I fell for the hype and imported one a few weeks back and it came with a dead pixel. I ended up being pissed and sold on eBay for a loss of about $30. I just wanted to play the New Super Mario Bros. on the Lite. Now that I have almost collected all the coins in the NSMB I do not think I will be using my DS as much plus college is almost over for the spring.

Are any current DS owners jumping on the Lite just for the comfy redesign?
 
Maybe someday... but to me it's not as worth it as it was to upgrade from the GBA to the GBA SP. I mean, it looks really slick, has a brighter screen, etc... But I am perfectly happy with my current DS.
 
I'm glad(really I am)that there are people on half.com that think the same as Diiz.

I sold my fatty this week, and two DS games I never play, I'll get the Lite Sunday for no money out of pocket.
 
Where is the choice for 'No, my original DS works just fine?'

I have a launch DS and it does everything it was advertised to deliver. The DS Lite is nice and all, but not a cause for so much excitement that my original investment is now somehow lacking. Until my original DS dies I see no reason to even consider getting a DS Lite unless I'm offered one for a drastic discount. Say $50 or less.

I tried out the Lite at a store and the changes just don't make much difference to me. There might easily be yet another improved model before my original DS croaks, so I may as well hold out for that.
 
If and only if I need a second DS or my original DS has issues will I get a Lite. I've tried it, and it's nice, and occasionally I'm disappointed that I can't really play it outside too much, but that's a rare occurrence, so I can deal with it.

Hmm... really? I was thinking of throwing my DS on eBay so I can get two DS Lites in the next month, but I was thinking I could only fetch like $80.00
 
I have one paid off at EB games, but Im starting to question if I'm going to pick one up or not. I have a DS already, and the only game I see myself buying in the near future for the DS is Final Fantasy 3. I think I may just take that credit and get Titan Quest and Valkyrie Profile PSP instead. I honestly can not make up my mind. :D
 
Sold my O.G. DS (Mario Kart bundle) just before E3 on Ebay...that way the general public wouldn't know about the Lite coming out soon and I could get as much as possible for the regular DS.

Wound up getting $130 for it, which pays for my DS Lite. I'll have to buy Mario Kart again but no big deal. For some reason Nintendo gave me two Mario Kart wrist straps with my original DS, so I still have one of those left. Oh JOY.

I'm looking for that option as well. I'll probably wait till they are $70 or something. I don't play nearly enough of it to justify buying the same system again.
 
I'm completely content with my eletric blue DS :bouncy:. But if they offered me a brushed steel DS lite (real metal, no plastic imitation BS) i'd be tempted...
 
I have 2 DS's (silver at launch + a blue one later) and my lite is already on its way to me. I know this upgrade is pretty minimal but Nintendo usually does a quality job of making it worthwhile. The screens look sick on the lite. It's the system that finally screams whatcha ya got now Mr. PSP?

I at one time had 2 SP's and then swaped one for the newer brighter screen. I traded that one in because it was a graphite one and the d-pad had that weird problem. I still have my launch silver SP. I just saw the newer SP in the store again and saw how great it was so I may get a pearl blue one and dump the old one.

I guess I bought 2 of each machine as sort of a backup...its kind of silly because one just ends up sitting around. So if I really dig the lite the old gameboy sp and the 2 old DS's will be sold.

Nintendo definitely knows handhelds and how to get me to buy them.
 
I'm passing my MK Red Ds down to my GF soon, and I'll get the nice new Lite. Its so hard going from my Micro to my DS...let alone my SP (Ouch)
 
I have a DS and was going to originally get the DS Lite this coming Sunday. I decided to hold off and wait a little while before getting it. My current DS works perfectly fine and I'm saving myself $130.
 
I had a DS, sold it, and am getting a Lite. While the DSL does nothing new, I find the DS to be pretty... unfitting compared to the rest of my electronics even though I still love it more than anything.

I'm not one for style over substance but the as far as I see it, the DSL has some major benefits over the regular DS: it's lighter, the brighter screen will be easier on the eyes, the button layout has been improved (with that sweet Micro d-pad), and with a smaller overall size the touch screen will be easier to use for those games that require both the touch screen & face buttons.

Now I know that Nintendo will inevitably release another revision but I figure that I can always sell this for a decent amount towards the revision. Plus, my brother never uses his DS so I'll have something to fall back on.
 
I'm also looking for the 'No, I'm fine with the original DS' option.

Tried one of the DS Lite demo units out at Target, didn't like the color or the way the D-Pad felt. I like the size and feel of my current DS and see any reason to trade in towards a smaller version.
 
I bought the DS for my g/f but found myself playing it all the time. I managed to keep from buying my own until the Lite comes out. (my PSP collects dust)
 
I want a Lite, I have my fat DS and can't wait to give it to my girlfriend. I would give my bestfriend's left nut for a DSLite.

My thoughts exactly. After trading in my DS and some cheap games, the upgrade will cost me less than $30. I figure, might as well upgrade while my DS is worth something and while trade-in deals are active.
 
I'm in the "No, my original DS works just fine" category. The Lite sounds interesting, but I don't like the fact that it's smaller (having had nerve problems in my wrist before, I like my stuff to be as ergonomic as possible). Yeah, I know the Lite has a larger stylus, but I can always get a new stylus for my current DS.
 
I thought I was for a while, but I've convinced myself not to, for the following reasons:

a) I already have a DS that works fine, and I'll probably need to replace it someday ANYWAY, maybe an accident or the battery wears down or something.
a2) At this distant point in the future, they will probably bundle the DSL with a game I'll want anyway

b) It would be borderline hypocritical of me to puchase a machine with no added functionality just for a prettier screen, given how anti-graphics/resolution I am.
 
I vote for the "the3rdkey is an idiot" option.

You ask people who own the DS to take the poll but the only way to say no is to also claim to not play handhelds or to have a PSP?

So basically you're asking people that do not own the original DS.
 
No point in getting a Lite, the original DS is fine as it is.
 
I'm getting the Lite so I can send my original DS to my brother (who has none) for his birthday, along with some used and new games. He lives on the other side of the country now and one of our favorite things to do when he visits is play GameCube, so I thought playing DS via WiFi would be a nice way for us to do that while in our respective corners of the continent.
 
Yea, for this week only GS/EB/GC are offering 70 for the old DS...still kinda a rip-off, but I will trade mine in likely tomorrow or sunday just because I got mine for 100 during the Target typo and I don't mind eating 30 to get the new screen and stuff...I might wait a while before getting the new DS, maybe when the next killer app comes out...I think I can resist wanting to play most of my games till then...I guess I should finish NSMB tonight though so I can stomach parting with it...

How is $70 a rip off?

Current Ebay values for the DS by itself range anywhere from $70 - $80 for a used DS... when you factor in fees and customer satisfaction, it's far easier, quicker, and safer to just dump it at a Gamestop for $70 straight up and never have to worry about it again.

Mine has some dead pixels, rather then worry about a potential Ebay buyer problem I'm going to dump mine tommorrow at GS and let them deal with it. $70 is a really good deal... using the CAGwiki, I just got trade-in values for 12 shitty games I have just sitting around, so combined with the trade 4 get an extra $10 deal, I'm getting $140 in credit.

It's like getting a DS Lite for free, and I'm turning these games I have just sitting around into something I'll use very often. $70 is damn good espically since Gamestop trade in values and Ebay prices are going to drop once the Lite hits the mainstream.

I meant because Nintendo released a new f**kin DS that I lack the willpower to resist and thus will have to eat 30 dollars.

I agree, its a great deal for GS/EB, but I would be much less tempted if I'd paid full price (130) for my DS to begin with.

I guess the "ripoff" comment was more venting because this good deal is going to make me trade my old DS in (which is dead pixel free and had screen protectors on since day 1) and be DS-less for a while until I'm back in my home town and go about getting a new Lite (I will try to wait as long as possible for a bundle or a Black US Lite)...

I was going to try and resist too...damn you GS/EB...damn you...
 
Maybe when the price drops. There's really not much of a point in buying another right now since it's not like there's games I can't play on the regular DS... and it's not like the transition from the GBA to the GBA SP because the DS is perfectly funcional and has a backlight that's fine as it is.

I thought this too but I just tried the demo at Gamestop, and New Super Mario Bros looks amazing on that screen... it dosen't look as washed out as it does on the regular DS screen.

The system looks amazing.
 
I bought a used DS last summer, and as it turns out, it really bothers me to know some stranger played my system first...so I'm totally selling my DS and getting a Lite at launch.

For me, the screen brightness (aside from playing in the car with the sun on it) isn't a big feature...I'm more looking for the lighter weight / nicer face buttons / attractive design.
 
I'm upgrading. The videos showing how much brighter the screen are sealed it for me.

And I'm hoping the longer stylus and smaller size/lighter weight, will make me be able to play Metroid for more than 20 minutes without my hands cramping.

Plus the price is good, and there aren't really any games coming out over the summer on any of the consoles I want, so it's an easy decision.
 
I already have my DS Lite and I love it. The sleeker design, brighter screens, better face buttons, and lighter weight all made it a must purchase for me. After seeing a Japanese one awhile ago I wanted it. Now I have on of my own and I am not dissappointed at all. To me in 10 times better than the orginal design. I do wish Nintendo just released the light to begin with, but if you do trade in your old DS for $70 at EB/GS, its worth $60 bucks to upgrade.
