Just wanted to post a public shoutout to shirinpitt. My paltry Steam library has prevented me from playing more than once. Thanks pal.

To fuel the hardware talk, I'm looking for a work laptop. $200 or under. Preferably touch screen/tablet hybrid. Want something small (12 to 14 inches) but not too small (Like Bah's mom, 10'' and under is too small for me). I would prefer something relatively speedy. Don't need it to do anything fancy though (like play games or anything like that since it is strictly for work). Also don't need it to have a ton of storage since I probably max out at around 4GBs of work documents at any given time. Also prefer it to be sort of quiet, not run too hot, and have good battery life.

Anyone have any recs or experience with anything like this? Was looking at stuff like potentially a Acer Switch or refurb older Elitebook, Lattitude, Thinkpad type thing.
Not a tablet hybrid, but my brother bought an Ideapad 100s for school. He loves it, light and good battery life. I've tried a couple of older tablet hybrids, windows & android,I thought they sucked. Keyboard is always lacking.

Ok. I need to sell all these cards and I have a win phone (shut up, it was free). So, is still winauth the way?. I'll only use it to sell stuff? I don't want anything else messing with the steam login

I'm running a 970 I got for Witcher 3 and now use for VR, still quite potent.  I'd be willing and able to jump to the 1070 if there was a push for VR games to have more power, but otherwise, crushing it.  Haven't experienced a slow down yet with one of them.  Makes it kinda crappy when other big AAA titles come out at 30FPS or less jank fests.

I've had my eye on something in the 970/390 range for a while now.  I was hoping for a price dip in the older stuff with the new generation coming out, but I think I have a new plan now.

AMD has the 480 and 490 coming out,   They seem to be right in the price vs performance spot I've been looking at.  It sounds like the 480 will match the performance of a 390x for about 200 bucks and the 490 will match current top end cards like the 980 ti for "300-ish".

The info is still a bit fuzzy, but it sounds like I might be buying my first ever AMD video card in the near future.   Sure, those won't be  "top end card" level anymore, but I'm not interested in either 4k gaming or VR, so I'd be set video card wise for a while.    My 2gb 560 TI card has served me well, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth.

I had a 1GB 560 Ti. Loved that card.

But, yeah - my desktop 4GB 960 is certainly holding me down at 1080p at High-to-Ultra in most games at 30FPS+ (depends on the game).

For my gaming laptop, my 4GB 960M is holding me down, also - often 900p/1080p with Medium settings at 30FPS.

Watched a bunch of Stellaris gameplay today and now I needs it.  Not sure if I $40 funbux needs it or $30 totally legit needs it though.

ITS A TRAP...

they just want to spanky spanky you in Rocket League
@AgentGhost

Who cares?

FREE Rocket League! :)

@GeorgeBot83

Thanks again, GeorgeBot83. Much appreciated! I downloaded it and I'm gonna have to check this out sometime soon.

EDIT:

btw, how big is the jump for the new TitanX in real world performance? I thougth the 970 GTX jump was very impressive in term of value and performance ratio from the previous gen of GPU
@AgentGhost

But 1080/1070 has WAY more VRAM (8GB supposedly) over the 4GB 3.5 GB 970! ;)

That's kind of horrible. I guess if MysterD's account did actually get banned, he could always say someone gave him a copy and link back to this thread. Unless sarcasm.

Steam doesn't ban accounts, they just lock you from buying stuff, activating stuff and using trading/inventory. That totally ain't same as ban.

Been playing Overwatch. Dig the combat; really dig the # of different heroes - but it needs more game-modes.

EDIT:

Just saw it on Overwatch's Facebook: Beta's been extended to May 10th.

Tried Rocket League...I'm horrible at it
Yeah, everyone is at the beginning. What you do is get better at it, then find friends that haven't played it before and play with them. You'll get mostly lower tier opponents, and they'll think you're amazing at it when you know you're really not.

The First Order pinball fx 2 table might just be one of my favorites.

if anyone's on the fence, the Force Awakens pack is still on sale.

so, uh, yeah... move along.

Yeah, I'm no good either. It must not have bothered me much though because I've played it for more than 6 hours this weekend.

I also played a few of the games in the current Monthly:

1993 Space Machine: The biggest gripe for me is that it doesn't really go full screen (lots of black areas). The front end is super-simplistic and rather primitive. The enemies are sort of uninspired in the first few levels (only played about 3) and everything seems really tiny. I do like the way that you can customize your ship by buying upgrades, but there doesn't seem to be a way to switch loadouts during the level... so you're stuck with whatever you've got without having seen what you need. It's okay. I can see myself playing it a bit more and then shelving it, though it doesn't even hold up to the better sidescrollers that were available on the SEGA Genesis/'Mega Drive 24 years ago.

Galak-Z: I've only played this a bit, but I really appreciate the amount of work they put into the artwork and cutscenes. It's not cinema-quality or anything, but there's an amount of polish there that lets you know you aren't playing a Flash game someone dug off of a website where bad games go to die. The controls are decent and I think I'm going to like it.

Jumpjet Rex: the controls are good, which is important given that this is a platformer/racer of sorts. Collect the required amount of stuff and progress, The pixel graphics are decent, but not amazing. You can choose your own pathway to an extent (like Angry Birds), and the variety of levels is nice. It almost has an action puzzle vibe to it. I'll play this one some more; it's pretty decent.

So Overwatch is fun, but wears out its welcome fast.  Played with a group of 6 a couple different times today and after about an hour would be tired of it each time.  Probably gets better once you master a bunch of classes and are able to adapt and have more of a strategy but it just seems like a game I'd play for a bit then then set aside and forget about.

It falls into the wait for the joki-bot to find a good glitch (that I'll miss out on) category.

I had the same impression, but thats also how I feel about moba-ish games in general. Fun the first time, second time through I get tired of it after an hour. Then after a few more play throughs I feel like Ive seen it all and dont really care to go back since it feels so shallow

I haven't even bothered. I'm not quite sure why Blizzard even chose to make this game, but I'm sure they'll end up making a crapton of money on it. It just doesn't look remotely interesting. On the rare occasions I have the urge to play TF2, I can . . . play TF2. Is there an in-game store yet? That's how Valve makes its wheelbarrows full of cash on its shooters-not-called-Half-Life and one of the ways Blizzard has successfully (WoW) or semi-successfully (Diablo) enhanced its revenue stream, so I figure one will turn up sooner or later.

i've been playing the Overwatch the past couple of days. for me it's really fun... when i get to play my main character. i was a pretty good medic in my tf2 days, so i thought Mercy would be my jam. and she was. for some reason i just love the support role. anyways the suck comes when someone else picks her, and for the sake of redundancy i choose another player. but since i'm not really good with anyone else that's when the fun ends. so yeah, Blizzard apologist here...

Probably b/c they (Blizzard) felt Valve stole DOTA from them. It's payback time.

EDIT:

As one would expect w/ Blizzard making ANY sort of game, it's going to look good + run very well. At Ultra at 1080p, this thing doesn't even know how to go under 60FPS even with V-Sync On. The art design looks so cool b/c of its stylish-cartoony look and all. I'm gonna have to see if Epic settings [which is above Ultra] can budge this 60FPS stability on my rig (i7 950; 16 GB RAM; 4GB 960).

I just think the game is lacking modes. I've seen Payload-vehicle escorting and doing Rounds of Point-Controlling - but meh, is that all this game has for modes?

Seriously...I could also go for the addition of some old-school modes like FFA (Free For All) and/or a Team Deathmatch; and any other new type of game-modes they want to add too.

EDIT 2:

I seem to be gravitating most to using The Tracer + Pharah.

Yeah, I'm horrible at Rocket League but it's addictively fun. Played for maybe 2 hours yesterday. Of the games in the new monthly I've played Crawl and Jump Jet Rex...Crawl is an interesting concept but I couldn't get into it...the controls feel a bit janky to me. Jump Jet Rex is pretty good, definitely worth playing.

Overwatch is a MOBA? Gross.
No? Like, not at all? I guess any game with "hero" characters is going to come across as one, but no, it's straight-up TF2 style multiplayer. It's not even a hybrid like Monday Night Combat or Battleborn.

I'm absolutely shit at it, but that trademark Blizzard polish is there so it's hard not to like. The fact that it's not f2p is also encouraging, but sadly in today's landscape that's no longer an indication there won't be micro-transactions out the wazoo.
