Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void

Yeah they seemed to have completely overhauled the friends list. No more dot names, no more adding by name. Don't really understand why they changed it.

Wow.. the game is stupid broken right now.

I tried three times to matchmake, it failed every time. trying to cancel resulted in it STILL trying to match me. I finally got into a game just a second ago, and it went for about two minutes before it froze.

Bah.

Blizzard seems to feel like they have to screw something up in every patch
So many laggers in 4v4.
Don't blame the people.. they changed from TCP to UDP - the lag is a function of bugs in the network protocol they just added in the recent patch.

I work in IT. This sort of shit should be caught in your test environments before sending it to production.

The scale of user hitting test vs prod is way different, though.. and the issues seem to be network/server capacity related.. so even though I'm miffed that its down, they MAY have tested well, and the vast difference in the number of users couldn't have been caught before deployment.

Every patch seems to have these sweeping, bad, UI changes though... and the game is leaving the 1st stage of beta in a couple weeks. I'm a baffled by the choice to release so many UI changes this late in the game.

They seem to be making a lot of large changes very late in the game. Either they'll delay shipping (wouldn't surprise me) or they'll be changing/fixing things well after it's released.

Which is a business model too many game makers are adopting...hopefully they go in the other direction and delay.

Damn, you guys werent joking when you said it is now broke. I can't do really anything without it lagging or freezing.. and is anyone else lacking sounds in the menus?

Yeah my menu sounds are absent as well.

Hopefully they fix all this soon, I want to try playing this game with my new Brood War unit sounds pack. I liked what they did with the music in SC2 but wow have the unit sounds gone downhill.

Well the original SC had some significant balance issues after retail before it was patched into the perfect game we know it as today =D

Yep. I know. It was very rare for me to ever buy a game when it came out. I usually waited til a mod came out that made the game 'worth' the purchase and till others vouched for it to be stable.

Only took me 1 game purchase to follow that model.

Holy crap, they broke so much. I honestly cant finish a single match. Why would they change netcode this close to the release? I never had a single problem with lag, and now it's completely unplayable. What are they smoking over there? It's like we moved from hardened Beta into a stinky Alpha. I hope they can fix all this shit by 7/27.

Prior to this last patch, I felt the game was more or less release ready. If I were leading their deployment efforts.. I would roll back the bad code, and make the net changes for a later patch rather than lose all the testing (proportionally a lot of testing considering the end of the beta in 2 weeks) time. Leaving this 'totally breaks the game in every way' patch in is a really strange choice.. then again, they also chose to deploy on a Friday, which is a huge typical no-no in IT land as well...

Lets just be glad this isn't happening on release day with patch 1.01. Its better they make all the drastic server related changes that effect playability now rather than piss us off after we've bought the game. I do agree though that a Friday deploy for such a huge server side change is a bit strange.

Anybody know of any good Protoss strategies to counter that cheap early aggression Zergling rush? That gets so old.

Off topic: picked up SC1 today. Going to play through it before SC2 comes out in July :D

I like to do a double gate wall with a pylon or cannon in between, just set rally to ramp (if you want them outside your base) until you can research warp. Have some cannon or stalker behind the wall.

have they fixed the network issues at all yet? i haven't tried to play in the last several days because of how bad it was last time. no obvious patch.. but you never know; maybe the problem is just the server code.

Yeah, I actually just played a bit and things definitely seem to be better. One of my matches had random lag but none of fatal lockups I was experiencing. I really wanted to play some this weekend too. I actually placed into Silver this time, which I guess is the new Bronze, but sure beats my original placement of Copper, lol.
Protoss vs. Protoss... thought I was going to faceroll since he attacked me with his probes, then this happened:

Why did you let him get so many void rays?

At that critical mass, it would be damn near impossible to beat that many regardless of what you made.. with the possible exception of other void rays...

Voids are the only unit that can hold its own reasonably well against anything you throw at it.. which is part of why I'm not sure the range debuff was sufficient to balance the unit.

Then again, I haven't been able to play since the patch. I'm going to give it a go tonight.. I'll likely have an opinion after I do.

edit: the more I think about it, the more i figure that pic had to have been intentionally staged or photoshopped. That.. or that tos is really bad and just overmassed for no reason.

If you want to be a real baller, you can go forge first, 2 cannons at your natural choke, then gateway. It should block lings from going through.

Then you can fast expand and do whatever you like.

I've only been playing custom games since the void patch, but as Zerg, a similar mass army of infestors and hydras should do the trick, now that they flat out out-range them.

As terran and protoss though, thats gonna be a thinker.

Edit: Never mind, wiki just told me that even after upgrades, Hydralisk have the same range of 6. Is that correct? Pre-patch i use to use cliffs to my advantage to single out hydralisks 1 by 1, but i was never able to hit them where they couldn't hit me. I assumed their range was the same.

Trust me, it was a random 1v1 in Bronze. Not staged or photoshopped. Now the possibility of hacks or game altering is a different story- I have no idea. But this was definately a 100% legitimate random match. This guy just liked his Voids.

If he was hacking, wouldn't you be able to see it through a replay? Otherwise my comment is along the same line as BC

I might want to play tonight. But if there are lag issues without me, I can only see myself putting them into critical mass levels.

I haven't had many lag issues in the last few days. One game I played a week or so ago had lag like every 5 seconds, it was awful. Probably be on around 9 cst, PM me your Bnet address so I can add you. I don't know why they took away the ability to add people by game name rather than email.

i want to see a replay.
he has an expo up and you have 1500 minerals in the bank so something's strange.

he probably sacrificed his probes to free up food for more voids.

This might sound really stupid, but I'm going to ask anyway.

I launch the thing and it brings up a splash screen with a progress bar filling up slowly. There's a message about the latest patch. Occasionally I get a warning from Windows Firewall about unblocking Blizzard-something, which I do. There is a play button on the right, but it is grayed out.

Does that mean the servers are down, or is my installation somehow not working since I can't click on play? I ask because a while ago there was a way to play single player AI maps, which I did, and now I'm wondering if this is somehow screwing up the official install.

Really excited about the beta extension. For those who want to add me on bnet, add daetis. N00b Protoss player.

I think the play button usually stays grayed out until the patch finishes installing. If it isn't finishing then something may be wrong. The patches are usually posted somewhere as separate downloads too.
