So is Wario Ware worth the $50??

airwavexiii

CAGiversary!
I have heard this is a very short game and can be beaten in about 2 1/2 hours the first play through, but about how long should it take to unlock all of the mirco games and modes?? I have both the GBA versions, how does Smooth Moves compare in length to those?

Nope. I was going to buy it.. rented it instead, beat it in a few hours and didn't touch it again. Glad I rented it.

I'm torn on this one. It's a great game, but it doesn't have much staying power. I beat the main game, unlocked all the microgames, and played about 10 hours of multiplayer...all within the first week after it was released.

Since then, I haven't played it at all. It's hard for me to recommend a full price purchase of this one. I would say it's probably worth about $30.

I think the problem is that:
1. In multiplayer, the microgames are too easy for veteran gamers - generally you will only fail if it's your first time playing a microgame or your movements aren't registering correctly. The point where it does become difficult is when the games are at their highest level - the problem is, most multiplayer games seem to end before then.
2. The multiplayer modes aren't varied enough. Once you're tired of one mode, you're probably tired of them all.

Yes it's totally worth the $50. Short or long doesn't apply to this kind
of game, it's an action game not an RPG. Super fun and innovative.

Not worth $50, though you can eek out a lot more value through multi-player.

Use coupons to get it cheaper if you feel you have to get it soon. Doesn't look like we'll be seeing a $39.99 sale any time soon. What's worse is that it might become rare like Wario Ware Touched for the DS did.

It's worth $50 if you have friends to play with. It's the whole point of the game; it's a party game.

ie: If you live alone in a cave and buy a Mario Party, you will never get the full enjoyment out of it.

I'm actually getting a lot of replay competing for the single player high scores against my wife. I thought it was a nice touch that they threw a few extra mini-games into each level that you don't get to see in the single player campaign., too.

No. But it's worth $30.00. Most of us CAGs didn't even buy it for full price, we used the $10.00 off coupon and got it for $39.99.

Not many games ARE worth $50...but did I regret paying full price for it on release day? No, I love all the WarioWare games. I'm a big sucker for them.

The Wii version will take some practice considering all the different hand configs, but once you get them down pat it's the same WarioWare you know and love.

i got it from some friends for my birthday. they popped it in at my birthday party and it kept a dozen of them entertained for 4 hours straight...and only half of them actually got a chance to play it. pretty good value there. they didn't even drink any of the booze, so my party was uber cheap thanks to Wario Ware.

I'm one of them! I also had $15 RZ money, so $25... :bouncy:

It is VERY short. For single player, definitely not worth $50. If you play A LOT of multiplayer, you'll get more for your money but I still don't see it as a $50 game. I'm planning to pick it up (I rented it and beat it) once it drops to $20.

Totally worth $50 if you're the kind of person who cares about unlocking everything/constantly going for highscores. If you plan to just beat it once, then yes, it's short. But I've invested over a dozen hours into Touched!, so I knew I'd get lots of replay value out of Smooth Moves. I was right.

No. I love it, but i got someone to buy it for me, yay!

I would of paid $20 for it. It's a really good game, but $50 is really unfair for it!!

It has even less content than the GBA titles, so, no.

Wario Ware is a magic game at the $25-$30 price point. Being on a home console doesn't change that.

I loved all of the other Wario Ware games and enjoyed this one but I'd have to say it's not worth $50. I haven't touched the game after 2 group sessions and it'll be a while before we touch it again. It will be played many more times, though... just not frequently. I think $30 would have been a sweet price for this.

Last Friday I had a whole bunch of people at my apartment. We all passed around the wiimote and had a blast. We laughed our asses off. Buy it if you have a lot friends coming over all the time or just rent it if you are having a gaming party or something.

It's a game that will give you hours over the long run. I played it a couple the first day then the second. Then a week later. And now 2 weeks later or so I picked it up again. IT's that kind of game.

It's still throwing new microgames at me. And actually all the modes don't end at the first boss. If you go play them again they go higher to 3 bosses and perhaps more albeit the bosses are the same only a bit harder/different.

My analogy is that something like Zelda is more like a novel whereas Wario is more like a board/card game.
Is Smooth Moves worth it to someone who has never played a WarioWare before (excluding a demo of Touched!)?
I'd say WarioWare is probably the most fun the first time because it's new and fresh.

It's not that the game isn't fun, but just that there isn't a whole lot of game there. Probably a rental or a $25 purchase at best.

I can only laugh at people who say this game is short. LOL!

You have been brainwashed by lazy game reviewers.

This is not an RPG! It has no length. It's a fucking arcade game!

What's your high score on Tower Tennis? Did you get the maximum
possible points and the game ended? LOL!

I agree with that

QFT. I'm sending this up to my drunken friends in Santa Cruz who shall perhaps get more use out of it than I did. Thankfully I used the $10 Best Buy coupon to ease the pain.

This is the single best game on the Wii right now for my 5 year old son. He beat it and it is still his favorite game. Everything else, with the exception of Sports is just too hard for him to control and play well.

He's actually playing Avatar (rented) right now but he just doesn't get all of the inventory / equipped items aspect of the game. But he loves to run around and explore and fight (he's better than I am with the Wii-controller moves).

I'd say it's worth it if people are gonna be over playing it on a consistent basis, otherwise rent. I'm glad i got it, i have friends that want to come over to play it and my girlfriend asks to play the crazy swing controller game.

I paid about $42 for Smooth Moves and I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed. I didn't expect much in the way of single player, but multiplayer is a big disappointment. I was hoping for some simultaneous multiplayer, a la Warioware Mega Microgames for Gamecube. What I get instead are some hot potato games that are just too quick for their own good. The Gamecube Warioware is the best multiplayer game I've ever played, so Smooth Moves just didn't live up to my expectations.

Yeah, Warioware: Mega Microgames had multiplayer that was a lot funner. I remember everyone in my house playing it all at once, and having an absolute blast -- really laughing our asses off.

It really wasn't the same with Warioware: Smooth Moves, I think we had a more enjoyable time playing Wii Sports.

Only if you will play the multiplayer mode.

The single player has even less replay than the GBA/DS games as there isn't anything to unlock after you open up all the micro games (i.e. you don't get flowers for getting a high score on a game, and unlock something when you get the high score on every minigame).

I love the game, but I have to say it's not worth full price. You can blow through the single player in a couple of hours, and even the multiplayer wears thin after a short while. It's a good game, don't get me wrong, but not $50 worth of game.

Of course not, you great ninny. No game is worth $50 or even close to $50.

This is CAG. The value of a game should not be even considered until the price is at least 20% off the SRP.
Its worth it if you like to finish games in under 3 hours.
What's your high score in Tower Tennis, big guy?

There is no 'finish' to this game. Did you even read the thread?

Sorry, but playing for high scores lost its appeal with the Atari. Even more so with the lack of the flowers for high scores and something to unlock by getting one for each micro game like in the GBA games.

I did that in all three GBA/DS games, and never touched them again. The lack of that mode in this game gives it even less replay value for me personally. The GBA games were worth the $30, I can't see paying more than $20 for this.

I'm more than happy to let my Wii gather dust (like it has been since finishing Zelda in Dec.) until some more substantive games come out.

QFT.

Just be patient and trade another CAG'er for it.... they are starting to show up already on the trade threads. Dump one of your launch games and try it out... it is quite fun when you have had a little to drink...

EDIT - assuming you are old enough, of course :)

Just played it again with my kids tonight. We still have several microgames to unlock (and when you get them all there is a new minigame unlocked). We've put at least 10-15 hours into it so far. Also, we've only made one attempt at unlocking all the elephant levels (have 2 of 4 only so far).

I think the people saying 3 hours are being a bit ridiculous. Yeah, that might be how long it takes to power through to the credits (if you are really good). But there is SOME unlockable content in the game. Maybe not as much as the GBA versions, but some nonetheless. We are still a few hours from getting all those microgames (I just figured out tonight you could see which ones are still locked within each story - d'oh!, I had just been guessing before). By the way, that's where the flowers are in this game (you get one for each "story" as you unlock all the microgames for it).

And all of this is just on my son's game. I still have my own game to play through and unlock everything, and my daughter wants to do the same.

And I'm not even talking multiplayer here.

So, while I can see $50 being a bit much for it, I think it is definitely worth $30, and you will probably be able to get it for close to that with some deal or another in the near future. If you have more than one person in your household interested in playing (single-player or multi-player) it makes it much more worthwhile.

Your loss.

No loss at all. Save my $50 and have a ton of fun playing more substantive games on the PS2, DS and PC.

That's a win win in my book. ;)

Yes I read the thread. The question was, is the game worth $50? My answer was no, since I was able to finish the single player game in under 3 hours. I didn't see much replay value after that. What part of that didn't you get?

Actually, this game was the reason I sold my Wii. The whole Wii gimmick wore of quick with me. I'm having much more fun with the 360 at this point.
