Blizzard’s stealth-action console foray into the world of Starcraft looks like it’s going to be delayed again. After releasing underwhelming screenshot after underwhelming screenshot and having marginally fun builds at E3 2005 and 2004, it looks like Blizzard is going back to the drawing board, shooting for a next gen console release instead. No word on whether developer Swingin’ Ape is still on as the title’s primary developer.
For the Full PR - follow Ghost giving the poor guy a "What have you!"

wtf?

I never can understand how this same company can put out such a quality game like WoW, but can't seem to get a simply 3rd person shooter right.

You do realize how many times and for how long they delay their AAA games (which are really all of them, IMO).

Normally it isn't this long and the end product isn't this bad....

How can you comment on the end product being bad if the product isn't even out? ;)

Unless, you're referring the new "vaporware" status b/c that would indeed be a really crappy end product.

So far there is no end product, so I guess that trend will continue.

I remember when this was cancelled for the GC like 6 months ago.

Well I figure if it's getting delayed again to next-gen you've see the final product in those mediocre videos.

I remember reading about this game in late 2003. I bet I still have the magazines of it, too.

actually, i think the success of wow has a lot to do with it. they have to constantly update that game, new patches, the new expansion, they have 6 million subscribers world wide playing that game. of course other things are going to get pushed into the background.

According to Wiki this game was announced in September of 2002. Assuming they spent at least a year developing the game before it's announcement, and it will come out in 2007 (at the earliest) it will have been in development for 6 years. Is Blizzard hoping this game will make a profit?

Anyone remember Warcraft Adventures. Ya it got cancelled

Also Blizzard bought the company who was making this game for them. Thats not looking to be a wise investment on there part.

I for one hope this comes out. But it probably won't. Blizzard seems to be crazy. They really don't make many games. I mean people are still waiting for the real sequels to Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo. If Microsoft wants to revitalize the PC gaming industry buy Blizzard from... Vivendi is it. I forget. Anyway buy them and force them to actually release games.

SUPRISO OF THE CENTURIO.

I think they sort of gave up after Splinter Cell got so popular. Their plans for getting back into the console game business aren't going so well...I say they should just scrap Ghost and do a new Rock 'n' Roll Racing!! (Or BlackThorne II would be badass, or maybe a new Lost Vikings).

You can't blame Blizzard's constant work on WoW for the delays of Ghost. WoW is developed by Blizzard Entertainment, while Ghost is being developed by their Blizzard Console devision (previously Swingin' Ape studios, creators of Metal Arms). It seems that Swingin' Ape has inherited Blizzard's rediculous slothy-ness. Which is odd, because it seems that they put out Metal Arms in no time flat. Oh, well. I really look foward to them not getting anything done whatsoever on any games. It sounds exciting.

People still care about this game apparently? I'm surprised people haven't turned a blind eye to it yet considering it's ridiculous development time...but I guess we'll just have to wait and see some more.
Team Fortress 2'd
HAAH. That was exactly what I was gonna post. Its a great fallback if Duke Nuke'em forever has already been taken.

Shit... this could end up being like Prey, coming back 8 years later and kicking ass.

I still have the PC Gamer from 1998 where they previewed Prey, and now we flash forward to 2006 and people are hyped.

Maybe they'll actually be able to incorporate some starcraft looking worlds and buildings now.. I think it'd be great to have sections of the game where you command around groups of firebats and marines or seige tanks in huge open environments. I thought that the scope of this game seemed too small for a spinoff of an RTS.. needs to be more huge, epic battles.

anyway I've been looking forward to it since i loved starcraft so much.

Lets not forget, Blizzard isnt making this, they never were going to make this. They were producing this, nothing more.

Think "Overworks" (Shinobi) making games for Sega... they're not Sega.

not exactly. Up until recently Overwork was owned by sega. They are as Sega as AM2 or Sonic Team. They created some of the best Sega games like Skies of Acadia and Sakura Taisen.

Edit: Overwork was known as AM7, until they sega changed names in 2000.

I was looking forward to this when it first had been announced, but now I've pretty much given up hope that it will ever be released.

My sentiments exactly.

I have the box for my Xbox and on the back is a picture of Starcraft:Ghost with a release date slated for Spring 2004. They're already two years late. The Multiplayer looked like it could have been a decent distraction- something otehr than Halo to play on Live for five minutes but I guess now we'll never know.

How come so many of the very few games I'm actually interested in never come out? B.C., DeadRush, Ghost and yet thousands of crap games get pooed out a year? Sad really.

Because the publishers and developers involved have pride in their work and would rather postpone/cancel a project than put out shit.

I would like to see this come out.

I'm bored with WoW... we need another Blizzard product. I would love for it to be Starcraft 2... top down RTS.

They got mad Azeroth bucks comin in every month. They should be able to work on more than one game at a time!

Ah well, they always seem to end up getting it right. How many crappy Blizzard products do you own? Probably none.

Nerd.

Lol, jk - good to know.

I think they see the penetration of the next gen market and they're alreadly working on the next gen version, i hope we hear of it at E3.

I was excited when Swingin' Age got control over this game and I'm still hopeful that they can put together an excellent game. I'm sure it will be an excellent game (if released), but with their focus on multiplayer modes, I couldn't imagine they would make as much now on current-gen as they could if they delayed it until the next-gen installed user base gets to a level where they can make some decent money.

Well its a shame. This game looked quite promising with a unique direction for the Blizzard creative team. But i guess with the insane success and WOW bringing in millions a month they are not reliant on the success of SCG to keep them afloat. Maybe this will re appear on a next gen console...The part that tingles my spider sense is the "MAY not include" I cant imagine them throwing out the years of work that went into this...

Im kind of hoping it gets moved to next gen. I mean look at Animal Forest which came out for N64(japan only) and was cancelled but brought to the gamecube, turned out to be a great hit.

This isnt the same situation by any means, it would be nice to see a similar outcome though.

 Could be worse though; it could be "Daikatana'd"

WoW was announced like 4 years before it came out, and spent about a year in beta. Diablo 2 was pushed back a few times. The last Diablo 2 patch was in testing for well over a year and a half.

Blizzard has never really been one to get shit done fast, but they do tend to get it done right.

god I hope they dont end up botching diablo 3 like they did starcraft ghost... thatd make me never buy a blizzard product ever again... and burn my copies of worhtless blizzard games such as diablo 1, and lost wikings in effigy.
