Details are scarce at this time but the script was penned by Matt and Trey themselves.

From PS3Trophies.org...

South Park: The Game, which is an RPG and whose script has been penned by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone themselves, is described as an "ambitious project" and a "full-scale RPG," and will be hitting the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012.

According to the short blurb on the game, you'll play as the new kid in town who will have to make friends and defend the small mountain town from a wide range of threats - presumably one of those is Cartman!

Satan? Manbearpig? Crab people? Dragons? This has all the makings of an epic game. I love the show and can't wait for more details!

My only sketicism comes from the fact that this is being made by Obsidian...didn't they make that piece of garbage Alpha Protocol?

Weird. I remember having a lot of fun with the FPS game 15 years ago even though it sucked. Probably wouldn't pay more than $20 for this, though.

Given the setting and characters of South Park, this would be a good starting point to making a game in the same style as Earthbound.

Even though it's South Park, I doubt it could be as quirky though. That game was a trip.
wrencrest, I know you probably get asked this a lot, but where do I find the full-size version of your avatar?
This, show has sucked for the past few years. Still hoping this will be good though.

I have been asked a few times, yes, but not that much. I see other hot chicks as avatars that make me want to ask them the same question. I probably just googled Emmanuelle chriqui. See link below and as of now my avatar pic is on page 8.

And what is fap fap? EDIT: nevermind, thought about and now I see what you did there. :)

Obsidian...nice. Of their games that I have played, I have enjoyed them all (Though I did refuse to buy Dungeon Siege 3 after hearing about it).

While I agree with your opinion about the South Park TV show, I would prefer a proper South Park RPG made in present times.

I wonder how many skill points it takes to level up Eric Cartman in "fat" to where he can be used in a Katamari Damacy-type minigame.

Oh no. . .I missed that bit. Well, my interest just hit rock bottom. Tired of them releasing buggy games as finished.

This. 1000x this. I couldn't even tell you the last time I tried to purposely watch an episode of SP.

I'm actually this way about Simpsons and Family Guy, but not South Park.

Sacrilige! Family Guy is awesome to this day...even if Seth Macfarlane stated he wanted to end the show a long time ago...but idiots like me wont let him and he makes too much money, why kill the cash cow SETH!

:bouncy:

This last season was pretty good IMHO.

I dont remember if it was this last season or some season before, but I thought the crack baby/NCAA episode was funny. And after watching them put together an episode from scratch in 6 days (TV Special), I now know why the show can be so funny sometimes, but suck a lot.

I will never understand the hate for Alpha Protocol. Never experienced a bug or a glitch in my 70 or so hours of playing it, the constant whining regarding glitches perplexes me as well.

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/03/south-park-rpg-is-a-feel-good-game-about-fitting-in-and-more-de/

Creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker revealed the first details of the South Park RPG in Game Informer this week, and the project sounds so awesome that it isn't even funny. To break it down, players of South Park: The Game will be the new kid in town, and the main struggle will be to fit in and be accepted (See? South Park really is a public-programming after-school show, mom). Characters will be completely customizable and Cartman will help players choose their class -- wizard, paladin, adventurer, rogue or another, unannounced class made up by Cartman.

The story will begin with players joining a live-action RPG with neighborhood kids, which will then turn into a real adventure. The combat system will mirror Paper Mario, weapon augmentation will draw from Final Fantasy's Materia, and the levels are all illustrated and animated by hand, in a completely 2D format, devoid of any real-life hamsters. Parker and Stone say there will be a summoning system, but that they can't talk about it yet.

And, most shocking of all, Parker and Stone say the game will be funny. NeoGAF has a nice summary of the article right here

If it's anything like Castle Crashers I'd definitely be I4O.

Fap fap fap.

I haven't been a huge south park fan since season 3, but this looks like a load of fun, and I'll take any chance I can to play a turn based RPG in this drought.

Well, looks like I'm rolling a Jew.

they just said the combat is like paper mario. no turn based.

Unless they're referring to Super Paper Mario, they are referring to a turn based game. Also the description of the combat (timed attacks) kind of implies it'll be like Paper mario thousand year door.

They said Super Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi.

Honestly, it looks pretty good. Like, you wouldn't be able to tell if it was from the show or not based on the screenshots.
