[Spain too!] Gay marriage almost legal in Canada

No, the real question is, how long will it take for the entire society of Canada to collapse. Because that's what gay marriage does, you know. A few weeks after this passes fully I expect people to be marrying multiple spouses of both sexes, possibly animals, children, inanimate objects...

You make a good point actually. If anything, we can watch what happens over a few years and use that to justify future decisions here in America. This way, when people say things like that, we can use Canada as a go-to example.

Living in Mass I am happy to report that the state hasn't fallen apart, and I think Denmark is still around and it's been legal there for 16 years. It is pretty much legal in all of Europe too, they just call it something different but it's the same as gay marriage.

Ontario legalized gay marriage over 2 years ago, and they're sucking up the wealth of the whole country.

The liberal party has to tiptoe around everything, they barely have enough votes to stay in power (they came within one vote in parliament from their government collapsing). Though this one way easy to pass though, as the NDP, and bloque quebecois (who helped the conservatives almost bring the government down) both backed the liberal party on this, leaving the conservative no chance of stopping it.

Considering the certainty of the law coming into effect, Alberta, the most conservative province, is considering methods of fighting it. Their proposed solution? Not marry anyone http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/06/29/newsamesex050629.html.

I just wonder why all the gays that want to marry don't just move to Canada now. Surely none of them voted for Bush, feel oppressed, think America is going in the wrong direction YADDA YADDA YADDA. Losers like this left the country during Vietnam. Why not go now to be embraced by a nation of leftist losers?

We certainly don't need them.

Draft dodgers left cause their lives were at risk, the rest tried to change the u.s.

33 Liberals did vote against it though, so it was anything but a straightforward vote. I'm sure this won't change much in our extremely tolerant society, as different people from all races have always been accepted in Canada. /end pride

Leftist losers? I guess acceptance = leftism now.

Bigamy is still illegal though, not to worry.

Oh yeah, maybe everyone who doesn't agree with you should move out, huh PAD?

I, for one, wouldn't want to lose the gay population out of economic interests alone. Think what would happen to the American fashion, hair styling and interior decorating industries! :D

Seriously though, PAD's latest post has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read on this board.

I have a question. There quite a few transexuals/shemales etc in the world. Even if they are born male many take hormone therapy to have female characteristics and even gender re-assignment. In that case would the US or Canada see unions with those people as homosexual, heterosexual, or something else? And what about people with characteristics of both genders? I know there are certain rules stating that female athletes have to be born female to compete in certain things but I have never heard if that applies to marriage licenses as well.

Whatever you legally are considered, that's what the relationship would legally be considered. If you were born a male and legally got it changed to female, then married another woman, it would be a homosexual relationship.

Why dont all thy blacks just keep thy mouth should and leave the country too?! We sure don't need those negros here! - Said in southern assent.
