So... my PS3 crapped out. Time to get a Wii.

I've had my Playstation 3 for two years and recently it decided to start overheating, no big deal I thought, called Sony and they expected me to pay $150 LOL. See ya later Sony!! :booty:

It's Nintendo time. At least they care about their customers. And from what I hear they don't build a system that barely out lasts it's warranty.

It is *never* Nintendo time. My PS3 also just died, another $150 to repair, and no way in HELL would Nintendo get a cent out of me. "care about their customers"? Bullshit. They want your money more than Sony does, at least Sony releases the games we want, not charge us another small fortune in addons for each remote each year in order to play current games.

Oh, and failed fanboy attempt, seriously. At least make your post longer than two short... half-paragraph things. Try some more effort.
How does a PS3 just suddenly decide to "overheat"? My PS3 (launch 60) has never even gotten warm to the touch.
I don't know. I noticed mine started feeling like two 360s stacked on top of each other, then the next day it's laser was completely fried, stopped reading blu-rays, period. Previous day it would crash within 5 minutes of loading a game/sporadically read discs.

Edit - 360 RROD, obvious, fast. PS3 RROD, subliminal, slow-acting.

PS3's DO overheat... but only when they are kept in enclosed entertainment centers... my cousins overheated twice until he figured out he needed to keep it on top of his unit next to the TV... it was basically turning the enclosed part into an oven.

So.. you have games and accessories for one system, but you refuse to pay $150 to get it fixed and instead you want to pay more to start from scratch with another system? I guess that makes sense... or something.

My PS3 overheated last month. Difference between me and the OP is that I was more than willing to pay the $150. Ended up getting a brand new unit.

I actually just bought a Wii myself, but that doesn't change my opinion that Nintendo has largely turned its back on its core fanbase this generation.

My 60gb is in an open rack (on the very top) and it is starting to show signs of it. I am getting split video display, or green hue on half the image after 3 hours of use. I checked the HDMI cables and tried a different display and it's definitely the the PS3.

I hope I can get another yea out of my 60. As of right now I use it in 2 hour intervals.

I find it kinda hard to want to purchase a console if it's overheating... xbox and ps3....

As for preventing... see if you can pick up a vornado fan, some 8-9 inch and blow that on top of it or maybe to the side to blow the heat away.

Do those intercoolers really work?

I've noticed most of the threads about a 360 or ps3 dieing is a new guy posting it or at least that is the way it seems lately. My PS3 gets extremely hot. I don't think a Wii is the answer to your PS3 death op. Get a 360 or get that PS3 repaired. You will buy the Wii enjoy it for a while, and then wonder why you even bought it. ;)

Fanboy :whistle2:#

ACTUALLY... I love my PS3, but I'm not paying $150 every two months. They fix it, ship it back, I play for a month or two and it stops working AGAIN. Sony just wants to suck the life right out of your wallet, I agree Nintendo is kinda bad about this too (Wii wheel etc.) but they build a great system that LASTS. Yeah sure the graphics department could use some life support... but still. Don't call someone a fanboy until you get your facts.

Yeah I knew someone would eventually say that... I'm not new to PS3, Xbox, Wii and PC forums though... just this site.

But thanks for your input.

Yeah I never even mentioned I've had my PS3 repaired multiple times did I?

Great system that last? That's a good one. My first Wii got so it got disc errors, and eventually wouldn't play anything. The only system out of this gen I've had that hasn't died is the PS3, and no I'm not a fanboy. How many times has your ps3 messed up on you? I just read you said you had it repaired multiple times.

I never said Nintendo didn't, but I'd love to have a system I can depend on...
Sometimes I wonder why Sony hasn't went bankrupt....

Yes, I agree there. BUT it was the very first Wii's to ever hit the shelfs that did that. Or from what I read anyway. Now from what I hear they work perfectly fine.

In the long run I will save hundreds my friend... Sony is a joke.
I've had it fixed 3 times. Add it up bucko.

3 times = 450. I honestly doubt I would pay to have mine fixed after it died. It already cost me 600 to start with. I've had it 2 years, and the only problem I ever had was the hdmi cable having handshaking issues.

Exactly. I'm not just being a douche. Sony is literally sucking my wallet dry. I'm tired of dealing with it. Maybe when their next system comes out I'll give them another chance, but PS3 is now "EPIC FAIL" in my book.

That's how I feel far as the 360 hardware goes. I'm on my 5th one, and If it still didn't let you install the games to the hard drive, and run them I would be on my 6th or 7th one. The one I have now gets disc errors all the time, but also it is a refurbished one from MS.

Yeah I feel your pain. Hell if I had it my way I'd keep my PS3. But I can't keep paying for it. It's a great system though... gonna miss the games. It's gonna kill me. But it's also going to save me some cash.

That's another thing haha I wanted a 360, but I heard they're still screwing up, so that's where the Wii came into play.

Well what model of ps3 do you have? Did you buy it new?

The point with Nintendo is you're going to pay out the ass for games and for accessories. I've had all three, and let me tell you after about a month the fun of the Wii wears off...

Enjoy Dead Rising on the Wii! Worst idea in years...

80gb and yes it was brand spankin' new.
I dunno why it started acting up out of no where. I bought mine at launch from GameStop.

I don't play to waste any money or the accessories. Just the games. We'll see though. Rent a Center has them for rent, I could always rent it and see if I really want it.

This man speaks the truth. Back when it first came out it goes a little something like this. OMG the Wii is sold out I can't get one, and finally you got one. For around a month you play it, and enjoy it. The OMG I FINALLY GOT A Wii!!!! Slowly turns into OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I BOUGHT A Wii!!!!!!! :bomb:

If your playstaion 3 is having a hard time reading games/blu-rays it's probably not the over heating. I had the same problem with mine, freezing & having a hard time reading disks. It turned out to be the laser in the system.

I researched it and found a lot of complaints about the laser issue. The biggest thread I could find was over at the playstation forums HERE It talks about how someone had the same problem and decided to fix it on his own.

My console was still under warranty - by 2 weeks - so i didn't have to pay the $150.

i seriously doubt you've paid $150 each time you've had it fixed, if you've had it fixed that many times. Sony gives 3 month warranty each time they fix, you need to use the crap out of the thing for the first 3 months to make sure it's not another bad unit. You just need to use a bit more common sense and it wouldnt be a big deal. That being said, consoles are a different game now, more fragile and cost more, it goes for all 3.

Well, I can't blame you since your experiences have drastically soured your perspective on Sony. I just have to object because you're making the PS3 out to be a rampart failbox which is more the exception than the rule. My 60gb has worked fine for me even through heavy use during a winter where my apartment was constantly 80 degrees and I use it for gaming, dvds/bd, media sharing, folding@home, wireless internet, most of the capabilities it has.

I'm with kube when I say that your Wii experience is going to come up short if you loved what the PS3 had to offer (when it worked). Controllers run $40 plus nuchuk $20 plus Wm+ $20.. $80 for a complete controller. HD space is limited, 3rd party support produces mostly shovelware.. the serious game companies aren't getting many people to buy 'adult' 'traditional' games anymore, no demos, no real internet offerings. Don't get me wrong, I've had one since launch because I'm a sucker for Nintendo 1st party games, but even then I still never use it.

I say this through clenched teeth, because I still believe it's BS a hardware company has yet to really fix their console's flaws four years after release, but maybe consider a 360 arcade before the Wii.. your experience will be similar only you won't have to pay to get it fixed for at least three years. I absolutely hate that they get away with it, but I'm close to getting a 360 myself due to the fact that games are cheaper and I have a few friends that have one. (No way I'd give up the PS3 though, will remain my primarly platform).

Yeah I don't see a problem with a 360. I may do that. :)

Thanks for saying that because now I'm REALLY pissed.
I only got a THIRTY DAY warranty.... upon getting the system back.

wtf? :wall:

A guy at work yesterday said his Wii died on him suddenly. He called and it's a flat $85 repair or replace so Wii's can die as well nothing is bulletproof. Especially not the 360 i'm on my 5th since release and have a arcade spare in my closet as a backup for the next time it dies. :D

haha a Wii to sub a PS3... might as well get a gamecube

the only reason why your ps3 keep dying is cause you are not taking proper care of the system

my launch 60gb is still going and i play it A LOT.

$85 is a lot easier on my wallet that $150.
I know all electronics eventually die, but you rarely hear about the Wii having problems.
For the most part.

Ehhh, I disagree. I mean, it's not as bad as the 360 for sure, but they definitely die, I think my sister's died 10 days out of the box.

I bought a PS3 in March but had to return it since it wouldn't work with my old ass projection TV that didn't have HDMI ports and didn't support 720p. I got a Wii, and I definitely do not regret it. The Wii has much better exclusives, in my opinion, and non-exclusives, I'd get on the 360 anyway. So while I do want a PS3, I would rank the Wii ahead of it based on exclusive games alone, if you're a lifelong Nintendo fan like I am.

Obvious troll post is obvious.

I'm not trolling in the slightest. I didn't say anything bad about the PS3. I said I wanted one and in fact would own one now (and not a Wii) had my TV been able to run the system. I said that I prefer Nintendo's exclusive first party games to Sony's exclusives. That's just my opinion.

Sony's exclusives are very good, too. I'd love to own a PS3 with Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, MLB 09, Metal Gear Solid 4, Ratchet and Clank, and inFamous.

Why not just buy your consoles at Sam's or Costco? Even if the warranty is done, they'll do an exchange for you. That or you can just suck it up and pay for the extended warranty from a big box like Best Buy or Target.

I didn't think of that. :dunce:
Thanks. I guess that is a pretty good solution.

Yeah I agree. I've played all Sony's exclusives and they are very fun, but it's not worth it if I keep having to pay to get this rust bucket repaired. The Wii has some pretty sweet games too. But yeah as everyone else said Nintendo aims their games at younger kids... which sucks. Nintendo has so much potential. :whistle2:|

Indeed. I definitely would not want the Wii as my only system. But the games that are good are REALLY good. I play Animal Crossing daily. Super Mario Galaxy is the best 3D Mario game. Kart and Smash Bros. are excellent for multiplayer. I haven't even opened Twilight Princess or No More Heroes yet, but those are both supposed to be great games.

You're never going to get people to admit that the Wii is a good system. They've already made up their mind. They played a couple games and decided it sucks. You'll have a better chance of getting someone to change from a Democrat to Republican or vice versa.

Play what you want to play. Bigdawg, you'll learn that threads like these do nothing but invite flame wars from people that will tell you that your choices suck. You will never convince them that all three consoles and both handhelds have great games to play.

Nintendo is just as bad as the other companies when it comes to repairs. The top screen on my first DS broke 2-3 months after the year warranty was up and they wanted approximately $100 to fix it. If a system breaks it is expensive to repair no matter what company it is from.
