SingStar PS3 - General Discussion & Info - SingStar Dance now available ...

Master Shake just posted a deal on Singstar '90s (standalone) for $17 on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0012M8BWY/ref=nosim/cheapassgam08-20

I've been waiting for some deals on PS2 Singstars since the PS3 Singstar will eventually allow a swap feature. Glad to pick this up for cheap since it usually retails at $30!

Sadly, I wouldn't have resorted to this if their updates were decent, and I can't wait for numerous months to get my songs.

For others looking for ps2 SingStar games, Target started to clearance them out as well. At my local store they have 90s and 80s bundles as well as disc only. If you're not familiar with Target clearance, they usually start at 30%, then move to 50% and finally 75% This of course depends on if your store still has them in stock and no one has bought them already. Items are also ymmv as some stores run a different clearance schedule then others.

According to them, yes. It will work even if your PS3 is not backwards-compatible with the PS2.

That's all they can say.

The update has not gone live anywhere yet, to let everyone know.
Wow...that's weak.

In for Flaming Lips (and counting the days until Rock Band 2 comes out).
The pictures in your signature suck.
Someone just told me that the songs were up. Confirmation anyone?
Not yet. I'm expecting next week (I think the U.S. updates will be a week later).

EDIT: No region has gotten updated yet.

Today, after installing the update, I noticed the 'disc-swap' option in the song selection screen, you have to press Select and it'll prompt you to swap Singstar discs, though it doesn't seem to be working for me for some reason... :'(

Yeah it's disc swapping for PS3 singstar games. So for us it's kind of useless right now as Vol 2 isn't out yet.

The PS2 disc swap is still to come.

Anybody know if they're going to be adding latin american music to the singstar store, or maybe come out with a latin american version of the game?

Hello all! Aaron Orsak here again with some very exciting news on the SingStar front. I’m here to officially announce the release of SingStar ABBA coming this December to both the PS3 and PS2. SingStar ABBA will feature all of your favorite ABBA songs such as “Mamma Mia,” “Dancing Queen,” “Fernando,” and “Voulez Vous.” We’re proud to present SingStar ABBA to all you fans, especially considering that ABBA has so many classic tunes that everyone loves to sing. IGN has the full details which you can check out here.

Also, don’t forget that we’ve got several new SingStar games coming to you this Holiday season: SingStar Pop vol. 2 which launched last week, SingStar Legends, SingStar PS3 Vol.2, and SingStar Country. SingStar Legends features all of your favorite classics such as “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers, “What’s Goin On” by the great Marvin Gaye, and “Blue Suede Shoes” by the incomparable Elvis Presley. SingStar PS3 Vol.2 continues hot on the heels of Vol. 1 with all-new songs and of course access to the ever popular SingStore and My SingStar online. And with SingStar Country, we’ve really listened to all you fans and decided to carry the franchise into the popular world of country music. The track list on SingStar Country reads like a roster of who’s who in country music: Alan Jackson, Big & Rich, Brooks & Dunn, Jessica Simpson, Willie Nelson, and even Johnny Cash! Other tracks you’ll find on SingStar Country include Trace Adkins’ “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,” Miranda Lambert’s “Kerosene,” and Kenny Chesney’s “Big Star.”

On another note, there’s been a lot of feedback from you guys on the US SingStore. In particular, you’ve been asking for more of the popular US-centric songs we all want to sing. We’re definitely listening to your feedback and are taking great strides towards making the SingStore much more robust and full of the songs you want to sing. We are also making considerable progress, in coordination with Sony London Studios, in trying to ensure that the content updates stay steady and simultaneously released worldwide. Thank you all very much for your feedback and continued generous support, and keep your eyes right here for the latest and greatest SingStar news!
OP updated.

EDIT: Here's this weeks official list.

I haven't counted, but it seems like Duran Duran and Coldplay have the most content of any individual artists.

I haven't done the DLC, but today I put all of the ps2 singstar discs excluding country and ps3 vol.1 & 2 into a database using MS Access. I figure it'll be a good tool on finding out if I already own a DLC song on a disc somewhere. If anyone else is interested, PM me and I'll email it to you or something.

Here's the songlist for Thursday maybe (for the U.K.):
Avenged Sevenfold-------------Bat Country
Booty Luv------------------------Shine
Bratz------------------------------Friends Are Everything
Empyr-----------------------------New Day
Gossip----------------------------Standing In The Way Of Control
Hot Chocolate-------------------You Sexy Thing
Laid Back-------------------------Sunshine Reggae
Måns Zelmerlöw-----------------Cara Mia
Marc Cohn-----------------------Walking In Memphis
MiNA feat Pal Angleskar--------Living In Between
Morrissey-------------------------Suedehead
Sonny & Cher--------------------I Got You Babe
Sultans of Ping FC---------------Where's Me Jumper
Surferosa-------------------------Royal Uniform
The Beach Boys------------------Barbara Ann
The Kooks------------------------Always Where I Need To Be
The Pigeon Detectives----------I'm Not Sorry
The Proclaimers------------------I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
Titiyo------------------------------Come Along

Most songs we should get, but some MIGHT not come. I doubt "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" will come since it's on the Volume 2 disc (we haven't gotten it yet. Also, due to licensing, sometimes the update might be 6 days late.

Isn't this in the European Singstar Vol. 2? Or was it This Charming Man?
Isn't this in the European Singstar Vol. 2? Or was it This Charming Man?
I just found out it was in the European version, but not in the U.S. disc coming soon.

Does anybody have the e-mail address to request songs handy? I need I Believe in a Thing Called Love to come to the US, it's been UK exclusive long enough.

Ok so I got Singstar for the PS3 and I am having a blast with it. We downloaded about 12 songs for it on the first night we had it. My wife already wants to have a singstar party... not sure if I am ready to sing in front of other people LOL.

But it looks like there is no rhyme or reason to the update sched?

Not too long after launch updates were pretty regular, happening every other Friday for the U.S. IIRC. Then, sometime in August or September they "missed" an update but followed it up with a mega-release of 30 or songs (although most were disappointed with the selection on an individual song basis).

Now, who knows what the fuck they are doing.

Love the game too. It just could be sooooo much better in terms of the SingStore content.

To let everyone know, I expect SingStar songs to appear on Wednesday at the latest. Aaron Orsak at SCEA is trying to get the music released in NA around the same time as the U.K., but it doesn't always work out (due to licensing and such, since the SingStar team at SCEE only takes care of the U.K. first).

The SingStar team is divided up into various regions who gets feedback from their audience (I was told this directly by one of the creators), licenses songs, and lastly puts them up in the store. However, the team at SCEA does not have much say on what goes on. They cannot directly license the songs until the U.K. SingStar team lets them know what music is coming. Some songs get licensed easily, some run into issues causing a hold up. The U.K. SingStar does NOT take any responsibility to licensing the music for NA, they leave it strictly up to SCEA, but SCEA cannot do anything until SCEE London U.K. SingStar team is finished. The music will come, no doubt. It's like a JRPG translation. If no translation in English was started in development, oh course it will take it a while to come here. That's the same way with music, because it's licensed for the U.K. first, then SCEA has to license it for NA.

Like I tell everyone, if there was a U.S. SingStar team licensing all the music and developing it for NA, things would be different. Why do you think it took Rock Band so long to come to Europe? It was because the music was licensed for NA first, then Europe (and due to artist having different record labels in each region makes it harder).

Yeah, I'm familiar with the situation. I expect your explanation is spot on too. Every time I hear what's going on behind the scenes, I'm sorry to hear the box SCEA has put themselves in (or been put in to be fair).

"I expect SingStar songs to appear on Wednesday at the latest. Aaron Orsak at SCEA is trying to get the music released in NA around the same time as the U.K., but it doesn't always work out"

Why would you expect this? I don't think this has ever happened. They may have told you that was the plan, but have they ever delivered? (Frankly, I wouldn't care what day they released the new songs on if the the selection was better)

I have no doubt that licensing is hard work and takes time. I know this because we've been told this for about six months since the game's release.

"if there was a U.S. SingStar team licensing all the music and developing it for NA, things would be different."

That sounds like a great idea! They should do that! You should email them that idea! :D

All of that doesn't change the fact that those in the U.S. are much more likely to be disappointed with the SingStore selection than those who can say the SS "meets or exceeds my expectations."

Like I said in my prior post, I love the game. It is a ton of fun. It could be soooo much better.

Not to harp on it, but I'd also point out that despite the difficulties of liscensing for the U.S., Sony has somehow managed to put out one SingStar PS2 title since SingStar PS3's release (Pop vol. 2) with another two PS2 titles and two PS3 titles in the next month or so (Country, Legends, PS3 vol. 2, and ABBA - counting it once, not for each platform).

My point is, even with the limitations cited above, Sony has somehow managed to put out products with much more relevance to the U.S. market than what we're getting from the SingStore. Of course, in a perfect world the songs on those products would be day one releases on the store too.

Yeah, we shouldn't be content with their excuses. If they really wanted the SingStore to rock in the US, it would. They're just not prioritizing it like they could be.

When we get to export the PS2 discs to PS3, the library will have about another 200 tracks or so. I know personally that about 100 of those are must haves for me.

Umm, I'm pretty sure you won't be ripping the PS2 songs to the PS3 hard drive. It just lets you swap disks, which doesn't seem like much more than backwards compatibility to me.
Umm, I'm pretty sure you won't be ripping the PS2 songs to the PS3 hard drive. It just lets you swap disks, which doesn't seem like much more than backwards compatibility to me.
That correct. The patch will allow SingStar PS2 discs to be swapped as well as the PS3 discs. Nothing goes on your HD. It just means that if you had the SingStar PS2 games you can now enjoy those as well without having to quit and start a new game.
Same difference to me. I have all the PS2 discs except Pop Vol. 2 right now.
Same diff to you, but a last generation approach to others.

I wish the new games due out would be on BOTH PS2 and PS3. I do not understand why this is not done - patch or no patch.

And I assume since there is a Disney version of "Sing It" due out that we will see no Disney version of Sing Star (for the kids... ya the kids).
Same diff to you, but a last generation approach to others.
Very true... Rock Band 2 does everything right. Why can't Singstar, man? And yeah, they shouldn't be putting out PS2-only discs now, backwards-compatible or not.

PS2 install base is too large to ignore.
PS2 install base is too large to ignore.
They don't have to ignore them, but of course they could either make PS3 discs for the same products or do the smart thing and sell those PS2 songs on the Sing Store.
