should i join the pc side?
That's incorrect.

Blizzard still gives out DLC and host FAN MADE DLC for free for all of their games.

StrategyFirst, Maxis, Bioware, Firaxis, Bethesda and many many more also give out content all the time.
Blizzard does not have any recent examples of them giving out free DLC - WoW doesn't cont since the subs pay for the "free" content. As I recall, Blizzard is going to be charging people for "premium player created maps" in Starcraft 2 anyways.

Bethesda has not given anything away for free on Fallout 3, their most recent game. All 5 DLC's were made to be purchased either via retail disk or GFWL. Hell, Bethesda was even charging for content since Oblivion on the PC.

Most of your examples were sub 2009, when free DLC was the norm, but look around at how many of the big names charge for content now. Firaxis hasn't made a game in awhile, who is to say their next game they won't go the Creative Assembly route?

When has Bioware EVER given out free content? Bring Down the Sky for PC players? We still had to buy the second DLC. Still have to buy Warden's Keep (if you don't have the deluxe versions), and you still have to buy Return to Ostagaar. You will definitely have to buy all the Mass Effect 2 content, same as the console versions. And yes, I know they give away some content if you buy it, but it's the same deal the console players do and it's just to entice new sales, it's not out of the kindness of their heart.

Maxis very rarely gives away items for Sims 3, but it's hardly worth a mention as this is the same company that wants us to buy content on the Sims 3 store, expansion packs, AND stuff packs. And this is coming from someone who has played a ton of Sims 3, and owns a good deal of content for it.

Yes, sub 2009, lots of content was free, but the PC is very quickly shifting over to a paid DLC scheme similar to the consoles. Like I said earlier, many indie and smaller devs give out free content, but many of the bigger names have stopped. (Which is one of the many reasons I support indie devs as much as I can)

I can guarantee that 3 of the biggest names in PC gaming in the first quarter will all use paid DLC. Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2 (I believe they said DLC is coming), and Napoleon Total War will all have paid DLC and not much in the way of free, except for the bonus everyone gets for new copies of ME 2.

Hell, it's almost a given Supreme Commander 2 will get paid DLC since it's integrated into Steamworks. The only reason Demigod has free DLC is because they had problems getting a paid DLC interface to work through Impulse, as Oculus was supposed to be a test run for paid content. Brad Wardell himself has mentioned they are working on getting a DLC system active on Impulse for things of this nature. So charging for DLC is something that Chris Taylor and GPG want, but couldn't do with Impulse.

I am a huge PC gamer, but the writing is on the wall, paid DLC is (sadly) the future for PC's.

If the consumers allow it. Personally, those companies practicing this method won't see a dime of mine.
That ones that I posted above are comparable. Like I said before I think most ppl just want a commercial attached to a product in a way to sort of keep up with the jones.

If they are not 'comparable' define the parameters.

SF4, Blazblue and Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom all have PC verisons.
Parameters: PS3 and XBox360. If you want to talk about LAST gen games, then your list would be appropriate. Present gen? LoL Not comparable.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom doesn't have a PC version nor is it announced.

You're also mistaking DLC for mods.

That does not make much sense since those system also release older games for sale too like Marvel vs Capcom and such.

What are the actual parameters of the content being discussed?

If we are going say things like 'must contain Ryu or Ken' then yeah it's out but hoping this discourse is a little more better than that...What characteristic of the game are we looking for to list.

Yeah, so PS1 games released on PSN is present gen to you. Makes sense! :roll:Get real with the parameters, it's not that difficult to figure out.

Sad. You're just proving my point. Instead of listing a guideline with which to go by you just stating anything with a commercial release.

I don't drink kool aid. The fighting games I listed - which were a small sample - the rest you can find in the other link I posted previous within this thread are a few of the PC fighting games released in 2009. I don't follow conformist ideals simply because a commercial tells me to. So if you have nothing positive of progressive to add...Go press X :)

I don't know what you mean by parameters, those games looked better than I was expecting but if you told people those games where from PS2/PS1 games they would probably believe. They don't have the nice shiney graphics that other PC games have or that even some of the current gen fighters have.
How ever you quantify nice graphics, these fighting games don't have 360/ps3 level nice graphic quantity.
Not since 2009 since Steam rolled out its DLC plan, and Games for Windows Live hit in full force. The days of PC gamers getting the same DLC for free the console people pay for is very, very much over - the only company I can still see doing it is Valve.

But Borderlands, Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, Modern Warfare 2, Empire Total War, SF 4 (I think), and Hearts of Iron 3 all had / will have paid DLC. If Bioshock 2 gets DLC, we'll get charged because it uses GFWL.
I don't see DLC being successful on the PC I think it will just be a gateway to pirating. Unless you have on insanely popular multiplayer game I don't think DLC is going to be beneficial to the companies.
If you are talking about expansion packs(which seems to be most of the "DLC") I think that's a diffrent story as PC games have had toughs for years, and I don't expect expansion packs for free.

Parameters can be the type of game - Fighting 2D or 3D.
Parameters can be the type of graphic tech used - Cell shaded, 3D background, motion blur...so on.
Parameters can be game mechanics - 1 vs 1, 2v2, simultaneous, turn taking and so on.

There are a great many PC games that never get 'coverage' and it's not because they are buggy or what not - It's because they are made by small time developers. Or sometimes they come big time developers like Capcom but with no PC marketing.

Blazblue is on the PC. It's actually been on the PC for abit in Japan but finally came over to the PC in America.

Personally, I get my games from all over. I also don't need a commercial or happy meal promotion to tell me to give a game a shot.

I don't think any of those distinguish between the graphical difference of the last gen and current gen.

Well it's not really about what you want, If someone just wanted to play the best looking fighters I would tell them to go the console route as the consoles have a wider selection fighters with current gen graphics and they are easier to find.
