Funny you mention that, my cousin went there after he got off of work knowing better aswell. He had been there the day before and knew better, I told him not to bother but he was bored and lives close by, so why not? Empty handed, poor thing, he was on the phone with me the entire time.

I'm actually going to one near my work (saddle brook) since one of my co-workers needs to go there today. I'll just tag along for the hell of it.

Yeah, the list does not appear to be 100% correct. The guy at my BB said that it might be a regional list and different regions got different lists (i.e., mostly the same but with some tweaks)... like Dreamfall for $1.99 wasn't on the list.

Most of the people here that do it typically only grab a few extras copies either for friends or fellow CAG's. Most CAG's here don't buy to sell for profit or post on EBay. If you spend enough time here, you will notice this of most CAG's.

It's fair game.

They have as much right to buy games just to sell for profit as you do to buy games strictly for play.

I highly doubt BestBuy will order more of these games since they aren't making a profit at these prices. Do you mean will they pull more stock from their warehouses to refill the store shelves?

Not counting on it at my local BestBuy (Tenleytown, DC) which has somewhat limited shelf space for games -- my guess is they are sick of these games taking up space that could be filled with new releases, so they won't exactly be begging for more $1.99 games to fill their shelves with.

Anyone been to the Brick, NJ BB? I'm guessing it's totally pointless to go at this point, especially since it's not that close to me.

I am not saying it isn't fair game, because obviously it is and it is happening. I am saying it is NOT respectable. You will not win much respect from many people here from those practices. Unfortunately as another said there are lurkers here and it is unfortunate that CAG has those kinds of people.
 
Went back to Best Buy in Pasadena TX today to pickup a couple new release DVDs & they still had 2 copies of NHL 2k6 for 360 & a couple other games like Lumines for PSP & Kareoke Revolution w/ Mic for GC. For the most part it looks like most everything is gone, but there is still quite a bit of the not so popular shit out.... gamecube has been squished to one small section as well as gba & ds.

This is exactly why I support stores that have a quantity limit when such sales occur. I guess there are always around this but it does keep some fat wallet from just walking in and filling up his cart with (10) copies of the same game. In any case, I won't argue the point anymore. There are NUMEROUS CAG's who know what I mean when it comes to this issue!

I was there Saturday Night. There was nothing to begin with. I think this was one of the few stores where their stock was actually sent back to the warehouse before this sale started.

I agree 130% Spaceboy. I want all stores to have limits on games to give more people an opportunity to buy them. And you're being a jerk if you cheat others out of these deals. Yes it's "legal", we know that, but you're still being a jerk.

So I ended going in after work yesterday anyway and the Westwood, CA, store still had titles to my surprise. No triple A games but six I was interested in and happy to get. Also hit West L.A. and they had none but don't have a good selection to begin with. Saw a few folks with lists. The BB employees in Westwood were funny as a few gathered around my register to see how my games rang up and they acknowledged it was a cool deal. Hey, six games for $21. Thanks for the tip!

I also agree and would like to see more stores stricly enforce this. The problem is that many hoarders may still return for multiple trips for bring everyong in their family along to purchase multiple copies.

The thing is, there's nothing in it for the store to enforce such a thing for a clearance. They want those games gone, by any means necessary.

That's better for the customers but from a business standpoint, they want these games out of the store as soon as possible and don't usually care if someone buys 1 or 100 games.

Whey they have advertised items, that is different though. They do put limits on those like all the door buster games on Black Friday at BB were 1 to a customer. That is probably because it is advertised and it would make them look bad if someone bought up their entire stock.

I'll come forward here as one of the "Gentlemen Hoarders" here at CAG (like FatherofCaitlin and others that escape my mind at the moment). Unlike the more obnoxious (eg RapaciousEbayer from FW who has sworn to leak CAG deals everywhere he can) I do offer other dealhunters to go through my cart in the store and pace my shopping. During the CC $5 deal I bouht stuff over the corse of MORE THAN A WEEK so others would have access. If a week after the clearance deal, you've not gotten there... it's pretty much NOT the reseller's fault, now is it?

Here at CAG we pretty much have eqaulity of opportunity. I have no tricks that anyone else here doesn't have. I share deals, I benefit from deals here. I trade and offer lower prices to my fellow CAGs. Dealhunting is part of my C-Corp's ventures (though I still have a day job for now) and yes, I do pay taxes on my game flipping. The tax thing does mean that I can only capitalize on the really big drops, so there is a disadvantage I suffer.

So keep that in mind when flamingis going to start over "hoarders" and "profiteers." Not all of us are black-hearted and evil. Some of us are trying to give back.

Obviously, by some of the posts I've read, some of the managers at Best Buy's do care as they were telling customers there were limited to 1 or 2 copies of each game. I would like to see more of this. I know they want to get rid of the games, but those hoarders are still going to be lurking days later if the titles are still available.
 
I had family committments and was unable to go anywhere over the weekend. Of course the store was cleaned out as of yesterday at 6:00 pm.

What's the general report for those who have monitered this thread? Was there really anything to begin with or was Best Buy sold out of these games long ago?

Honestly, I don't have a problem with the method that you described above. It sounds like you give other CAG's the chance to get in on the deal. Late "bloomers" just have to deal with the fact they missed it. I have been on that end many times. Overall, I think your policy is sound as it lets other CAG's have a chance and also gets the inventory off the stores shelves. I have no problem with capitalism at all. I just have a problem with the guy who "swoops in" and grabs all the cheap game as soon as the stores open.

Best Buy will not order more, but you may get lucky and find something days or even weeks later. After last year's clearance (when I actually was able to get some games) I had gone through all the games, and yet a couple of weeks later when I stopped in, there was a clearance GBA game right out in the open in the GBA bins. It must have been found, or returned, or something.

But that will be the exception. If you didn't find it by now, don't count on it.
 
I didn't get to go yesterday as our boys were sick and I had to take them to the doctor. Priorities ya know. I did run by one today but they were cleaned out of everything. Funny part was, ALL of the little price dividers were still there and it looks like they didn't have all that much in the first place (not that I wouldn't have picked up at least a couple of em).

Meh, o well, guess I'll have to see if GS/EB is still running their XBOX B2G1Free on used games and see if there's anything I haven't got around to checkin out.

Congrats for those that found good BB deals.
 
I decided to go back this morning to a couple Best Buys and scored:

Star Wars: KOTOR ($4.99)
Star Wars: KOTOR II ($4.99)
Romancing Saga ($9.99)

One of the Best Buys I went to even had the clearance Xbox games in its own section of the shelf with prices marked on their divider sleeves. Of course they were the games no one wants (Ford vs. Chevy, American Chopper 2, etc.).
 
i was actually pretty excited about this, even though i didn't see this thread until today. i know for a fact my best buy had around 8 copies of every 360 game on clearance a week ago, because i was actually considering picking up full auto, but decided i'd wait for $20. i got there and not a day after the sale starts there isn't even space for the games on the shelves anymore. about the only signs of this clearance i saw was a shoebox sized bin on the end of the GBA section that had half madden 06 for the ps2 and then a few other crap games.

kinda pisses me off that i was actually in the store yesterday but had no idea of this clearance. i could have possibly picked up a couple games i really wanted to try out for cheap.

If you're saying, then your problem isn't just with FW or SD. It would include CAGs who buy multiple copies so that they can use it to trade with other CAGs. Some see it as helping other members but sometimes they can be taking away the deals from other local CAGs.

Edit: So the lesson learned is that if we can't find games in a deal, we should all just let it go. There are so many groups (don't forget store employees) that are fighting for the same deals it's kind of ridiculous to pin it all on FW or SD.

I really don't have a problem with this. Most CAG's only snag a couple copies for themselves, others or for trade. I was talking about the fat wallets and hoarders.

Also, the CAG's that do grab extra copies for trade typically return them to store if no one wants to deal. So, the game ends back up in the store for another CAG to grab.
 
Don't close the thread, there may be developments... I mean, this is only day 2 of the sale. I'm still finding stuff... (Harvest Moon GC, Republic Commando, Monster Hunter PSP today)

Personally I think the CAG members who post vs. the FW/SDers who post are more considerate. That's all we can really confirm. I generally try to strike up a converation with other deal hunters and find out where they come from... never met another CAG yet but just in this thread there were 2 others in my neck of the woods.
 
There is more stuff to be found. It many not be the most wanted games, but they are still there. I know I picked up a few today. I even saw a few of the $1.99 games.
 
I usually don't complain about much but what happened at a certain Best Buy yesterday was beyond horrible.

So I walk into the Best Buy and head straight for the video game section. As I am heading over there I can see a bunch of the employees looking at me like I am about to steal something......

Anyways, I pull out my handy list and start checking like a mad man. After about 20 min. of searching I put my list away and bring up my 12 games that I had found that I wanted to get. I left plenty more there but that doesn't even matter....

Anyways, I bring the games up to the counter and the lady starts ringing me up. We get all the way to the last game Urbz DS which rings up at $1.99 but had a $9.99 sticker or $14.99 sticker on the front of it. So the young lady called over the manager to ask about it even after I told her to now worry about it.

The second the manager comes over to me the first words out of his mouth were "Where you get that list from?" Well I looked at him dumbfounded and told him that the last Best Buy I was at had it up for everyone to look at.....ok so I lied, but why does it even matter where I got the list?

He then tells me that he is the manager of the store and he was just given that list today and the only way I could have gotten the list was to hack into Best Buys computers and steal it...........So at this point I am about dieing of laughter.

The manager then tells me that he can't sell me the games because of "illegally" obtaining the list and he grabbed all 12 games and walked straight into the back with them......The young girl looked at me and said "what a fucking prick" and I left pissed off./end rant

I know I am horrible at retelling stories, but do you guys think I should be sending a letter to the president of Best Buy because of what happened, or should I just not be a little bitch?

You just got down pwning a manager who thinks he must know everything before anyone else. Tell him to quit being a lazy arse and work weekends like a good retail manager SHOULD do and he would've gotten the list on saturday just like all the other managers!

Damn i wish that happened to me. I'd have gotten his employee number and store number and reported him. I suggest you CALL bestbuy's 1-800 number NOW and file a report. Oftentimes they will send you giftcards and stuff after crap like that happens and managers get in trouble.
 
Definitely complain to corporate. Both BBs I went to were honoring this and no one reacted negatively. If nothing else you might feel a little better for ranting, and who knows they might be generous. Anyway, it doesn't hurt.

I DEFINATELY would report him to corporate! There is NO need for that kind of crap. You didn't do anything wrong other than to have a list and grab some games. Besides that, he accused you of something that was completely false. It is definately worth telling a local news station as well.
