Should I trade in a DSi for the 3ds?

I literally JUST bought a DSi for $60 on eBay, but now I'm debating if its worth keeping with the 3ds out. Gamestop currently has a tradein where you get $60 for the DSi towards a 3ds. Should I trade it in or just wait till holidays/blackfriday and keep the dsi? I do have numerous normal DS games I want to play, and I also have a vita (dont troll, I like my vita.)

Opinions?

I was an early adopter of the 3ds and I did not enjoy having it. Gamestop was surprised that someone traded in a newly released console a week after it released. There are quite a bit of interesting games like metal gear and Mario. I would wait it out. We are due for a redesigned 3ds. Maybe then it would be feasible. Hope this helps!

I personally love my 3ds (bought it first day), and there are a lot of great games already out and coming soon, but like the person above said, there might be a redesign soon. It's really up to you. 3ds plays all ds games (except a couple that really the dsi can't play either because of lack of gba slot). So, it's really up to you.

In my honest opinion, scrap it now and get 3DS.

I was just playing my 3DS today and was just thinking how great the 3D aspect is. Think of it this way. You get a 3DS now and when the holidays come around, buy up a lot of 3DS games for 5 bucks. That's what I did to build up my collection.

In the next couple of months there's going to be some good 3DS games coming out. If money isn't much of an issue I'd just upgrade now and enjoy it. Hell, we might be dead in 6 months. Live fast.

I also own a vita. It's a great device!

My suggestion would be to wait for the redesigned 3DS. I like the 3DS and I've enjoyed having it, but I have a lot of complaints with its current design based on my experience with the system.

First off, let me say that the 3D functionality doesn't interest me. It gives me a migraine -- so I leave it disabled. I don't believe this is any fault of the system, but with my eyes.

With that said, the slider for the 3D functionality doesn't have any type of lock or 'click' position to keep it turned off. So nearly everytime I go to turn on my system, I have to slide it back down. Not really all that inconvenient, but after doing it for the 500th time, my brain automatically thinks "WHY IS THERE NO LOCK?!?!"

Then there's the issue with the size of the system. I don't have big hands, but still, the system feels tiny to me and hard to grip. When the gameplay gets furious (SFIV multiplayer), I have a really difficult time pulling off combos and keeping hold of the system at the same time. I purchased a bigger battery (because the stock battery really blows) and it added some depth to the system. It helps a little, but not much.

The position of the cross directional pad is in a really awkward position and cramps my thumb.

There's also these little knobs on the bottom of the system that I'm guessing would act like feet if you were to sit the system down on a table. Between clenching the system to make sure it doesn't fall out of my hands and positioning my thumb to reach that awkward d-pad location, those little feet will nearly rub blisters on my fingers that hold the system from underneath.

To top it off, the hinge on the 3DS is really flimsy and has a lot of give. If you're riding in a vehicle, this creates somewhat of an issue.

What games would you play on it?

If you've waited this long, you might as well wait a little bit longer for the inevitable redesign.

Ugh, I doubt there will be a redesigned 3DS, period. Ever.

I can't remember, DSi does not play GBA, right?

If so, dump that piece and get a 3DS.

I hated the DS, all of them. They felt cheap. I hated the buttons. It's one plus was the ability to play GBA games.

3DS feels so much better in the hands and the buttons and nub are actually worth a damn.

^ Correct, DSi doesn't have a GBA slot, and for that reason I'd also say go with a 3DS now. A lot of people keep saying to wait for a redesign, but you never know when that will happen. Since the 3DS can play both DS and 3DS games you'll have an even wider selection of games and you also get access to more features that aren't related to games as well.

When it comes down to it, buy it for the games. Are there any 3DS games you really want to play right now? I think the DSi will still hold its value until at least Pokemon Black 2 or White 2 releases.

I can agree with you on pokemon. Maybe by the next generation of pokemon the 3ds will be redesigned.

I also got my 3ds on launch day. The first few months were terrible, but since Mario 3d land came out, there's been a steady stream of good games. I enjoy the eshop games. Pushmo is my third most played game on the system. I enjoy the streetpass too. Having said all that, I too think a redesign will be announced soon. Probably released next year.

Also, there is a lock on the 3d function. I believe it is in the parental controls. I know there is an option to disable the 3d so children cannot access it...

I love my 3DS, but if I'm going to play a regular DS game I prefer to play it on my DSi. The biggest reason is that the battery on the DSi lasts so much longer.

I would say that if you want to play a lot of 3DS games, then go ahead and get a 3DS; but if you will be playing mostly DS games, I would just stick with the DSi for now.

does anyone think a redesigned 3ds will be released this year seeing how there wasnt any announcements at E3 this year? i cant remember but did nintendo announce the ds lite at any show (E3/TGS/Gamescom) before coming out?

^ thats what I'm doing now. I just stocked up on a BUNCH of great DS games for the summer for cheap. By the time i'm done with these, it should be black friday-ish time.

Must be in canada or somewhere cause they only give 55 bucks for a 3ds credit.. dont know why they would give you 60 for a DSI (older unit)

ALSO yoU can very easy get a 3ds on ebay for 100... Why not dump your DSI for cash and upgrade that way

my true honest opinion is there will not be a redesigned 3ds. if they do it will be because it's cheaper to manufacturer which in the end, if you are picky, will mean it will feel cheaper too. the buttons, the d-pad, the casing.

I personally think the current 3ds is perfect. they will not add another nub or analog or anything, then it's a new console, not a 3ds.

There should be a lock under parental controls somewhere, read the manual, its to turn the 3D off for children who are under 6 since it could destroy their eyes according to Nintendo, lol!

Meanwhile, 2 weeks into the future...

And you should wait it out now, because I expect a 3DS XL Holiday bundle or something. A super (And I DO mean SUPER) sized 3DS with a pretty good game and maybe something on the side on Black Friday... it's a good investment. As for now, buy cheap 3DS games (like $5 or less) so you can build your collection in anticipation of your future system.
