I'm on the fence on whether I should get a PS3 or a 360, but I've come to think that Sony might just redesign the PS3...do you guys think this is plausible?

Consider for a moment, the history of HOME console redesigns (particularly recently) and where they placed in the generation as far as marketshare.

Off the top of my head:

-PS1 and PS2, both leading their generations.
-NES and SNES, both leading their generations.
-N64 and GC were not redesigned (not counting the Panasonic Q), and did not lead their generations.
-The Megadrive WAS redesigned, and did not lead the generation, but was reasonably close for a while.

And I guess the CDX

A PSThree might just be a little dependent on how the platform overall performs.

Actually for a good amount of time, the genesis DID beat the super nintendo. Especially in Europe where it literally spanked Nintendo as a whole over there. It wasn't until like 94-95 that the super nintendo started beating the genesis.

That works out even better. Is there an example of a home console redesign for a console that was not at least in the running for the lead at some point?

Are you kidding me here? The PS3 has been out for a year and a few days and you're already asking about a redesign? Why would Sony do this, especially so short into the system's lifespan?

well...they did go through several technical and model changes within the first year. i'm just saying...

I'm sure it will happen, but they won't do it until they make money on the hardware. I'm guessing 3 or so years from now we'll see a redesigned PS3.

Sega CD

Guess it'll be out Sept. 1st, sooner than I thought now (not at the time of my original post).

Feel bad for Sony, I get the feeling there won't be a ps4 (doesn't even sound good).

I think that the Slim needs to come out in more colors and some special edition systems before they do a full redesign. I'd like to see a white PS3 slim.

Technically Sony is more wrong for going against me.

Not my funeral. Everything'll look real rosy for a few NPDs until their next financial report comes out. They're very close to losing every last dime SCE ever made, a few quarters of slim losses + additional losses from old units over the next few quarters might push them over the edge. They shouldve cut their losses and launched PS3.5 with the motion wands as the true relaunch. Any marginal gains in marketshare for PS3 comes at too high a price.

Aggressive moves are fun to watch though.

Get it now while the price is at $299 so that way when it drops another hundred in a year or so you won't regret it as much as if you bought one lets say a month before it drops in price again.
