Sony use Nazi imaginery to promote the PS3

So what? There are plenty of movies, television shows, books, and music about Nazis so why not games. Unless you consider games to be somewhat lesser medium.

Weird. Interesting, but weird.

Anyone got opinions on what the message of the Rommel one is? Something like gamers love WW2 in their games so much they'll give blood to it's historical figures to keep the games coming? Best thing I can think of right now...

Uh, yeah, but this isn't a game, a la Wolfenstein. This is an advertisement.

Anyway, Sony's had some really bizarre and controversial ad campaigns in the past few years; this is simply the latest one. Stay classy, Sony :p

Quoted for Absolute Truth.

Controversy is a great viral tool, but is it really necessary for selling games? I'm highly suspect.

I guess they're trying to say that the individuals in the ads are giving new life to the famous historical figures (Rommel for WWII games and Joan of Arc for... I dunno, RPGs?).

This seems like a pretty stupid idea though... and they just look weird. But then again, these are Chilean ads... and I think Chile stayed neutral (how convenient) during the war until the end so they probably don't understand the consequences.

I almost find the other ad with Joan of Arc's bare, heartless chest ripped open more disturbing.

I would say probably NSFW:

Are you fucking kidding me?

All I can think of is how retarded. They should try this one on as an ad, "Sony, we'd shoot ourselves in the foot with a bazooka if we could". Actually, that might make for a better ad really.
That's pretty weird.

Anyone offended needs to get over themselves.
CAG's resident Sony apologist :roll::applause:

Uh huh.

I'm not saying the ads arent stupid, because they are. Even just as pictures or "art" they are.

It's just annoying when people get offended over the stupidest things.

Yea, like previously said Sony didn't approve of these.

And... I don't get this whole thing. Why is there some company making mock PS3 ads? And what the hell do they mean?

Yeah...hmm...just making ads for fun eh....

I don't know why they couldn't enter real ads instead of unapproved mockups. What I find most disturbing is that clearly a decent amount of time and money went into making what turned out to be fake ads.

And even with a contract, a client will often approve or not approve of ads which are created for their company/product/promotion/et cetera.

At least it wasn't the weird as hell crying babydoll ad that Sony put out early in the PS3's life.

That was supposed to be 'artsy', but it came across as 'wtf'.

It seems to me that Sony's ads that enter the WTF range do so just for that purpose. For example I doubt that many people who saw the baby crying backwards ad will forget it. And that is the point, people will not forget something that seems so out of place when compared to regular ads. And with them being this strange they will also get a secondary effect due to word of mouth.

Regardless of what some people may think, the strange ads do what they are supposed to do and they do it quite well.

Hmm...at not selling consoles?

Actually, I just thought it was weird. It didn't make me want to run out and plunk down $600 on a console at that point. It just had me going WTF.

If anything, I've liked the current $299 ads with the $299 all over the place. Although, they should've had the 'internet guy' voice done a bit more nasally/whiny. That would've added more laughs to it.

Sony's plan seems to be to spend a bare minimum cash on making an offensive ad and then allowing the media to advertise for them. "Any press is good press" after all.

You know, if they wouldn't be sued into bankruptcy by MS and Nintendo, they could try an ad showing an animated PS3 shooting up a Wii and 360 and the 360 could 'bleed out' excessively, as sort of a jab at the RROD.

But then Sony would be SOL and be sued into oblivion.

Well i think they are using NAZI's reputation, just to introduce their, is it that good? using the NAZI?
