Gamertag Radio breaks the news that new content is on the way for the Xbox Live Arcade.title Small Arms from Gastronaut Studios. X3F readers may recall that we have something of a soft spot for the game, so new content is great news. In addition to the new content, an update will also be released that should address several bugs in the game (and some weapon balancing, we hope). The new content pack will include 2 new characters and 2 new maps. We don't know about the maps yet, but the new characters have been revealed.

For those of us that were waiting for an original XBLA title, this will be a great addition to your current XBLA library. All I hope for is that it plays like Smash Bros. and/or Power Stone. :D

Update 10/16: To Be Released November?:

I forgot to mention to you guys on my “Not-A-Podcast” that I got word from a Microsoft Rep @ the Digital Life Expo in NYC that Small Arms may be releasing in November.
No exact date was given but Microsoft is hoping to stick in Small Arms on the xbox live arcade some wednesday in November.
Gastronaut Don told his forums members that I knew the inside scoop about the release date and since I have been getting alot of messages I figured I might as well post about it.
But hey take your time Gastronaut…No rush…..really…..lol

Update 7/11:
Viral Achievement

Gastronaut, the studio behind the upcoming XBLA game, Small Arms, have created the first viral achievement. Four of Gastronaut's employees will start being the only ones with the achievement. Anybody who plays against one of these four will get the achievement. In turn, anybody who plays against those people will get the achievement and so on and so forth until the whole world is...er...infected with success. Pretty neat idea if you ask me. Which I'm pretty sure you did.

This will definately get people playing it on XBL to try to run into one of those people "infected". Can't wait.

Small Arms is expected to be released at the end of summer. I will update this thread as more info is available.

It will probally be shitty compared to Super Smash Bros, but it might still be fun as long as they carefully copy Smash Bros.

EDIT- Gastronaut Studios? Never heard of them and they say on their website that Fuzee Fever is out now and I've never seen it. Was it on the original Xbox XBLA?

Video for those interested:

Fuzee Fever is on the original XBOX XBLA. Thanks for the video, looks good, reminds me of Power Stone. I wish someday Capcom decides to make Power Stone 3 and bring it to the X360

Looks pretty sweet.

Cool art direction -- specifically the haggard trailer in the second screenshot.

read: blinx and his sidekick pig...and a mutant chimney sweep. Smashbros 360!

sounds fun.

Here's some gameplay footage:

Looks pretty interesting. My main concern is that it might get too chaotic, and I will lose sight of my character momentarily. Other than that, I hope it's a good Smash Bros. spinoff.

If you keep on refreshing the link in the OP, you'll be able to (eventually) see 4 of the fighters:

A female ninja
A cyborg cat
A medieval knight
A dinosaur (or lizard)

Torn. Half of me says "SSB ain't shit without the recognizable licensed characters," but the other half wants a multiplayer game in this style on XBLA.

Look like more fun than Smash Brothers.

Good thing that game didnt go online, everyone would be pikachu and it would be a snore fest.

GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE?

 this game looks pretty fun. The achievement idea is pretty cool but I don't get into all that like alot of people do.

[XBLArcade] What do you have to say to those who might write off small arms as a Super Smash Bros clone?

[Jake] While both games have similar structures, they have very different forms of play. Super Smash Bros is all about accessible fighting game combos, while Small Arms is a 2D multi-directional shooter wrapped up in a platforming game package.

would've been a better plug if he just said "we totally ripped smash bros"

the base game with 2 characters is available on the marketplace for 1200pts, there is a 'vs' version that is only 500pts more.. 600pts get you horse's armor... :p

Yeah but it's all worth it for a great game, right?
:p

Shit. Right when my console will be in for repairs... The coffin should come this week but either way I can't get online anymore. I think there is a motherboard problem because I can't get online and not a single USB port works. So annoying. I'm definitely getting this when I can and I would love to get in on some CAG multiplayer.
Talked to a few people who played this and said it's very pretty, but just "ok".

Just don't get your hopes up for something incredible.
Just out of curiosity, where do you work that you're always in the "know" or know people that "know"?

I don't work in the industry anymore, but I did for about 4 years. And I still interact and chat all day with a number of people at a number of studios. I'd like to say which ones, but I have a feeling they would get upset if they read this thread.

Suffice it to say, they have partnernet, so they usually play all the xbla games beta. I think they can even download and play retail games still, but usually they don't have time.

I guess if you PM me, and if I trust you not to blab, I'd tell you more.

Weird, the goons over at SA that have access to Partnernet had nothing but good things to say about it.
It's fantastic and surprisingly good looking too. The gameplay is a lot of fun.

Thanks, the PM is not necessary, was just curious. That answers my question.
