Small Arms XBLA - Gen Discussion - Patch and DLC details

SP was hard until I found way to cheese the computer (for example, ice freeze them as they jump over a cliff so they drop straight down)

Single player is too frustrating when they do the 4-at-once, but other than that it's probably worth the 10 bucks.

Obviously the characters and overall appeal of SSB isn't there, but the level design in some cases is really innovative (the tornado level, for instance).

i like this game its pretty cool. But, if i didn't have 800 extra points from the BB deal, i wouldn't have gotten this

I think I'll buy it tonight. The demo is pretty fun, and it's not a "classic game", so I want to support it. Is the online multiplayer really good? That's mostly what I'll be playing.

Multi with 3 friends is the best part.

Not digging it but I did buy it. Hopefully ill like it more and get into like I do super smash brothers for a quick game of something to play.

I think I'll pass... nobody on my friends list seems to be playing it (so I'll assume they didn't buy it) and from the meh impressions in here, I might as well keep my $10.

yea man, it's good stuff

i like the characters and the weapons...

i never really got into super smash bros, but this game is fun as hell against 3 other people on live.

only complaint is that sometimes the camera zooms in too close on a certain area of the map, regardless of where you are. so you have no idea what is going on, and it's even worse on a map where you can easily fall to your death. is there a reason that happens? anyway to stop it?
Didn't like the game, but I also don't like the SSB series which is what it kind of plays like.
It "kind of plays like it" is an overstatement. I played the demo for about 10 minutes and decided I had played enough. I thought it was absolutely terrible. Really boring, and the weapons weren't cool, a major flaw for a game that puts emphasis on it's weapons. The arcade mode they give you was just plain un-fun.

10 minutes and you can say its absolutely terrible? wow

Anyhow for those on the borderline, i personally really like the game. The weapons actually do work nicely, you just need to learn how to use them right. Just like any fighting type game if you go in button mashing and then put the controller down and walk away its easy to say it sucked.

Also the true emphasis on this game isnt weapons, its multiplayer. If you arent going to play this with other people id pass but its a blast to play multiplayer. Had a friend over and we went on same system to xbox live, had a ton of fun.

If i had to compare it to another game, id have to say powerstone more than ssbm

yea, it's really fun multiplayer...single player is pretty good but can get old quick...i like the variety of characters and how they all look...the weapons are interesting and fun to use and the multiplayer is sweet

i would reccommend it if you plan on playing multiplayer (online or offline)

To get the challenge achievements, if anyone knows yet, do I have to kill 50 people all time in challenge mode, or in one play?

I'm guessing it's the requisite "impossible achievement" every arcade game seems to have, and it's all in one play.

Yeah, unless constant food poured down, that really is impossible
constant food pours down every 4 people you kill
It would work if I didn't go with the jump and try to freeze people and then keep pressing X strategy

I thought the demo was ok.....not sure 800 ok though. how is the LIVE play though? Single player seems rather pointless after a while though....I do have LIVE points to burn though.

live is fun but sometimes the camera angle is annoying. Get some people over and play local multiplayer to get a better feel for it. If you have the points for it, id say its a good purchase.

Does anyone have the win fifty and win 100 wins achievements. It says I have won like 130 yet still hasn't given me the achievements. Is there anything I could be doing wrong.

Sorry to break this to you, but the achievements are glitched in Small Arms at the moment.

Here it is:

50 wins: The 50th win currently HAS to come in mission mode, word is if you get the 50th win online and not in mission mode, then you cant get it...at all.

100 wins: Same story, it has to come from mission mode...but here is the kicker...its not 100 wins its 500. I was pretty pissed after playing through mission mode up to 100 wins and finding this out, luckily since i did mission mode i didnt miss my 50 win achievement.

An easy way to get those wins is to host a private room on xbox live and go 1 vs 1 vs the computer on easy(1 life). Bazaar stage with Tyrone(dino) to get the fast freeze kill. Took me about half an hour to get another set of 100 kills, much much much faster than it took me to get to 100 kills in mission mode.

Hopefully they fix this glitch soon for those who missed the achievement, but after spending more time with this game i would still recommend it.

Patch and DLC coming soon:

Gamertag Radio breaks the news that new content is on the way for the Xbox Live Arcade.title Small Arms from Gastronaut Studios. X3F readers may recall that we have something of a soft spot for the game, so new content is great news. In addition to the new content, an update will also be released that should address several bugs in the game (and some weapon balancing, we hope). The new content pack will include 2 new characters and 2 new maps. We don't know about the maps yet, but the new characters have been revealed.

No date or price announced yet.

New characters look really cool. Hopefully they don't charge too much for them since the game cost 800 total. I might bite for 100 points.

They do look cool, but it seems like they are just skins for the other characters, they have the same weapons as Knight and the Ninja chick.

Now if only they released a patch that made the game enjoyable.

This was the first game I bought on Live and I still fire it up once in awhile.
I'll check out the price but I think its too little WAY too late.

Premium content boasts:
* Two playable characters: Recycle your opponents as Ivar, the sabretooth tiger druid, or as Gullarp, the bald wooly mammoth.
* Two distinctive battlefields: Go fishing for friends on the Arctic Ice Floe, or fight for glory amid the rubble of Pillaged Village.
* Two unique achievements: Become an Honorary Barbarian by completing Mission Mode as any new character, or launch a career as a Barbaric Recruiter by hosting a multiplayer game on any new battlefield.

Coming tomorrow June 6th, for 250pts!

250 eh? I'll pick it up later on perhaps. Btw, is this the first XBLA arcade game to have more than the usual 200 gamerpoints?

They actually may have:

An free update to the game has also been released, which includes game performance tweaks and bug fixes. The update also includes some much needed weapon balancing. In particular, we've noticed that the electricity gun's secondary fire has a much slower rate of fire. If you ever found yourself frustrated by the game's weapons, you might want to give it another go with the new update in place.

I'll give it a spin later tonight.

I though I would do a search before I posted a new topic. I must be late to the party because I just bought the game, and this post is rather old. Does anyone still play it online? :D
