Something big heading to the VC?
My moneys on handheld systems, say original GB (zelda links awakening) or game gear, or even neo geo pocket or something obscure like that.
I would buy Zelda Links Awakening in a heartbeat, even though I already played it when the GBC version came out, but seeing as it doesn't work with the DS, that would be amazing...

Am I mistaken, or will Nintendo continue to announce each Monday's VC releases on the preceding Friday? Also, is this something to be expecting next week, or just an announcement of forthcoming something?

Maybe "Not Console" means handheld?

I've been hoping for handheld emulation since day one, but are there really any handheld games the retro community has been clamoring for?
How do we know any of this is even real?
The first hint towards something exciting coming on the VC was written in a UK gaming magazine, which is pretty damn legit. Although everyone is giving credit to GoNintendo, they actually just posted a transcription of the original printed column from a magazine. Check the links posted earlier for a picture of the column in the magazine, and a link to the new bit of info posted by an employee on an official forum linked to the magazine.

And Mykevermin, I think you're right about the announcement schedule. I can't wait for this Friday!

It has already been confirmed that the developer for Sam and Max are trying to get together with Nintendo to have the new series on the VC. I don't know if this would be the big news. I doubt we'll hear anything anytime soon.

I really, really don't think you're going to see GB, GBC, or GBA titles on the VC, at least not at this early juncture. The GBA itself is still alive and kicking. The DS plays GBA games. We had the Game Boy Player for the GameCube. So I don't see Nintendo bending over backward to emulate its portables on the Wii. Maybe down the road. But not now.

GameGear is a little more likely, but I don't think retro gamers have exactly been clamoring for GG titles, most of which were scaled down Genesis games. Still, this is something I would like to see someday.

I think it has to be something PC-based. And point-and-click adventures are a no-brainer on the Wii. It's really the most logical conclusion.

What if its a series of remastered classics? That would be nice. Link to the Past with the Four Swords engine...they really should have two series' of VC games...one with just untouched classics, the other using more recent engines for classics.

I know this has already been ruled out, but I would kill for Lunar 1 and 2 on Sega CD.

Please, make it happen, Nintendo.

Um, what about Oregon Trail? Seriously, that would be bad ass. I don't even know who owns the rights to the game, but it just popped into my head.

Bonus points if we can hunt with our Miis.

Give me snatcher on sega cd!

Really , though who knows what types of games nintendo will bring out over the lifetime of this system.(it has not even been out a month yet)

I have a feeling handheld emulation will wait till the DS2 or the next Gameboy hits and has its own Virtual Console system.
Now, if Nintendo sealed a deal with a company like Sierra to get all of their old point-n-click games updated and put on the VC with Wii-mote controls, that'd be worth hooting about.
That is a terrific idea, though they'd have to come up with a workaround for the text input on the earlier ones. It'd be good stuff, though.

Well whoever remade KQ1/2 just gave them icon parsers, much like the last few generations of point-and-click games. (I always got a kick out of asking Roger Wilco to lick random things. Buildings apparently tasted like wildberry!)

I'm not down for the speculation of this sort of thing, though. 'Cuz inevitably I'll lie in bed, my eyes wide and hopeful, thinking about playing Day of the Tentacle on the Wii and reliving the madness of Dr. Fred.

And then it won't happen. I'm going to get some shit like Kirby, but you can change his color.

Yay.
Reggie has been quoted that he wants to get Goldeneye on the VC, my guess is that he made it happen.
And my guess is that you aren't fully aware of all of the rights hurdles that that actually entails.

Oh I've heard of them. Its just a guessing game at this moment. I'm willing to think that it could be Goldeneye. If anyone can go through those hurdles, I'm sure Regie could.

I was thinking about it, and I want to see the old Quarterback Club games from N64. Probably a rights disaster to get em though.

You're kidding, right? Those were the worst football games I've ever played. The wide receivers needed walkers to get down the sidelines.

No, it can't be Mother. I just went through al the work of grabbig th Famicom version so I don't feel guilty about getting the ROM and have it transferred onto a cart. Too much blood has gone into that project. Fire Emblems, come on.

I might be the only one but im hoping for little league baseball.(not as the surprise but sometime) Man I loved that game when i was a kid.

I did too. It's one of the only NES games I still have.

Me thinks it will be before Christmas since there is supposed to be some big announcement by Nintendo before then. Also, I don't think this announcement will be the Opera browser launch in the US concurrent with the launch in Europe on Dec. 23rd.

Okay so it wa not on a console and is not coming over from Japan. Actually what I was thinking about was a title that was originally slated for the Nintendo 64, then the Gamecube and Xbox.... The title is Blizzard's Starcraft: Ghost

GI just did an article on earthbound...so it could be a hint that it will come..if it does..im gonna purchase it with Ice Hockey because i love ice hockey!
Joystiq commented on a possible subscription service (monthly fee), but it seemed mostly like speculation.
This would be great.

Like GameTap ... but on the Wii. That would be a GameTap killer.
The Wii can read C64 floppies. Yes.

10 minutes to load Ghostbusters? I cannot wait!
Is there any way to get that game? I loved playing it at my friends house back in the day. I miss it.
Is there any way to get that game? I loved playing it at my friends house back in the day. I miss it.
If I'm not mistaken, the NES Ghostbusters is pretty similar. But it doesn't have the grinding of the C64 disk drive, which ruins the experience.

Do C64 games fall into the realm of abandonware yet? I suppose not the Epyx ones that are supposedly coming to the Virtual Console.
