Group Buys - Updated 05/20

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales
Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Anyone know of any good total HD texture / Graphical enhancement mods for Doom 3? Also need a way to raise that resolution beyond the game's max - is there a GUI program that does it instead of me messing with the .ini files manually?

I remember when DOOM 3 was like the Crysis of graphically intensive games requiring the best of the best for decent FPS. Now I got a system that freakin rapes it back with a constant 62-63FPS roflmao. Gaming systems with dual card setups and quad+ core CPUs are so awesome today. Perhaps I can disable V-sync (or brutally enforce it to disable through GFX card settings) and see how high the FPS really goes. ah still can't seem to get the V-sync to disable and let the fps go past 62-63 (blinks between them constantly. I think it's supposed to be capped at 60, but the cards push it so hard it hits 62-63)
C&C Franchise today probably and possibly Quake Collection
If the quake pack hits and it's $10 or under I will have just bought everything I could want off steam .

20 minutes to go, well ok more like 45 because it's valve. The suspense is killing me, lol. It's like the lottery.

I've not picked a whole lot up so far, just bad company 2. Next lot starts in 15 min so I will be checking out the new deals

Only HL2, Ep 1&2 and Beat Hazard Complete for me so far.
Waiting on Portal 2 to hit $20, already own on xbox
If only you got the PS3 version :p

Well, I had thought I was having a graphics driver issue with Trine, since it would kill my computer after a while. Found out it was really a power supply issue, since I can't turn on my computer at all. Off to Microcenter to get a new one.

That's ok, because this sale hasn't been all that big for me:

Tropico 3: Absolute Power
King Arthur: The Druids
Hoard
Magicka
Toki Tori

C&C should be ok for me. I have most of them already.
Any Paradox game I am going to have a fit ignoring though. I love those quirky little war games...

Sanctum looks to be up for a daily deal today. It's a few minutes before the sale, but it's $3.75 for a single copy and $9.somethingsomething for a 4-pack. Is there a thread up or something for finding groups yet?

19.99$ for Dead Rising 2.
Even funnier are their "sales" for Resident Evil 5. It's almost as bad as the Call of Duty games.

lol, and EA. Both of them seem to be a little less generous than most companies during this sale.
They kind of got me right off the bat with the Sims 3 pack, the rest I've bought seems peanuts in comparison xD
Don't mean to burst your bubble but the $80 Sims pack is the regular price of the combined pack, has been since release if you check steamgamesales.com or steamprices.com. So kind of a lame daily deal if you wanted the whole pack, as it was not discounted any further than the standard price.

Street Fighter 4 and Dead Rising 2 are the exact same price they were at Thankgiving/Christmas (don't remember which).

EA has actually be doing fine in the dailies.

GRRRRRR! Bought Rift over the weekend for 19.99 when it was on sale....9.99 with a free month is a STEAL!

Great game, Im not even that big on MMORPGs but its pretty solid

Yeah Capcom disappoints me, might have gotten dead rising 2 for $15 but no way on $20. Might have to get Sanctum any thoughts on it?

I'd also vote against audiosurf, just didn't really seem that fun to me. But it has a demo so check it out if your on the fence.

I've delved deeper into the whole PhysX thing on certain Nvidia cards that is required to run Batman: AA in it's full glory as it's supposed to be.

I share most of this topic's posters that, if Nvidia wasn's such a crappy and greedy company, any ATI card would be able to show the same effects. What Nvidia did (obviously with the game developers sharing the blame) is break out some nice game elements if the system detects a non-Nvidia (physX-enabled) video card.

Then they advertised their cards as if they're something entirely new and special, and hence ask alot of money for something that's really just a gimmick.

As a CAG, I do not approve of these shady tactics. Shame on you, Nvidia. And also you Rocksteady Studios. I'm glad I didn't buy your game.

That SF4 price is ridiculous since AE just came out. Risen just jumped from 75% off to 66% off making it a lot less worthwhile. Looks like I'm only in for Quake collection today.
Looking to get in on a Sanctum 4 pack, anyone hosting? If not, I will.
Let me know when you buy the pack. I'll join the group if you don't mind.
Yeah Capcom disappoints me, might have gotten dead rising 2 for $15 but no way on $20.
Yeah, I was hoping for something a little better. $20 bucks is what I can get it for on Amazon any day of the week. One of the deals I was waiting on, sadly.

Another day of jack squat for me. Company of Heroes for $6.69? I bought CoH Gold (with the Opposing Fronts expansion) for $5 from D2D two years ago.

OK, this makes no sense: CoH vanilla is listed on the page as $2.49; OF is $4.99; Tales of Valor is $4.99; or buy them all for $12.49. How does that $6.69 on the front page work?

Oh, now it says $2.49. They have no idea what they're doing there, do they?

Thrown off of Steam, not quite. But their PR department does need a firm smack upside the head. SSF4AE finally just came out on PC, so why the hell are they even bothering to waste a slot with vanilla SF4? Anyone who is the least bit into fighters is going to want to jump straight into the latest iteration, not SF4. Hell, especially not for $15. The game isn't even worth that much off of sale at this point in time.

Personally I find that Capcom does some of the best console to PC ports. RE5, SSF4AE, and i'm sure their other GFWL titles all look and run damn fine on PC. They just need to realize that their games aren't magically deserving of some magic BS Capcom tax.

Oh, and in for Tomb Raider Anniversary. (The first Tomb Raider will always have a special place in my heart) Also contemplating Company of Heroes, may grab the core game for $2.50. Not sure i'm up for spending $12.50 on a franchise i've never even touched. The rest though are either grossly overpriced (and by that, i mean Dead Rising 2) or stuff i already own. (Quake pack through id Superpack, and C&C series from last sale on said franchise)

This is what happens when you get a monopoly. Put everyone else out of business and then jack up your own prices. It'll be worse next year.

When it was released I'm pretty sure it was 50% and since then it includes the Generations expansion as well.

Either way I suddenly felt it was worth it ;)

The 'Lameness' of the daily deal was because the Sims pack was on sale since day 1 but some people just didn't realize that when the daily showed up, since yes, that price stayed the same but the individuals were now on sale for that price as well. The Steamgamesales price history doesn't even go back further than the sale.

Worse as in somebody will go out of business or worse as in prices will get jacked up even though nobody has gone out of business?

Are the Guardian of Light challenge packs worthwhile? I'm getting the Raziel and Kain pack for sure, but adding the other DLC doubles the cost of the game, so I'd prefer to know if it's worth it.

Also curious about Cities XL and Sanctum.

And they need to fix Risen's price. It's still $10 on the page.

In for C&C 3 and the Quake Pack. As much as I like C&C I REFUSE to touch C&C 4.

With that I will own every C&C except for Sole Survivor, the DLC to Red Alert III and 4.

First off, there are some dirt cheap games, I really do not think Steam is a company out to rip off PC users. Second, Steam cannot charge whatever they want for a game.. they still need to pay the publishers.
