Not a bad price for a new copy if you can't find it in store.

Good news: You can safely buy it without having played the first one, since it comes with a DVD of the first game's cinematics.

Bad news: It includes many of the useless cinematics.
"Excuse me, have you seen men in black cars?"
"No."
"Have you seen men in black cars?"
"I haven't, but she might have."
"Have you seen men in black cars?"
"Nope, not recently."
Etc.

Better news: It's a great game. Buy it.

I have shenmue 2 for the DC, but how extensive is the shenmue dvd? Does it play through the ENTIRE 1st game? If so, I may pick this up just for something to watch. Love this series!!

it is like an hour long. I watched 10 minutes of it, and made sure I went back and finished the first game because it bored me to tears.

EDIT: Though just because the DVD was boring does not mean I do not like Shenmue. I love the series

At the way the previous poster was talking about how it talks about minor details (black car) I figured it would be really long. How dissapointing.

I got a new copy of the Xbox version free after a mail in rebate a little while back and ended up selling it because the voice acting was terrible. The game is absolutely phenomenal though... actually, I sold it because the Dreamcast version from Europe is superior thanks to the original Japanese voice acting which doesn't kill the game... (and because the DC version has better colors). If you can't get the European Dreamcast version, I'd say get this though since you NEED this game.

I have the PAL version as well. It's awesome.

if im not mistaken, it is just all the cut scenes from the first one put together to make the story.

if anyone was bored watching it, what the hell were you expecting?

I thought the voice acting was hilarious! Same for Resident Evil one. That was part of the joy for me playing Shenmue.

I happen to be one of the lucky ones who snatched this from EB when it cleared out for $.01. Strange that it's back up to $9.99... but that's EB for you!

I really liked Shenmue 1, but I didn't like 2 at all. It was harder to find your way around, the maps were useless, and money was MUCH harder to come by. The whole thing was much more frustrating than engrossing.

You mean we can't select the original japanese with subtitles?

It didn't have nearly all of the cutscenes and they had a lot of cuts to the scenes they used. If I'm not mistaken, they actually called this a movie played it in Japanese theaters a few year ago.

Nope. I own both versions. I bough the PAL version while in London, and it is definitely the better version to own. The Xbox game is entirely in English and the Japanese voiceover is unavailable.

I picked up the Xbox version thinking it might play smoother w/ less loading times tnan the PAL one on my DC, but the voice acting is so bad that the DC version easily outdoes this one hands down.

While $10 is certainly not bad for this game, if you can, I recommend paying the extra $30-$50 and picking up the PAL game (and a GameShark to play it). I think much of the mediocre response for Shenmue 2 on Xbox was born out of the terrible, lifeless voice acting.

1) If you really have no clue where to go, ask someone. Chances are they'll either give you directions or guide you.

2) Ohh...kay. I can't think of anything to help you.

3) Gamble with Big or Small at the downstairs parlor at the harbor. Max bet, bet on Big. Save if you win, reload if you don't.

Yeah, that would be well and good, if the people didn't walk at 1 mile per hour. I did that once, "Sure, come with me!", and a mere 45 minutes later I was at my destination. Rest assured, I never asked anybody again.

Yeah, that save/reload if you lose bit, that gets old fast. Having to do that stuff is just an indication of a poorly designed game.

I still have yet to play Shenmue II... heh.. bougth the PAL version on discount at gamestop (when they were bringing in import DC games and then trying to get rid of them)... probably the second best import purchase I've made in terms of buying an import at a US retailer and then seeing it skyrocket in price... the best... Radiant Silvergun... bought it at EB in a mall for $14.99...
I bought this for $20 - and I don't even own an Xbox - and I never will, but I'll always find a way to support the Shenmue series any way I can.
bless you sir, if someone does not pick this up. the worlds best game ever then...nothing is going to happen to you just support them please. they work really hard to make this game :-({|= really awesome game and should still sell for 50. IMHO
