SingStar PS3 - General Discussion & Info - SingStar Dance now available ...

I just picked up a ps3 yesterday and singstar. I am very impressed. I like how they have tons of modes. It is nice because you can just play practice and regular karaoke which is what my girlfriend will like. I hope they release more songs soon. I don't really want to buy v2, i hope it is just download content.

hope you're not in the US bc we get screwed with Singstar support (3 wks no update, constant missing updates on the 2 wk standard updates Europe gets, and a lot worse DLC song choice)

Yeah I am in the US :( is there any way to get other contries DLC? or is it like the 360 where they actually check your location?

Not sure if this has been posted, but the songs that will appear for the U.S. has been updated:
http://www.singstargame.com/en-us/Browse-Songs-Home/SingStore/?filter=NEW

I'm betting the update won't go live until Volume 2 comes out tomorrow.

Unfortunately Morrissey didn't make its way over.

To let everyone know, don't ever expect a UMG song in the store (they want a bit too much and harder to convince music + video in the store, so they can only come to disc releases).

Sorta blaw, will have to buy v.2 i guess. I really wanted them to make them all downloadable so I can pick and choose.

And yet another horrible lineup of songs. This has gone beyond no being able to find many songs that I like, this is into not being able to find songs that I've even heard of territory.

*Sigh*

I wish I could possess your positive attitude Mana. Maybe Sony will meet my expectations down the road.

If that's it, that's terrible. Sony is starting to piss me off with this SingStar BS. Hell, Rock Band usually releases about 5 songs a week and I want at least half of them. Sony can't even get one right after waiting 3 weeks.
Another week of misfortune. Each update or lack thereof makes me want LIPS so much more.
I will be picking up lips as well when it releases. It seems like sony supported the ps2 version pretty good of singstar, hopefully they will pick it up with more songs, because I will buy tons of them.

I count about 11 songs off the vol. 2 disc that I would buy off the SingStore if they were available. So instead of getting about $15 from me through the store, Sony will get nothing since I will *not* buy the disc. I don't want all those songs and I don't want the hassle of switching discs.

And let's not forget that the online social networking content is available for our European friends through a normal web browser while for the U.S. it is only accessible through the game itself. How can I show my non-PS3-owning frineds how much fun I'm having!?

I'll get vol.2 at some point, because there are at the VERY least 15 songs I want. I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever other songs they have anyway.

I'll pick up vol. 2 at some point when there's a price drop.

I wish the DLC was better, but it's probably easier for Sony to sell artists on being part of the disc as IIRC, they don't make as much money on individual song downloads. Unless they start doing full album downloads of catalog or pushing new albums, I don't see the DLC being much more than really oldie moldie or indie stuff.

Yes, but they only put 30 songs on a disc. Theoretically, they could put an unlimited amount of songs on the SingStore. Smaller profit on more songs that are distributed digitally would be preferable IMHO for both profit and the consumer. This is all Long Tail stuff.

I understand that Sony needs a retail presence so the vol. 2 disc make sense for that.

iTunes, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, etc. have all figured this out. Put out as much content as possible and people will find it.

PS - I thinik there are some of us who would like olidie moldie stuff.

Ok, I think I've posted enough on this. Time for Sony to step up.

Personally I've been pretty conent with the dlc so far. I've bought a few songs every update, although October has sucked in all honesty.

Anyway, found this snipet out there :whistle2:

A series of themed song packs will also be released for SingStar on the PS3 system in the coming months. The series will be led in North America by two ultimate Queen packs featuring hit songs, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘We Are The Champions’, ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ and many more.

Wow! Queen packs!! *eats crow*

I remember how bummed I was after hearing they were Europe only when they were first announced a month ago or so. Now that they are coming to NA, that is truly exciting. In fact, I would say it is the most exciting news since vol. 1's release.

Although, October is getting a song I badly want:

English:
Big Fat Snake - "Bonsoir Madame"
Boy Meets Girl - "Waiting For A Star To Fall"
Calvin Harris - "Acceptable In The 80's"
David Bowie - "Starman"
Divinyls - "Boys In Town"
Duran Duran - "Girls On Film"
Good Charlotte - "Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous"
Hot Chip - "And I Was A Boy From School"
Panic! At The Disco - "But It's Better If You Do"
Radiohead - "Street Spirit"
The Calling - "Wherever You Will Go"
The Corrs - "Runaway"
Thompson Twins - "Hold Me Now"
Ultravox - "Love's Great Adventure"
Westlife - "The Rose"

Oh course, we will NOT get every song. I'm very confident this week we'll get the update, along with the U.K. (and it will contain the songs from the last two weeks).
Sorta blaw, will have to buy v.2 i guess. I really wanted them to make them all downloadable so I can pick and choose.
Some songs will remain disc exclusive, no matter what. Some artist like UMG feel $1.49 is too cheap for their music + video and would want MUCH more. That's why the only current solution to get their music is to put them on a disc. If SingStar did NOT use music videos, it would probably have much more music in the store (and bigger stuff), because licensing just music is a lot less painful (cheaper) to do. But the game wouldn't be SingStar without music videos.

I'll tell everyone also, don't EVER expect Michael Jackson and Madoona songs on the store, but they will be on disc most likely. There's no denying everyone would love to pick and choose songs, but that will never happen because:
-Some artist and companies like UMG will NOT have music in the SingStore.
-Due to 50% of PS3 owners not being connected to the internet, there HAS to be a disc release to accommodate for them. RB, GH, and many others see a disc release because of it. SingStar ABBA is on a disc because of the company being UMG, and there are a percentage of people who love ABBA but do not connect their consoles online.

The songlist for the PS2 and PS3 versions are posted for SingStar ABBA (PS3 one has 5 extra tracks, but is also $10 more):

I downloaded Boy Meets Girl " Waiting for a Star to Fall" right away. I absolutely love that song. I plan to download more I haven't gotten around to downloading, along with more on that list.

I'll update the OP later.

But my point is that there is enough songs there (shit or not) to basically have released a song a day since the last update or several in one week. Why they don't do that is absurd. They could also have an ad in the ps store saying check the 'singstore new music' or some shit. Potential that is seemingly lost ...

Can you buy music through the PSN store? I found it odd that you couldn't. Guitar Hero and Rock band are heavily advertised on XBLM

Such as going through the licensing songs, put them into SingStar with the video, test, then release. That's the process the SingStar team goes through, according to one employee at SCEE London (who posts in the Facebook group).

Part of the reason they cannot do everyday is because Songs come in various languages, and for many other languages, they cannot release a song daily for them.

You can't, because the SingStar Store is its own store, built where ONLY the SingStar team in Europe can update. Those who update the traditional PS Store have no access to it. In order to integrate the store the best, that's why it was made separately. You can still view all your SingStar purchases without inserting SingStar, by checking "View Services".

I don't mind them being weekly or every other week releases. just need consitency, or people think you have given up on the service.

It is odd the way they designed that, but even as it is most people I presume check the store on a regular basis as you don't have to stick in a game for it to work and having some ad space detailing new updates would help I presume.

Agreed. I swear at one point we had consecutive weeks and now nothing for 4 weeks. Consistency is the key.

Is there any word on "Country" songs being available for download. I know they are less than $1 per song if you just buy the game, but I would prefer the PS3 format and not having to switch games to play country songs.

Also, they said there would be a patch available for V.2 that made it so you could swap PS2 discs without changing games. I have two questions about that.
1) Is this patch available (or going to be) for those who don't buy V.2?
2) When you use PS2 songs, is it in the PS3 game format (i.e. not so ugly)?

Picked up v.2 today. Sorta wish I had a ps3 with backwards compatiblity though so i could buy one of the 800 versions it has. Glad I bought v.2 because i was going to buy some of them on psn today but now i don't have all of them plus some. Girlfriend seems to be happy.

You know you'll be able to swap in PS2 discs to play their songs in the future, right?
My ps3 isn't backwards compatable though :(
It doesn't matter. The PS3 game supports using PS2 Singstar discs, period.

Had friends over last night. we played singstar v1 and v2 for like 5 hours straight. Such a blast. Then we went online and started downloading tracks. Was great. I think i am up to 26 downloaded tracks. So much fun. We just played in practice mode, which is all you relaly need, but the game is great. Just need more and more songs.

Really???? that is crazy. If that is so that is amazing. I can find ps2 singstars for super cheap used. Is it just a patch for v.2??? any idea when it is going to come out??
How is the gameplay on the PS2 versions compared to the PS3 version?
From looking at screen shots they look almost the same. the videos seem to be smaller on the screen and the scores are displayed in big bars at the top, but if you are just karaokeing (spelling???) then it doesn't really matter, but I haven't played them myself.

It's unknown yet. I heard late this year. It's patch for SingStar period, no matter which version you have you'll be able to play PS2 singstars regardless of which model PS3 you have. I'm presuming the trophy patch will be included (hope).

I just got Singstar Country today and it is glitchy. The previews of the songs don't play and half the time the game freezes when you select your song. Sometimes when you do get into your song, it just skips/loops like a scratched record. Disc is pristine though. Has anyone heard of it being glitched or did I just get a jacked copy?
Are you playing Country in your PS3?

OP updated. I actually bought 4 songs this update. I thin kI'm up to 42 songs bought now. :hot:
Yes I am. And I think I have around 40+ dl'd songs as well. 'Tis not good...
Yes I am. And I think I have around 40+ dl'd songs as well. 'Tis not good...
Could well be a compatibility issue then. If you just hold out then then patch that allows PS2 and PS3 discs to be interchanged might help out.
