This has to be wrong. And I could probably prove it, but it would require me digging out magazines, and frankly I don't have the time.
Just sayin'.
Hey, I could be wrong. It's been years. If I remember correctly, the mag was aiming more to promote N64 or something. Now that I think about it, there may have been a CT cover on NP. Looking at gamerankings.com, Nintendo Power gave the original CT a 4.08/5 or 81.6% (that's kind of hard to believe, and I think the rating system was different than a simple 5 point scale back then).
Funny side note, I'm watching Adult Swim right now, and they have a guy complete with mullet, denim vest, and drinking a beer talking to a red beast with nipple clamps wearing a third party silver N64 controller as a belt buckle
Nintendo doesn't control the content in Nintendo Power.
Dude... come on. They may not have an iron fist over the editors at the mag, but NP is a marketing vehicle for Nintendo. I don't know if they still do this, but Nintendo even had a game tips "hotline" they used to push in NP to have players call a 900# for how to get past difficult parts of a given Nintendo game. I wonder how many phone calls they got for Battletoads and Ninja Gaiden I's last stage...
