Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is freakin' sweet

Well, even though it's not in the awesome PC box, I went ahead and picked it up tonight.. took back Feel the Magic and Warioware.. wasn't feelin' the magic in either of 'em.. they had the LE there (since Rhino doesn't usually do preorders) and it cost me $7 out of pocket.. it better be worth it, damn it! :p

How's the Mega64 video? I love those guys stuff and would love to pick up the CE just to see it but all the stores around me are currently sold out.

It's a collection of four shorts. They vary from OK to really damn funny. The knife one is hysterical.

Was anyone able to even save Morgenholt in the Lighthouse mission? It's a mission objective, just wondering it you're ever able to complete it.
I'm still pissed they didn't shrink wrap the game at all. Halo 2 LE was shrink wrapped outside the plastic sleeve, and it kept it nice and scratch free. CT wasn't shrink wrapped at all (just had those adhesive plastic tabs you see on PC game boxes) and the plastic sleeve is all $$$$ing scratched up. $$$$ing Ubisoft assholes.
That's disappointing, but as long as the actual metal game case isn't scratched...;)

Not that I know of. I tried multiple ways.. got a headshot on the guy torturing him, shot out the light to distract, everything.. I don't think it's possible.

Something that I found really, really, really lame, though, was the "cut through fabric".. the idea itself is great - however, Sam sticks the knife in the middle and cuts downward.. when he pulls out the knife, suddenly the fabric's cut from top to bottom.. that was kinda lame..

Maybe it's just me, but I am getting better at Splinter Cell games.. I absolutely sucked in the first two, but i'm pretty good on this one.. so far, anyways..

Heh, I dunno about that. I think there's been a lot of key features added to each installment that have made the game much easier (ie whistling in PT and knife stabbey in CT). But that's just my opinion. So far the single play has been pretty good

I stopped at the first checkpoint in the first level. Still trying to get through SC:pT. On the last level of that, though, but is CT lovely. The thud of enemies crashing to the floor and the rag doll is quite something.

Is the CE really worth it? I picked up the regular one today for $36.99 ($40 after tax) but have a order with the CE version coming from EBgames ($60 after ship/tax). Would you guys just return the CE to the store and use the extra $20 for something else?
So far, just playing the COOP game with my bro and we're having a blast. Cant wait to try out the single player game.

Only thing that is pissing me off right now is that I preordered the CE at Gamestop but the dumbass clerk entered into the computer that I wanted the regular version (even though I told him I wanted the CE). So I had no choice but to get the regular version instead of the CE.
I too ran into the same issue, but once I complained to the Store Manager that I wanted to file a complaint about that employee he said let me make a call and see if one of my employee's would be willing to give up there's. 2 minutes later I got a phone call, and lo and behold that is how I got my Splinter Cell CT:CE!! If you bitch enough they may do that for you as well, seeing as how they only got enough CE's in for the Pre-Orders.

Oh and for those who haven't played this one yet the coop is so awesome, that my brother who isn't much of a Splinter Cell fan even bought it so we could play coop on XBL, and he absolutely loves it, so much fun, and so lifelike. Hell if you talk to loud in the game, they will hear you, how awesome is that!!

Just out of curiosity does anyone know if when they release new downloadable content if they will be releasing more coop maps in the future, that'd be totally badass if they did, and would definitely increase the replay value of this one for me !!!

Oh and for those of you who need to see how cool it is on coop, check out this trailer

Nobody with the CE?

I've got it. Really is up to you. If you liked the Halo 2 CE as far as content, it's pretty much the same. If you're a sucker for nice cases, then this CE is by far a must buy. Really great case. As for bonus content, it's not as much as I expected, then again, I don't really know what to expect.

Some developer's diary videos (4), Mega 64 Trailers (4--the first two I found quite amusing, the other two not so much), two game trailers, art gallery containing 14 images, a G4 making of featurette (really just a history of SC series), a document on basics (which I didn't bother to read...seemed well presented though--12 pages), game trailers from other UbiSoft games (Ghost Recon 2, Brothers In Arms, R6 Lockdown, Cold Fear), some downloadable extra levels for the original Splinter Cell PC, and a few others.

For me though, it was the case. Very nice.

Hmm, I get the impression that Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Limited Collector's Edition is hard to find? Doom 3: Limited Collector's Edition is going to be released tomorrow, but, I only have enough money to buy one game. Which Limited Collector's Edition should I get?...:whistle2:k

I also picked up this game, yet I didn't get it till yesterday because I was out of town on a trip. I already played the OXM demo, so I knew it was gonna be as awesome as it is. The graphics and gameplay are superb and I have yet to find any major flaws. Though, I'm still slightly agitated by the aiming/firing mechanics. I can usually pull of headshots with my pistol from up to 5 or so feet away, but sometimes it fucks up and I don't hit the person right. Even with the rifle and the same distance this happens. Oh well, this game is still awesome overall. And I really liked the cool metal case. Especially the blood trickle down the front. The little blood trickle is raised on the case! OMG--how awesome!

Well thanks, probably not worth the extra $20 to me then... I think the 3 regular editions match better when they are put together in a collection since they all have similar coverarts and design unlike the CE.

This game is no longer in-stock at EBgames so if you haven't gotten it yet, best of luck to you on finding it. Collector's Edition that is.

Put a little more time into the game. The animation of sneaking up on characters is exactly what's been needed. It's nice that they had Fisher hold his animation instead of crouching back down like he did in SCPT. Makes sneaking up that much more precise.

One thing that's a bit odd though is the way alarms are carried out. I don't know if this changes over the rest of his missions, but it seems if one enemy sees you an alarm is automatically triggered. Even if you knock him out before he has time to call for one, it goes off. I'm reminded of a nice touch of MGS where you could shoot out a radio preventing a guard from calling for reinforcements. It just doesn't make much sense. At least have some sort of audio cue like the guard yelling out before triggering an alarm not, "I'm the only one that sees you, you knock me out before I can react, yet an alarm still raises."

The save system is perfect for this game. It removes a lot of the frustration built in with the checkpoint/trial and error gameplay of the past two games.

Oh, and those looking for CEs, check your Targets. They get a few copies there.

Question for those who own the PS2 version. I've heard that it's missing all the new moves(berserk mode for mercs, inverted neckbreak move, etc.), and missing the predator type suit among other things like co-op online play. Is this true? If that's the case, I feel let down, not because the Xbox version has these things, but because Ubisoft keep touting them for the PS2 version(all except co-op play online).

I was in the same position earlier today. I sat looking at the two LE games sitting right next to each other in the case at Target and finally decided that I'd rather get Splinter Cell. It would be hard for Doom 3 to beat how much I'm enjoying Splinter Cell. I came in very skeptical after being a little less than impressed with Pandora Tomorrow even though I really enjoyed the first one, definetly have no skepticism now.

RedvsBlue - You definately made the right choice. Doom 3 is alright, and the ability to play Doom and Doom 2 is great, but Splinter Cell is miles and miles ahead of Doom 3 in the fun factor department.

I rented this game last night, despite having the original sitting on my shelf since I got my Xbox 6 months ago and never playing it once. I was going to jump online, but I had to go through 67 and 3/4 hours of tutorials first. The strange part? The tutorials were *gasp* pretty fun!

I'm not sure if I'm going to mess with the single player since I kind of want to play through all 3 games in order. I wasn't sure if I'd even like the series, but from the small amount I played, I'm digging it.

I may just end up getting both Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory for a total of $50 if I end up really enjoying the game. What I'd like to know, though, is if someone would be willing to show me the ropes online. I'm looking for someone to play co-op with me, as well as a few people to play some unranked versus battles.

I know Ultimate Matt X was playing online last night, so would he or anyone else like to play this with me sometime within the next few days before it goes back?

Just so you know, the stories of the 1st, Pandora Tomorrow, and Chaos Theory don't really link up. They are interchangable stories. And Chaos Theory definately has the best single player mode with its save-anywhere aspect instead of checkpoints.

I don't think anyone (here) plays online, at least in Mercenaries vs. Spies. I haven't since Pandora Tomorrow, it was extremely unbalanced. I'll co-op with you some today or tonight though if you want.

I agree with Zewone. Chaos Theory is pretty radically different from SC and PT. I never got into the story mode in the first and second, but I love the story mode in the 3rd.

PM me what time you'll be playing it, Matt

Lies.

Yeah, we really need to get a group to play on there steadily. I play this game like crazy, but it sucks when you can't get steady competition/teammates. If anyone wants to play just let me know. I can even start a squad if you guys would be into it. I have a handful of pretty cool people that play right now, but need more people to realize this game is the way not Halo 2. :)

Just to update this I'm gonna be playing now for a few hours.

I play it online here and there and LOVE it, but I only played with my RL friend so far, although in the future I plan on playing it more. The live owns.
