A few months back, I decided to take it upon myself and create my own list of top 100 games. I'd check and update my list once a week and noticed that I'm just shuffling games back and forth. I figured now would be the best time to finally post this thing before it takes me another few months where I'll still be shuffling games around.

Concerning the list, only games released before January 31st, 2006 counted. Not that it'll make a big of a difference since I've yet to play a 2006 game. Also, I used SimpleViewer to create the "presentation". I figured, if I'm not gonna read a list where there's just text, then why even bother doing one myself? So I took some time creating the list with my experiences, what I thought about the game, what could've been changed, random information, etc. to keep my readers (you) interested. Without further ado, here it is:

The List!

My list may contain a few inside jokes that pertains to other members of another forum, so don't be confused if you don't get something.

A few notes:
Socheata86: While making the list, I also noticed that I've never really played a 2D Final Fantasy. :whistle2:(
Wibblewozzer: That's because you're dumb
Socheata86: STFU! :whistle2:x
Wibblewozzer: At least I'm not the dumb one

I do realize that I've yet to play a ton of games or had little time with certain ones. For example, the Metal Gear Solid series, most of the Metroid games, all of the Grand Theft Autos, Super Mario 64, Xenogears/Xenosaga, 2D Final Fantasys, Guitar Hero, God of War, Panzer Dragoons, Sonic the Hedgehogs, actually, pretty much all of the Genny and Saturn games. The same goes for the PC where games such as Half-Life 2, Battlefield 2, F.E.A.R., World of Warcraft, Call of Duty 2, and Civilization IV where I never had a chance to play them. Lastly, the 360 games; I don't have a 360 yet and the only games I've played so far are Project Gotham Racing 3, King Kong, and Call of Duty 2. However, my play time was limited.

If the list seems a bit biased towards music and fighting games, then it should be clear that I'm a fan of those genres.

Oh, and there's at least one game I regret forgetting about. After I finished the graphics for everything, my little brother asked me "what about Amplitude?". Neutral I forgot about Amplitude! *sigh* If I had remembered about it, it would probably be in the top 50. I'm currently playing through Advance Wars DS and I can see it making on my list, but I haven't given then game all that much time yet (only 3 hours in).

A few mistakes on the list:
Grammar mistake in Resident Evil (GCN) entry. "and and left"
Grammar mistake in WWF Wrestlemania 2000 (N64) entry. "are now $49.99"
Super Mario Bros. (All-Stars Version) pic is of The Lost Levels.
Pipsy from Diddy Kong Racing is not Pixie.
Star Wars: Episode 1: Racer picture is not the Arcade version but is from the N64/DC version.
Street Fighter II: Balrog is Bison, Bison is Vega, Vega is Balrog. I hurried to create this whole thing that I confused myself. haha

#1 - All flash list? No HTML version? Way to alienate your audience..

#2 - The "next" button is like.. blank. You should probably fix that.

#3 - Chrono Trigger at #63? Halo 2 at #12? Are you kidding me? The storyline was easily one of the worst in years!

#4 - WTF at Dragon Quest 8's picture!? (#14)

You really need to play older games. Where's Earthbound? Illusion of Gaia? Indigo Prophecy? Snatcher? Policenauts? Phoenix Wright?

List = thumbs down (though I couldn't do any better.. but i'd make my list HTML, this flash took forever to load and is slowing my computer down like crazy)

#1. Yeah, I know that when creating something in flash, it will alienate some viewers. I'd rather do something like this than to "just" list a game and then write a little blurb about it.
#2. That's actually the software's problem. -_- I have no control over it.
#3. I didn't play Halo 2 for the story.
#4. If you read the comment, it'd explain it...

Again, I knew that I was gonna be criticized for not playing older games (never had a chance to play most of 'em). And I was on a gaming slump last year, so most of 2005's games went unplayed by me. I'm playing catch up, though.

And just to get it out of the way, this is my list and not a definitive list that represents "everyone's" opinion. I did this to show at another site and since I'm here, I might as well post it.

nice! i don't think i'll get through it all tonight, but it's a very fun read. the flash is slick, though scorch is right about the hidden "next" button.

the mark of the wolves entry was funny as hell

Well done. I didn't know you were "AznGrl" in Guild Wars. That name sounds very familiar. I might have partyed with you at least once....Well anyway, nice list.

*Scorch: Seems like there's no pleasing ya. haha. Actually, I'm playing Final Fantasy I at the moment. I'm sure I'll get to the other 2D FFs.
*paz9x: I love DDR. =/

The page was running fine before I posted it up but seems to be chugging along slowly now. Extremely slow. :whistle2:(

Fantastic job man! I really like the layout, pictures, and general organization of the whole thing.:)

I just don't agree with your rankings. For example, I think FFX and especially FFX-2 were WAY too high, I actually found it laughable. Chrono Trigger was indeed placed way too low but you did give Chrono Cross a good place (though Trigger should be higher). I also think that your list deters some of the older classics in favor of newer games. I'm just getting a... 'young' vibe from this list, as if the person who composed it really hasn't gamed all that long. As Scorch was implying, you seemed to have missed out on some of the greatest 2D games.

Of course, my opinion is mine and yours is yours. Opinions about the rankings aside, I think your presentation is absolutely fantastic.:applause:

EDIT* Just a note, the nice works fine and loads up fairly quickly for me. The only thing that doesn't work is the next arrow, it doesn't show up unless you move your mouse.

oh yeah-- you don't even need "grl" or anything like that in your guild wars name. just using a girl character is enough

nice list. I just kinda browsed through them, didn't have time to read. I was gonna post and ask if you have played metal gear solid, then I read that you haven't in your OP. Was wondering why it wasn't on there.

It's not that you can't please me, it's just that you ranked them for total bullshit reasons. It's like making a "best movies ever!" and only putting a movie on your list because an actor you like is in it.

*daewezzy: I've been in many parties, so chances are, I probably did partied with you.
*Vinny: I appreciate the comments. Making this list, I just knew someone will start to question my rankings. But I stand by it (my list, after all). Final Fantasy X was one of the few games that I've actually played 100+ hours of, and Final Fantasy X-2's combat system was frantic and fun. As for Chrono Trigger, I came to playing that game very late. It was 2004 that I actually had a chance to play it. Well, I played it on a rom/emu before, but that doesn't count. >_<
*dpatel: My friends nag on me for having never finished a Metal Gear Solid game. Right now, I have Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes on my next rotation of games to play along with Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Metroid Prime, Grandia II, and Splinter Cell. Like I said before, I'm playing catch up.
*Scorch: My list doesn't contain all the reasons why I have the game on there. I just think it's boring to write praises over and over. I didn't create this list in the vein of what other lists you may have seen (IGN, EGM, GameSpot, etc.).

If anything, making this list just shows that I really missed out on some great games. Pre-1999, my parents would only purchase one game a year for me. If lucky, I'll get two. So I didn't have many options as a kid to play games. Now that I'm 20 yrs. old, I buy 50+ games a year and only play a few. haha

Awesome, Socheata. I liked it enough to go through all 100 games, heh.

I'm sure he's not providing the sole reasons he ranked the games. I mean, I doubt he ranked Final Fantasy X and X-2 at #21 and #20 because they had hot cosplayers.

Sorry Scorch, but this is a bullshit comment IMHO. Who are you to tell Soch his reasons were bull? This list his his opinion and based on his likes and dislikes and his experiences with the games. It was never claimed that this list should be taken as fact. I'll bet if you made a list, there would be people who thought your reasons were bullshit, and they'd be wrong.

EDIT: Nice work by the way, Soch! I didn't read it all, but it was nicely put together. I was glad to see alot of Street Fighter in there!

Last I checked, the title of the list was "Soch's 100 Best Games Ever"... not "The 100 Best Games Ever".

Even though I absolutely do not agree with his list, I'm not ignorant to fact that it's his fucking list.

Good presentation.

it's not YOUR favorite games list, it's SOCHEATA's favorite games list. get over it!

Lol, yeah what's up with that pic? Also I disagree with so many of your choices I'm not even going to say anything besides Why in the hell is FFx-2 above FF7?!?!?! Great presentation though.

One error you need to correct: Donkey Kong Country 2 did not feature waterfall levels, those are included in DKC 3: Dixie's Double Trouble.

There's really nothing I can say that wouldn't be insulting about a list that includes 3 DDRs and 2 Karaoke Revolution titles (and I didn't even get half way through the list yet).

You have lost all credibility with this list. I saw these and stopped looking because I felt I was wasting time:

22: Final Fantasy X-2
12: Halo 2
2: Perfect Dark
3: Pokemon

Then, you also gave very high marks for remade versions of Mario, not the originals?

Nice effort, but you over looked too many games. The criteriera you used to rate these is also flawed, that is fact, not opinion.

The list is neat, but I just disagree with pretty much every single ranking on that list.

Have you beaten all these games? If this is a list of all the gams you have beaten that are your favorites, that is completely different and I take back everything, except the credibility on what makes a good game (Halo 2 @ #12?! FFX-2 @ #22?!).

His list provides a nice presentation for us to see what his top 100 games are. It's not meant to see if it's similar to your list in any way. No 2 people will play the same game the same exact way; some ppl play because it has good graphics, some like the storyline more, some want replay value, and some want to play because of the company. We all rank games based on different values, and not one of them would be 100% correct since we all rank games differently based on what each of us likes, not what the masses like. And the list is based on what he played, not based on every single game that came out for every single system in the past 30 years. Don't you get it?

Nice job overall!

Another mistake I noticed. #53 Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - you have it listed as a Game Boy Advance game.

oh cmon, its his opinion, lay off. or rather, why dont you put some effort into your list so we can berate you with unnecessary comments with no backing

soch, a nice list, i cant agree with it all, but i just might agree with you number 1. i know i probably never settle on 100 games, let alone put that much effort into making a list in flash. kudos to you.

Good job on presentation and good list, I don't agree with a lot of it but thats the point of those lists. I haven't got through much of it but Ms. Pac man at 99? Oh the quarters!

I like this.

YOU ENJOYED THIS GAME MORE THAN THAT GAME? OBVIOUSLY IM SMARTER THAN YOU

I'd go through and nitpick each individual comment, but I'm sure anyone reading this thread can realize how stupid most of you sound anyways, so whatever.

EDIT: Oh yeah, awesome idea, by the way. Enjoyed reading the entire thing, especially the King of Fighter =D.

IDK how you can complain about Socheata choices, it's his favorites list, not yours.
Nice work, it must have taken forever to make that. I front paged it.

I don't agree with the whole list (or about half of it), but it was an interesting read and very well-presented. Good job!

Very nice list. I see your caveats about not having played older games, and I understand them. Like others have said this is a shame but I can't fault you for it. I commend you for making an effort to catch up.

Just a note about Tekken -

Hwoarang is referred to as 'Bob' simply because his name is bat-shit difficult to pronounce, or at least it's perceived to be difficult.

I like your top 100, pretty cool.. I dont agree with some, like perfect dark in #2... but otherwise pretty nice. Of course, people who lose their shit over your opinions when its just free media/opinions seriouly need to get a life.

Good list, dont agree with some, but you have good taste. And personally, I thought the flash was very nice.
this flash took forever to load and is slowing my computer down like crazy)
Computer = Ass

Wow, nicely put together. I really like the presentation aspect of it and I could certainly see how all those games could be in someone's top 100.

I'm actually working on a different sort of top 100 of my own, but since I have no graphic skills, it's going to be pathetic now. Oh well.

 1. X-Men vs Street Fighter?! 3 DDR games?! Something else I'm not too happy about you chose?
Wow, you suck OP! You've lost all credibility and I hate you! Just go cry in a ditch somewhere, f00l!

Lol, just kidding. I just thought all the people getting angry at the OP were kinda funny! I dont agree with alot of the choices, but no ones top 100 lists are going to be the same and this one was very well put together, better than most people here could do.

Still, I cant be nice to someone who put Perfect Dark on the list (let alone at number 2!!!). And Smash Bros. Melee in the top 10 (number 4 yet?)? Bleh! So, OP, you are officially the suxorz! ;)

Really liked the list. Are your reasons for ranking the games the way you did bull-shit? Absolutely not. Halo 2 is one of my all-time favorite games too, and for just about the same reasons.

Nice list and presentation. Do not listen to those who think their lists are better. Everybody has their own taste and may not have played every game on the planet.

Yet
