Group Buys - Updated 05/20

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales
Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Nothing for me today, so here's my final haul...

BFBC2 Complete
Counter Strike Complete + Garry's Mod
Defense Grid Complete
Frozen Synapse
Magicka Complete
Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword
Quake Complete
Stalker CS and CoP
Sanctum
Never Winter Nights 2 Platinum

Total: $72 and some change. Not half bad for so many games!

Aaaaah is pretty fun, though it reeks of indie hipster filth, and every other game the developers make has been lousy or a total ripoff (1..2..3.. Kick It). Try the demo.
Fallout collection worth it for 10 bucks?
I know I've been waiting forever for a sale on it, since it was never a daily deal I'll grab it now
Everyone keeps pointing me towards The Longest Journey, can anyone who has played it recently tell me without nostalgia goggles if it's held up? I'm really interested, but the lack of multiple resolutions and the pretty awful graphics are keeping me away.
I think it's kind of overrated. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but in my opinion the writing is pretty inconsistent, the puzzles are nothing special, but has a great atmosphere and a nice story. I'd personally give it maybe 7/10, so still very much worth the money I'd say.

By the way I love adventure games. I get aroused every time I see the SCUMM interface. For a more recent adventure game, I'd recommend Gemini Rue, which unfortunately I don't think is on Steam.

Damn you steam, passed on two worlds 2 the first time. But they got me :/ also picked up the Shogun 2 DLC. All in all a great thread, not to see if I can't get at least one more ticket to make 24.
Yeah had no intrest in DOW2 at the 14.99 price but i bit on 7.49 figureing it was a price mistake. Makes me feel better about the whole terreia incident
Shucks. It was 7.49 earlier??? Dang it. I was about to buy it for 14.99 but now I feel bad. So I won't buy it no more.

For those who have experience with Spectromancer:

I purchased the bundle. When I start the game, it starts with the "Truth and Beauty" screen (which I understand to be the latest expansion). Under "Singleplayer", I see "League of Heroes" which appears to be the 2nd expansion. How can I play the original game (before expansions)? Does Truth and Beauty just add to the original (so I shouldn't want to play the original)?

Confused - any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

ok now thats it all said and done with i made the following purcahses

Far Cry 2 $5
Prince of Persia (2008) $5
Battlefield Bad Company 2 Pack $10

not a lot but 3 games i have yet to play and always wanted to try.

Any thoughts on the The Maw(with DLC)and Stubbs the Zombie? On the fence about both as a last day sale, especially Stubbs since I know its pretty damn old at this point.
The Heavy has something for the Steam sale crybabies:
I look at it this way, people will always complain about something. Even if everything was 80% off people would still complain that something didn't go on a as daily deal to become 85% off.

So people can keep whining about how they are annoyed over the people that are complaining about prices, but you must remember there are two things that make the internet go round... complainers, whiners about the complainers, and porn (ok so maybe it is three).

Honestly go to a bunch of youtube vidoes with girls in it. People will be saying how they think she is hot or what they would do. People will then complain about those people doing that. And others will whine about those people complaining.

EDIT: And I think i'm done for this sale. There wasn't really anything I wanted that wasn't a daily.

Anyone interested in grabbing portal 2? I bought the two pack and none of my friends wanted to go in with me, but still bought it.

Avoiding any games that were previously daily or ticket items, here's what I'm thinking about. Any recommendations?

Interested:
The Mawesome Pack $11.99 ($2.99)
Zen Bound 2 $4.99 ($1.00)
Mr. Robot $9.99 ($2.49)
Who's that Flying?! $5.99 ($4.01)
Capsized $9.99 ($4.99)
Diamond Dan $9.99 ($4.99)
Turba $9.99 ($4.99)
Mevo and The Grooveriders $9.99 ($4.99)

Recommend:
Penny Arcade Adventures: Precipice of Darkness Combo Pack $11.99 ($1.80)
Chime $4.99 ($1.25) great shape game, top-notch production values
Osmos $9.99 ($2.49) for when you want to relax. a lot.
Painkiller Black $9.99 ($4.99) the only Painkiller you need
Dwarfs!? $9.99 ($4.99) nice collection of games and a very fun TD bonus game
Shatter $9.99 ($2.50)
I've gotta wonder, why are you pimping these "under appreciated" games so hard? Do you get a cut of the sales or some type of referral payment?

On topic, I'm really surprised Oblivion didn't make a reappearance. Oh well, looks like that'll complete my haul. I'll try to get the Portal 2 ticket and then I'll cash out later tonight. Been a pretty good sale this year.
Just trying to get the word out there that they exist.

I'm going to be repeating myself from here on in since there are only two more days left in this sale:

There are a ton of under appreciated games available on Steam that you should look into for dirt cheap. Since some of however are too distracted by the daily deals , I'll help you out a small bit.

Anyone interest in a borderlands goty 4 pack? I don't have enough money to buy a slot so I figure I would buy the pack and find 4 other peoples.

I think that the blowback has more to do with the fact that nearly every single day of every single Steam sale there's some kind of boneheaded mistake whether it's pricing errors or improperly calculating percentages or running out of keys or whatever.

Considering that the entire storefront is a dice-game for the entire first hour after the new daily deals go live is also pathetic at this point when you take into account how much Valve makes with Steam and how many servers they maintain. Those servers also crumble under the weight of the sales.

You have to sit back and wonder about how much other stuff Valve is screwing-up when they so consistently do it during their big sales as to be known for it. It is a huge undertaking and mistakes are bound to happen but for them to happen repeatedly like they have is amateurish and sad.

And I, for one, appreciate it.

Thanks for the information - keep it coming. :)

if someone knows.

how big is borderlands vanilla supposed to be as a download?

im asking because i thought i got borderlands vanilla and when i tried to purchase goty edition, it said i already bought it.

so i went and redownload borderlands and its a 7 gig install. but its taking forever and probably wont be able to access it today to find out if i have all the dlc already.

I really enjoyed the Maw on the 360 but haven't played the DLC. Fairly simple adventure game with a bit of puzzler mixed in. I really wanted to get Stubbs but a lot of people on the Steam forums have had problems running the game. I couldn't even run the demo so I'd suggest to check that out first.

It's 12 years old, so you have to cut it some slack in the graphics department.

It's a great adventure game that IMO shouldn't be missed. And you should get the pack that includes Dreamfall, it's sequel, if you do buy it.

Anyway, I'm debating if I should buy Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. This is the first I've seen it in a Steam sale, and $13 is the cheapest it's been. But the game is 7 years old, and that's an awful lot of money for a game that old...

Can't you just go to the store page for each DLC? It should say "You already own this". If that doesn't work for you then add it to your cart, go to checkout and it will show you what you already own.

Right click on Borderlands in your game list and click "View Downloadable Content". If you have the DLC, it should be listed there.

The single player campaign is the same regardless, Truth and Beauty just adds more mage types to play as.

So today is just a recap of some of the sales from previous days.

Here is what I got over this sale:

BF: BC2 - $5.00
Magicka DLC - $4.34
Beat Hazard - $2.49
Valve Complete 2011 Pack - $49.99
Audiosurf - $1.49
Amnesia - $4.99
Terraria 4-pack - $7.49
-----------------------------------------
Total - $75.79

Good sale. Now to wait for the winter sale!

Vampires is 13 dollars? I remember buying it for a friend a year or so ago on D2D. I'm surprised it isn't cheaper. :/

On another note. How are the Borderlands servers? I don't want to triple dip just to play by myself, it's just not as fun.

Excellent - Thank you!

Sorry if it's been asked before, but does The Maw work with the 360 controller?
I'd definitely recommend The Maw. It's was worth it at full price IMO, so at $2.99 it's a no brainer.
Who was able to earn the most tickets here?

I earned a grand total of 33 over the course of the sale... I know that can't be the highest number though. I didn't buy any games to try and get more, I just played the games I already owned for tickets. Surprisingly I had quite a few of those games :D!

I'm interested to see what you guys were able to accomplish ;)...
Is the Complete DLC for DoW Retribution worth it for 11.99 if i already bought the game for 7.49?
Seconded, with an additional question. Is the Dawn of War II Gold Edition worth $20.09 if you bought DoW2 Retribution for $7.49?

The gold edition has DoW2 vanilla, and DoW2 Chaos Rising. Basically is it worth the extra 20 bucks to have the whole game, or just play Retribution?

Question: Is there a thread to request "Steam Friends"?

I'm nosy and want to know what you are all playing!!

If anyone wants to add me my Steam ID is "Zipomatic"
Sorry if it's been asked before, but does The Maw work with the 360 controller?
Yep, it's supposed to be compatible with the 360 controller.

I got 10! I don't have many of the games that were listed, but the ones I had I got.

I'd recommend to not get any of the DLC for Retribution. Most of the gear for Last Stand is worthless (except space marine) and no one really plays multiplayer.
