For anybody seeking outrageous amounts of storage space for their PS3, Newegg's PM Shell Shocker today is a Western Digital 640GB HDD for $120.

And for anybody who needs them, here are tutorials for replacing the HDD in your Slim and Fat.

How difficult is it to swap out drives on the average laptop?

Not at all Look at the manufactures website, the sata ones are very easy.

I have a 320 GB hard drive in my PS3.
I have about
3 years worth of pictures (I travel a lot, so it's a ton of pics),
about 20-30 albums of music (which I rarely use because there STILL isn't custom tracks in game),
about 90 full length movies,
about 8-10 seasons of random tv shows,
about 50-60 demos
and installs and game saves for a good 20 games.

After all this, I have about 40GB left and it nearly scared the crap out of me when I saw this. I guess I can delete tons of stuff I don't use when the space gets low, but if you think 640GB is impossible to fill, its not. I used to think 320GB would never fill up.

The 320GB I bought for ~$60 around last Black Friday is at newegg for $58 with free shipping. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136197 with near perfect ratings. I think this holiday season it should be around $40-45 sooner than later.

Not talking trash, dattomcat, if you are looking for hella hard drive, this is pretty good. 500GB was the largest drive for what seemed like a long time.

I'm not sure if it is allowed to be discussed here, because you are starting to infringe on asking how to pirate media, so I'll be careful with wording ;)

The PS3 can handle...

VIDEO
•MPEG-1
•MPEG-2 (PS,TS)
•H.264/MEPG-4 AVC
•MPEG-4 SP

MUSIC
•ATRAC (.oma .msa .aa3)
•AAC (.3gp .mp4)
•MP3 (.mp3)
•WAV (.wav)

IMAGES
•JPEG
•GIF
•PNG
•TIFF
•BMP

All you have to do, is on your computer 'back up' the discs into that format. You can then either transfer them on flash media, or if you have a Media Server setup (possibly some other network configs, but I can't confirm) you can just select the file from there and choose to copy it over.

Forums such as Afterdawn would be a good source to do some reading if you need help. Otherwise, unless I'm told otherwise, I doubt we'd be allowed to offer much more advice here.

That's actually the exact drive I ordered on Saturday for my brand new Slim. I was considering 500GB, but decided I really didn't need that much space, so 640GB was obviously ruled out too. I won't be using my Slim as a multimedia device (that's the role my laptop fills), and I only wanted more than the stock 120GB because I wanted to be sure I have enough space for those games that require you to install a portion of them onto your HDD.

REMINDER TO EVERYONE: SHELL SHOCKERS ARE [usually] 1 DAY ONLY, AND THIS ONE WILL BE ENDING IN A FEW HOURS.
