Spikeout Battle Street to be rare?

Gasmepsot and Best Buy don't have it listed. I pre-ordered mune to be on the safe side.
Article said that you can only get it from EB, no other stores.

I'm gonna get my bro to preorder it from me. There's an EB next to his school.
Right, so it seems that the article is true so people need to get their asses moving if they want the game.

For those wondering about if the small print is real, keep in mind some games like Vitrual Cop Rebirth and Altered Beast did not even get a US release. This suggests that they could depend on just the Japanese and PAL release. As for the effort for putting this game on live, MS is the one that running the sever so it is very little trouble for sega to make it.

If worst comes to worst you can always sell off your copy to a friend, or return it to EB if you doubt the rarity or they produce more copies. I for one won't take the chances, and I ordered a second copy in hopes I can turn a profit from all this debt CAG has caused me over the last half year ;)

I ordered mine along with a used copy of Echo Night Beyond for $14.90. Woo ha.

And the downward spriral of spending continues onward :)

I will definitely pre-order this game. If it gets bad reviews or sucks all together I don't have to get it........but I most likely will!!
Thanks Mack!!
I think this could end up being the next Rez... either way, from the videos it looks like it could be pretty good.
Either that, or the next Sneakers (Available only at Toys R Us!!!)

So if there is so few copies, what happens if one store recieves more than two pre-orders?

It seems unusual for a company (even Sega) to say that they are only going to release so few copies, not basing it on pre-order data. Its not like this is a title that will have little appeal for the xbox market (It is a fighter, not to mention Live title).

I'm pre-ordering a copy since I've been looking at this since November but for those looking at it as an investment, I'd hold off till Sega says something.

Haha! ZING!

But seriously, shut up! I just ordered this game and I want it to be good dammit! :p

I pre-ordered two last night at my local store. The clerk made a joke saying that I must really be into volleyball games.

Just pre-ordered one today at EB, can't wait since I've been wanting to play Spikeout since I never got to play the arcade version.

Damn, Sega gives the Xbox some nice exclusives. Between this, Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set Radio Future, it's almost enough to get me to buy an Xbox.

EB's own newsletter today states that Spikeout: Battle Street is gonna be INITIALLY an EB Games exclusive. So much for the rarity. :)

thanks for clearing that up.

I thought this was going to be the case.

Yeah,... I was going to post the newsletter quote too.

No big deal.

We'll be the BETA testers, with the crazy stats when the rest of America gets a copy.
:)

I played a tech demo of this game, and I love Double Dragon and Streets of Rage...but this game has to be one of the worst games SEGA has ever released. Popup like crazy, bland graphics and models and the colors were bleeding all over the place...the game feels like a dreamcast port.

Yeah, I saw videos of this on XPlay (I think). It does look very Dreamcast-ish, but I don't mind. The character movements also looked very stiff, but I'm willing to give it a shot at $30.
Also, since the MSRP is about twice the price that the store pays, Sega would really be getting about $15 a copy. So now the revenue is down to $54,000 ... in the US. Not that the Japanese sales are likely to be higher than 3000 copies either.
Incorrect. Most stores make no more than $5 profit on a new game. The profit from retail drops as the price drops too. For instance, $30 gba games usually cost my work about $26-28. And they end up paying part of that for shipping and promotion in stores, so retail outlets make next to nothing on new game purchases.

As long as Spikeout: Battle Street is halfway decent, I will buy the game. There's just not that many beat'em-up games for the Xbox...

I played the original Spikeout in arcades and it kicked ass so closely to Streets of Rage it wasn't even funny, it was awesome.

FYI, this has been pulled from Sam Goody's website... Further confusion to add to the mess. Also pulled from Gamefly.

 and want happens to my preorder? after i cancelled my preorder at eb

Some impressions I got playing the story mode.

-Inconsistent and long load times. I went to warm up some dinner (2-3 minutes), and when I came back the game was still loading! Going into the next area also triggers loads but they are not as long.

-Horrible voice acting (during the cutscenes only). That and the frightfully neon costumes scream out 'SEGA!'

-Seemingly limited moveset. There is only one attack button (beat attack) in addtion to the special charge move, unless you switch to beginner mode. Otherwise you have to somehow utilize the thumb twisting X+Y and B+Y combinations. Streets of Rage actually seems deeper in terms of moves, but then again I'm still playing round with it

-Intentionally cheap check points. I say cheap because, they make you sit through at least 3 loads and 2 cutscenes without hitting a checkpoint on the first level. That means if you die, you start from the beginning. They must've followed the DMC3/ Ninja Gaiden school of level design.

-Overall, I think it is a fun game, but not quite worth the 30 bucks I paid for it. YMMV, especially if you plan to play with friends or on XBL. The split screen is kind of blurry with 2+ people playing, but I can see how it would be fun. I couldn't find any people playing online as of yet to test out the XBL functionality.

I will probably get some friends over my house this weekend to get some co-op going. I can make a better judgment about the game then.

I plan to pick this up tomorrow at EB. I've been looking forward to this for quite a while, as I'd always wanted to play a Spikeout game, but never could.

the story is lame...but thats beat-em-up games for you

its extremely hard (i died on act4 of the first level..haha)...and its so old school...you have to go back to the beginning of the level ala streets of rage

the graphics are late dreamcast-ish....same level as crazy taxi or shenmue 2...nothing spectacular, but passable

the load times arent that bad...maybe im just patient, or my xbox rules...but my load times were maybe 30-60 seconds...and thats a maybe (i didnt time it, but it seemed fast)

anywho...any beat-em-up fan will love this game and the old school feeling it brings...plus with XBL, i will be playing this for a while...gotta get all the unlockables!!

I traded this game in not even a day after I bought it. Geez multi-player is horrible. I can understand 4 player split screen for Halo, but for a fighting game? We could barely see what was going on, and the enemies were almost indistinguishable from your teammates. I mean, the TV wasn't huge - 30", but the game just devolved into a button mashing mess. BTW, Gamestop is not accepting this game for trade-in because of some licensing deal, so I had to go to GameCrazy.

what happened with this game? released yet? eb exclusive for sure? its not on ebs site any more

im on the phone with sam goody right now and they told me that it wasn't given a definite street date, which she told me means that the manufacturer has no plans of sending them any copies yet....but if they do, ill get it
