Howdy,
I have had a PSP since launch and recently as I was updating my Firmware I pulled the system off of the charger to bring into another room. As I did the system turned off... Great... Upon trying to re-boot it I found that the system's power light would turn on for approx. 45 seconds, no screen light and no sound. I called tech support and their answer to me was that the internal software for the system itself has been hard-deleted. They now want to charge me 90 bucks to get it fixed... I understand I am not under warranty anymore seeing as I bought the system at launch but how is it even feasible that they can charge me for a software problem, it's nothing I could have even done unless trying to crack the body open and mod it...
After talking with the Supervisors in the department and rudely being treated with remarks like, "it's like a car warranty..." and after asking to be transferred to their superior "why, so he can tell you what I already told you?" I will not be purchasing anything by Sony ever again.
Has anyone else been rudely treated by this company, who I am sure we have all been loyal to for some time now?

Not to sound mean, but their answer seems pretty standard.

You are out of warranty and unplugged the system while doing a Firmware update. One thing you should never do is unplug a system while doing a firmware update, instantly ruins your system if you loose power.

I don't think they are being rude at all, but rather just following policy.

Your best bet is to probably just wait for a sale and buy a new one with a warranty.

Agreed. You messed up, no need to shift the blame. Sounds like you bricked your PSP. Your best bet would be to check out the homebrew scene and see if you can unbrick your PSP...

If you end up buying a new one, Dell has %20 coupons on their consoles. Find 'em on google, expires 3/26. $40 off, m-hm.

Yea..bricking a system by your own carelessness YEARS after any warranty, and it's Sony's problem? Not trying to sound like a dick..just seems like you want them to fix something they are not by any means required to..it's no RROD.

I haven't owned a PSP for years now but if I remember correctly it warns you about having your system plugged in while firmware update when you run the update doesn't it? Something along the lines of having your system plugged in or some sort of warning saying that its recommended to have it plugged it.

I used to work for them. LOL. And that sounds just like what the supervisors over there would say. As a matter a fact most of those supervisors have Xbox 360's and I still have most their gamertags. And if you don't want to pay $90+tax, go get yourself a pandora's battery and problem will be solved. I'm sure you can get it fixed for $10 from someone on craigslist.

Also installing custom firmware has a very low chance of bricking. But When I worked there, most the problems were that they had cracked screens, or the games would stop reading. People would also call in saying they can't play the new game they bought and we would ask them to check their firmware to see if it was hacked.

I agree that the Customer Service is a JOKE. Most the people have no experience with Sony products and are reading from a script. The supervisors for the most part do know what they are taking about and you'll occasionally run into a rep that know what they are talking about. Half the people are Nerds on a power trip.

I update my firmware just last week- not only does it warn you not to power down or unplug if it's plugged in, it wouldn't let me even start the update becuase my battery was low- I had to plug it in for a couple minutes before I could do it. It's pretty well noted.
