I hate doing the list thing, but in it's first year, 360 had Geometry Wars, DOA4, Fight Night, Oblivion, GRAW, Saint's Row, Dead Rising, Tomb Raider, Gears, Rainbow Six, Not to mention a more rounded launch lineup. Of those, only Gears and R6 came out at the end of the year.
Not to mention if you're going to ask $600 to your competitor's $400, you better be offering even more than they have by that much. Unfortunately, that's not the case in software, and it won't be for a long time.
PS3 reminds me of the N64 in that first year. I'm sure they'll pull out of it, but not before the Wii gets a big leg up on both of them. Good thing the PS2 is still selling, and the PSP is waking up from being the hype machine.
What was the problem with SF2T? Lag issues were mostly resolved after the launch.. I played it a ton and didn't notice problems aside from the usual lag that happens when you plug netcode into a 15 year old arcade game that wasn't made for netplay.. You really don't lose any chance to say something negative against everyone but Sony, do you?
I really don't care about your list of 360 games (for one thing, I was comparing the same length of time, and you seem to be adding fall and winter '06.) I didn't provide an exhaustive list and I sure as hell am not going to come up with a comparison chart of every single last game that came out within the time period for both systems. When all is said and done, PSN games and all, they're about equal to me. 3 of those games are out or on the way for the PS3 as well...it'll really come down to your personal opinion. You see the N64 launch, I see something nearly identical to the 360 launch. I also remember just about everyone bitching about the lack of games to play this time last year. plus, each one has something the other doesn't. thus, "subjectively speaking." My list of good 360 games would be very different, and the games I like on the PS3 thus far, I like better. I make use out of everything the system has except 1080p, so the price is worth it to me. Is that okay or will this not end until I concede that my opinion is wrong?
I do have negative things to say about the PS3. plenty. As for Sony the corporation, I don't care. A PR guy's attitude doesn't influence my purchasing choices one way or another. I guess that's why I can enjoy Team Ninja games too.
the whole PR angle is surely the dumbest point of criticism people have these days on gaming forums. All of these guys from Reggie to Krazy Ken to Peter Moore--they're all arrogant shmucks--that's how they became successful business men.
and oh boy, SF2...the lag issues were not resolved. that's not what happens when you plug netcode into a 15 year old game. that's what happens when your devs are lazy as shit on a stick and/or incompetent. There are plenty of examples of old games that are online that run fine--namely UMK3 and MK2 (on the PS3.) I play the game with fighter thread people every once in a while, we get "Establishing Connection" messages every few matches. And what the hell is up with character select screen lagging like crazy all the time. It plays well enough, but for a 15 year old game that took almost a year to port, it's pretty rough around the edges. When I hop from SF3 online, to SF2, the difference is just mind boggling...there's no excuse.
