There are a lot of 360 games I've noticed this with lately -- Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, and I'm sure a few others.

Crisis Core FFVII PSP, Dissidia FF PSP, and Fragile Dreams Farewell Ruins of the Moon Wii have really nice reversible covers.

Persona PSP as well. I'd assume the second does but I haven't opened the CE to check.

All are great games that are worth buying. It's close, but I think I have Nocturne as the best, with the Personas right behind.

Good prices for good RPGs. Note that these are re-releases, so Nocturne will not include the soundtrack and DDS1 won't come in the outer cardboard box (among the rarest U.S. PS2 releases).

I'm hoping that I still have mine from when I originally bought the game

I have Persona 3 FES PSN download. It's great! I'm 100 hours in and I haven't finished The Journey yet. I hope Atlus decides to add Persona 4 on the PSN soon or I just might get the Vita just to play it.:D

Would you guys that have played these games recommend P3 or P4 to a newcomer? Or should I just get them both? Curious for some input since I never played Persona before.

I had never played a persona game before I had played Persona 3

ended up becoming my 2nd favorite game

Must play for a rpg fan

Two of the best RPGs of the last generation, I can't recommend those games enough.

Also, you don't have to have played any SMT games to get right into Persona 3/4.

Just be aware that it takes a little while to get rolling in the game and don't expect to explode with action right off the bat.

Thanks, I'll grab atleast one of them.
Persona 3!
Especially if you ever plan on playing 4 at one point. EVERYONE has told me that 3 should be played before 4 because 4 is better in many ways.

Wow, this is a bump from the past. Didn't realize this was an old deal. Still, I'm mildly interested but I have no knowledge of the series. Can someone give me a primer and is this series of games missing any entries? So will I need any others before or in the middle to follow the story?

Nocturne and the Persona games you can play on their own. Play DDS 1 before 2.
still in stock lol
I've been watching Digital Devil Saga for a long time to see if the price drops any more, but they seem to stay at this level...
All amazing games. Don't pass 'em up.

Still wish I could find a copy of the first PS2 Devil Summoner.

I'd never pay for the PSN Persona 3, though. PCSX2 works just fine for me.
I found it one day at gamestop with manual and everything my brother in law now owns it and sold it on Ebay so pissed
These games need to come to PSN, I hate having to switch to my PS2 when playing them.
Agreed. I'd like to play some of these but don't have a PS2 anymore or a BC PS3. Hell, put a couple of these on Vita and I'd have a semi-good reason to buy one of those... (I know P4 is already on Vita).
damn shouldve sold my DDS and Nocturne long ago.
The older prints still hold some collector value. The old prints had OST for DDS1 and Nocturne. Old Persona 3 FES had a cardboard box + artbook/ost. Original prints of DS1 had a shiny cover kind of like Kingdom Hearts (though I think they haven't had a reprint in awhile)

I would pay $19.99 easily on them if they came to the vita (that would also be the push to make me finally buy one).

wouldn't count on it
The DDS reprints don't come with the soundtrack right?
Number one only came with the outer cardboard box and number two was a preorder bonus.

God, I miss those games. Favorite spinoff from the main SMT series. Even Persona doesn't come close.

Right, no soundtrack.

Weird, I don't remember getting an artbook and OST with Persona 3 FES, and I think I purchased it day one at Gamestop.

The original version of Persona 3 had the box with artbook and OST.

Would you guys recommend DDS or which ones?

Been meaning to get into the series but don't know which game is the best to start with.

Persona 3 and 4 has a better RPG mechanics, devil saga series including Nocturne is strictly dungeon crawling

I'm saving P4 for the vita when I eventually get one. Can you download P3 for the vita? If you can I'll save it til then if not then I'll probably get it.

Which one out of digital devil and nocturne is better?

as much as I want Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, I just have a hard time buying it if its not the version with the extra box around it that came with extras like a soundtrack or something. The collector in me cant get them without it. Regardless I dont have time for them anyway so they continue to wait. I already have the other 3 games from long ago.

Digital Devil Saga 2 never had a box, and the soundtrack is a preorder bonus. That means you paid $49.99 on release day.

well i know DDS 2 didnt have a box but it had different box art than the DDS2 shown here since these are reprints. lol so I guess im saying i will just someday get the boxed DDS and then get the original DDS 2 with that yellow background type box art

just picked up DDS1, 2, and Nocturne. I couldn't resist any longer.

Honestly, it's worth it. Love my vita, and love p4 on it.

Persona 3 Portable, the PSP game, is compatible with the Vita on the PSN Store. It's a redone version of 3 and let's you play as a female character instead of the male character.

You just won't have access to FES from the PS2 rerelease but that's fine.

DDS2 has reversible cover art. There is no original to go track down. There was a deluxe version of DDS1. That comes in a nice box with some goodies and enough room for both games. If you want to do it right, you need to get that and then any ol' copy of DDS2 to stick in there with it.

I'm currently playing Digital Devil Saga 2 (near the end of it and just did DDS 1) these games are really damn good. There are some differences from the standard SMT formula, but I actually prefer them... like a lot. The story is really damn good, too.

That's a difficult question to answer. They are both genuinely great games and you can't go wrong with either one. Both have the same excellent Press Turn battle system.

Digital Devil Saga

Best things:
- More fleshed out storyline and characters than in Nocturne. Better pacing.
- I love, love, loveeee the soundtrack.
- More friendly to people new to the series.

Worst things:
- No recruiting enemies and using them. Instead you consume them.
- Some people hate certain party members like Cielo.

Nocturne

Best things:
- Darker atmosphere which I really dug.
- More of a hardcore challenge.
- Lots of enemies to recruit, use, and fuse...Pokemon in hell. You fight Dante.

Worst things:
- No party members. It's just you and the enemies you recruit.
- Story is minimal. Really, the great gameplay is the only thing that kept me coming back.

Wow both sound great. Soundtrack and pacing are good but that dark atmosphere and pokemon in hell things sounds freaking awesome haha.

But the story being minimal kills it so I guess I'm going with Digital Devil thanks for info.
Will be picking up Nocturne later though sounds really cool to pass up on.

Recruiting enemies is better than set party members and you can also recruit Dante from Devil May Cry, not just fight him.

For anybody looking for DS 1 and 2 search Gamestop's store tracker, with the BOGO 1/2 my store was having I picked up DS2 for $6 earlier this week.

Well if you look online theres copies with a background thats yellow or orange and then theres thew DDS box with 2 characters on the cover. its not reversible it would seem since both are new copies and both have different covers. bah whatever. not in the market for a new RPG to get into just yet lol Still great prices nonetheless

That's completely a matter of preference, though. The recruiting is my least favorite thing about the SMT series. I hate monster recruiting--of any kind--in anything but Pokemon. I wish there was always at least one SMT series going that was more like this.

I have it in my hand. Do you have it in your hand lol? It's reversible. I don't know why some sites show one pic and others show another, but I can tell you with certainty that it is reversible. My copy was also one of the cheap-o ones from a reprint on amazon a couple of years ago.
