Johnny Nitro talking like he was a 15-year old mallrat.

I'm more or less interested in seeing what matches are announced for Cyber Sunday. (I don't care who you vote for in the Umaga match, as long as it isn't Kane - I'd be pleased to see Benoit or Sandman).

Though I implore you to pick Shelton Benjamin as Hardy's opponent.

It seems like Triple H has a mutated gene which produces plenty of water-spit for his entrance... anyone?

Edit: Wow, Randy Orton can hold a pose

wow angle has wrestled terkay?

In the course of his amateur career, Angle faced several future mixed martial artists, defeating Sylvester Terkay and losing to Mark Coleman and Mark Kerr.
