Gamestop has a bin of games on clearance advertised as being 'new'. The price tag indicates the game is a new copy, yet the original wrap has been removed with game taken from the case. I asked the employee if I would get a new, factory sealed copy of the game from behind the counter if I decided to buy it, or if I would in fact receive the opened copy. He explained to me how the opened copy is their 'new' game since it has never been played. Supposively they removed the game (and of course, coated the case with stickers which are notorious for leaving sticky residue) to prevent customers from stealing the UMD. I remember witnessing a customer several years ago who brought in a game that was still factory-sealed for a trade-in, but was only given credit for a used game despite the game still being factory-sealed.
It's pretty jacked-up how Gamestop can open a new game, cover it with stickers, and still call it a 'new' game while a customer can bring in a factory-sealed, never before opened game and still be treated as though the game is used. Now I have to give my 'new' game the Goo-Gone treatment.
I noticed the employee put yet another sticker across the seal before handing the game back to me. I take it this additional seal is placed on the game to further enforce the notion it is a 'new' game, which means the employee could have given me the wrong game on error or a damaged copy of the game and gotten off without having to be responsible when the customer comes back to get a good copy of the game back. This makes it easy for the Gamestop employee to say 'I'm sorry. This seal is broken, so technically it is no longer new and we cannot refund your item as new games can only be returned if un-opened'.
What a bunch of crap. Does anyone agree with me?
