Should I Get A PSP?

KMunley

CAGiversary!
I was about to buy myself a PSP, but then I heard a lot of rumors about the PSP2 coming out before christmas. That made me want to wait to hear more information.

However, I read that the PSP2 may be anywhere from 500-700 bucks. I would not dish that much out for a portable system.

Also, if the PSP2 comes out i'm assuming the PSP would drop in price(?)

So If anyone has any knowledge of the PSP2 in regards of release date or pricing that would really help me decide if I should get a PSP.

The psp2 rumors are strictly that...rumors. Plus I on't know where your pulling a $700 price tag from, when its launched the psp2 will cost $300 at the max, Remeber this is Sony we are talking about. Yes they are a secretive company, but they also like to flaunt their stuff well before it's reelase. we willl hear an offical anounement on the "psp2" at the very least a year before its released.

As for pricing I don't know where whoever you got the $700 price tag from. pull that from their asses. Thats nearly the lauch price of the ps3, and in order to even santion that price an a tecnical basis it will have to be the single most advanced pice hand held tech on the market, witch wont happen. I expect the psp2 to have a launch price between $300-350, with a psp price drop following about 6 months latter.

Get the psp and enjoy it, there are loads of good games comming out this summer, and you'll be missing out if you dont.

There is absolutely no way the PSP2 will launch in the 500-700 dollar range. None.

Personally I had a PSP 1000 and 2000 and sold them both and am now considering getting a new one. Since I beat almost every game on the system I wanted to play I'm in no rush so I am going to go ahead and wait for an E3 announcement to materialize. I recommend you do the same as it sounds like you're interested in a possible PSP2.

if you like the games the psp has to offer, go buy one. i think those rumors are still rumors. no way am i buying a portable console for $500.

Why don't you just wait for E3? It's about two months away; the games aren't going to spoil on the shelves in the meantime. *IF* they announce a PSP2, you can decide which one to get, and if they don't, you can safely pick up a "regular" PSP confident you won't need to upgrade for at least another year.

I thought about this as well. Then Dell had a deal for a PSP 2000 for $135, so I just got one. The thing is, I have a burning desire to play a lot of the games on PSP right now, the earliest we will see a new PSP is December I'd say (although Ive heard rumors about Fall, but meh) and it will be more expensive. So even if I only play my PSP for a year, I'm perfectly happy with that. Also, Im sure there will be some trade-in deal to get a PSP4000/PSP2 for cheaper, like they did with the DSLite and DSi at some stores.

AND there may be an incentive to just keep your PSP1. For instance, no B/C on PS3 means theres an incentive to keep my PS2 and not just trade it in. Its been said that the PSP4000/PSP2 most likely wont use UMDs, so all those games you get USED for PSP on eBay etc won't work. (Unless of course they devise a way to play them...etc..etc..)

Basically, I'm saying go for it, unless you are extremely patient and want to wait until E3 and then find out, most likely, you will be waiting until Christmas or "TBA 2010" for a PSP4000/PSP2

Wait for E3 or jump on the Dell deal at $135 or CALL your local radio shacks! I got mine at Radio Shack for $120, and supposedly God of War bundles are $130 if they still have them. I'm sure even with a PSP 2 announcement you could sell a barely used PSP 2000 for just around $120ish so you would just be "renting" the PSP in a sense.

Also if rumors are indeed true the PSP2 won't have a UMD drive, so unless they are going to make all PSP1 titles downloadable (and of course cheap, as in real cheap) you could still benefit from buying a PSP1 and buying a lot of games on eBay real cheap or through other unmentionable means.

I just got a PSP and out of the 14 games on my wishlist none of them hover above $14 shipped except for Disgaea and Portable Ops at this point.

But if you can wait I would ultimately wait out the two months and have something else keep you busy.

go for the PSP now get a 3000 or try to get a cheap 2000 but the 3000 makes a good starter bundle and it is much brighter (i own a 1000, 2000, and 3000) i got the psp the day it came out and like it just as much i did when i first got it, i think it is a very wise investment

Yeah thats the problem I'm very impatient. I think I will try my best to wait for E3, but like Monsta mack said about radio shack, if I find that deal I'm jumping on it. Thanks a lot fellas.

Like others have said Sony may make an announcemnt in June but the release won't be immediately. I bought my PSP 3000 a few weeks ago and if/when the PSP2 or 4000 or whatever is released then I'll give my 3000 to my nephew and pick up the new model for moi.

I might be selling my original PSP 1000 with a few games. Works great, I just don't use it as I am not a portable gamer....PM me if interested

Again if you want to save money seeing your on CAG, you can get pretty much every PSP game under $20 shipped. The only three that are on my list now that are above 20 used and complete from eBay:
Phantasy Star Portable, Prinny complete with bonuses and Disgaea Portable (but It comes pretty close to being around $21 or $22). I'm sure once Phantasy Star and Prinny are both on the market longer they will drop. If you can find a new copy of Disgaea It's $30 new making it the most I would pay for a PSP game anyways.

You are looking for answers only the powers at SCEA could answer.

What's wrong with the current PSP? If you want it now, why would you not want it when/if the PSP2 comes out? Does the PSP suddenly stop working when PSP2 comes out?

Wait for E3. You're gonna shoot yourself in the foot knowing you could have waited a couple months for either news on the PSP2 or PSP4000. If nothing gets announced then I say go for it and get a 2000 or 3000 but imo waiting just a little while longer will help you make the best possible choice.

So what if there is "News" even if their is a psp 4000 it wont be anything so spatacular that your going wish you waited. And on the off chance a psp 2 is announced, It wont be out this year, and when it IS released GS will have a promotion where yuo can trade in your psp and get a good ammount of credit towards a psp2.
