Sony Playstation Home - Gen. Discussion & Info - Open Beta Available Now

I got a code from JEKKI! Woot.

I'm trying to connect and I'm getting an error though... hmm.
What is this Namco Museum Beta thing all about, dallow?

Hmm, home was working fine a second ago.

The Namco thing is a seperate app for Japan.
I got a code for it from my JPN account.

Seems like you play Pac-Man, Xevious, Galaga, and Dig-Dug to unlock clothes and arcade cabinets for you Home.

Oh the NAMCO thing sounds pretty cool. Though i heard in the US arcade you get some stuff for playin' those games.. Like in Echochrome you get a tshirt or something.

This reminds me of my old days of playing FFXI. Just hanging out and doing nothing. Right now me and like a bunch of people are doing the running man in the mall on the stairs. Crazy.

Hey dallow, were you able to get the Namco stuff into the US beta, or are you in the Japanese beta as well? I have no idea how cross-compatible the save data is.

I finally got to play around a little with it this morning. My first impressions are not that great. I didn't mess around with the character options too much but was incredibly disappointed that there were pretty much NO decent options when it came to facial hair. Then after running around a few minutes I thought "Hey it might be nice to listen to some music here." Then I discovered that XMB music playback is not available. That seems pretty stupid, and hopefully they include that soon. The setup in the theater is also pretty lame. In order to "fullscreen" (but not quite) the video you have to basically stand up at the front of the theater, which mean that people sitting get to look at you standing up there. Shouldn't sitting in a seat be the command to fullscreen?

I was also highly amused by the fact that I saw maybe 3 female avatars and of course they were being hit on. It is great how predictable the internet is.

I had decent experiences and some funny conversations. There was a real girl there but no one hitting her up since she had an ugly female character, but at least she used a mic.
Made two new PSN friends.

There's lots of people in there which is nice to see.
And in Japan, Home is very different. Pretty cool to hear all the Japanese conversations going on around me.

Wow the japanese Home beta is so much better than the U.S one,
How do you get the namco arcade cabinets in your apartment. I have the Japan Home beta but I can't read Japanese, I've struggled to get into it, but I can't play it. i need help. I click on a pac man arcade cabinet and I need to know how to play/ put in my apartment..

Well I played some bowling and chess today. Had that weird mall dance party with Rolento and hung out at somebody's house. I know it's a beta, but they need to add some extra little things and it could be worlds better. Have Home have all the XMB options and aybe give you the option of automatically logging into home or just the standard XMB. I probably wouldn't ever use Home if it's a seperate app.

I am so bummed I am not in on this beta... I signed up like over a year ago! and downloaded the theme when it was released what else did I have to do?

Does anyone else have an extra key? :( I hate to beg...

I would have liked to be part of this beta, but really, I have no interest in "Playing Home". I just want to use it for the networking (Such as inviting friends over and launching a game/chatting from there) and have a place to look at trophies and such. I don't want to play pool on that shit, that's why you go to the pool hall.

ok so I played my US home beta on my Japanese and Euro accounts (yes you can play different regions with the same Home)...

I've concluded the following:

- Best fleshed out version is definitely the Euro Home version (multiple theaters, more things to do, etc.) ... heck I watched the new watchmen trailer in Home... not bad.

- Again, the layout in Euro version is the best... The US theater has only one film and people run around, but in euro you get private room with perfect view.

- Japanese has the most interesting things to see... the home square is void but has a great design, and there's some interesting places to go to that look cooler.

- So best is Euro but Japanese and US are dead even.
the new wave is from people who have been in playstation underground, so it had nothing to do with the theme.
I have been a part of the playstation underground since shortly after the ps2 launched so yea...

ditto, so yea...

that explains a little more I guess Rolento. I have been a PS underground member since 1998 if I remember correctly with ps1. I did install the theme also. I hope everyone gets in soon because honestly this really makes me believe that if it was all possible ps3 would have been soo much better if they had the time to develop more before they put it out.

did you link your PSN to your underground account? if not then you didn't qualify :(
I heard the Home beta is sharable.
Yes it is but I was reading the ToS and it says something about not sharing.I think, not sure....

One thing I noticed last that I was not too crazy about is how you "go to" friends and how they "go to" you. I was in the bowling alley last night and Super_King joined me, it notified me that he had done so - I turned around and had to look for him for a second before I found him. Not a big deal, but later on in the night I wanted to join somebody else on my friend list - so I joined them. Problem was that he was in the central plaza and it dumped me off in a spot where there was NOBODY (this was really late at night). I had no idea where he was and could not find him. So I guess if you are in a small location its ok, but if you are in a large location then its worthless.
Rig, I dare you to take a female avatar. I only saw one other one today. Then we can play chess (in the mall) and look awesome.
Friday night I let my girlfriend make a female avatar and then I jumped into home for a few minutes using her. People weren't lewd or anything, but I got a ton of friend requests. Home is kind of what I expect at this point. Nothing horrible, but nothing to lose your mind over.

PlayStation@Home went to version 1.0 recently and expanded its pool of beta testers. I'm not sure Sony Computer Entertainment had this sort of thing in mind when it did, though. Given the options of going bowling, or playing arcade games, or buying virtual stuff and decorating an apartment well cooler than any you'll ever live in, roughly 30 people all somewhat spontaneously lined up to to form the (virtual) world's longest chain of avatars doing the running man dance. Writes reader "Kurt Cobain":
It lasted for about an hour or so, so power to the people who took part spontaneously, mostly not knowing one another. It started from the clubhouse, just being silly. Then onto the bowling alley, then on the mall. When suggested to take it outside, thats what we did.
The total nonsequitur detail in all this? Apparently it was started by PS Home users from Brunei. Seriously, though, just 30? You can bet once word spreads someone will try to beat it with a world's longest mashed-potato dance chain. (press R1, then you get a menu of dances/other body movements you can make. My favorite is the six-guns.)

Haha, hilarious! ^^

That's weird, for me it was almost instantaneous. The screen went blurry as I warped to you, then suddenly you were right in front of me. I was already in the bowling alley, maybe that had something to do with it.

Oh, and if anyone wants to try game launching Warhawk sometime, let me know or send me a friend request.

I'd like to see some games that you can play w/ your avatar, like boxing, soccer, football, hackey sack (or whatever they call that game that you kick around w/ your feet),

Also a PSU member though I can't seem to merge my account as I don't remember the password and when I request it be sent to my email, it never shows up (tried last week and today again). I feel left out on this :(

I played around in Home a little bit today... I like it.

The thing with Home is that I find if you don't take it very seriously, you'll have fun. That can be good and bad, I suppose. As those of us who don't take it very seriously, will most likely ruin for those who do. I personally had a blast just running around doing random crap, like deciding to follow some random player for no apparent reason, and when he would face me to start doing a dance.

Yeah.

just do a search for clubs and look for "CAG" ... it was the first thing I did when getting on.

I'm with yukine, plus the fact that the spaces have yet to be filled with products and advertisements means we are only playing with the bare bones. after going into the euro Home, I can say I am very impressed with what Home will do once launched.

There is a CAG club, I sent a request to join - I found it by searching for CAG -- (edit) 'doh beaten to the punch lol

And how do you get the bubble machines? Is there a way you gan move them or something? How do they keep popping up?
