That's pretty long for a cat.

My one dog lived to be 23 somehow. Only reason I was able to even track the age was she was born around the same time as my niece.

I bought Forza Horizon 5 while it was 50% off since this is the final monthly festival for Horizon 4 and I don't want it to be over. Looks like it's been 55% off earlier this year, but I can't go back in time.

To take a break from those ancient Humble Bundle keys I have some demo impressions. They were piling up so I played about 15 of them although about 5 I quit after less than 5 minutes, so I didn't elaborate on those. The best ones here were Dungeon Divers and Escape from Ever After, with Astromeda and NO-SKIN also being very decent. Dungeon Divers was the strangest of the bunch (NO-SKIN was second for sure) about finding secret rooms, but still being fun.

Astromeda – 63 minutes completed demo. This one is an RPG about humans who land on Earth after being away many years after it was deemed unlivable. When you come back bacteria rule the earth and are trying to take you out. You are separated from your space crew and must try to find them. This one is quirky, decent enough music, decent enough graphics and interesting enough overall. It is Undertale inspired and the worse thing is the battles which have platforming parts where you must dodge the enemy’s attacks. This is a bit clunky and I feel the hit boxes are funky too with whatever engine this is using. Still very solid and looks interesting. I would get it on sale or bundled. 7/10

CROPS! – 20 minutes complete first stage. This one is an auto battler where you plant crops and they auto attack enemies on a map. You need to plant crops in formations to be on the field and a few of them get bonuses for being adjacent to other crops. You can also get from wins bonuses on the field of which also come with more spaces for crops. When a crop is planted on these symbols, they get a bonus like more health or reviving once with 50% health. This feels kind of unpolished especially in the beginning of battles where you place units and they could overlap and the battlefield and graphics themselves are not super impressive. Also, I feel ranged attackers both yours and your opponents probably have too much of an emphasis on battle, as physical attackers are stronger, but take tike to get to an opponent. Honestly, it’s a pretty average game overall, but feels like it will get old quickly. There are boss battles as well, but these felt easier than battles with many ranged units. 5.5/10

Dice Player One: Trailer – 6 minutes completed a few battles. This is Yahtzee the dice building game where special dice can give points and you try to get the combinations in Yahtzee trying to get the point value and beat the stage before a set number of turns. The UI is not very good in this, although it’s going for some graffiti aesthetic. This is just really boring, as it’s just Yahtzee plus, but the scoring gets very confusing with all the dice. I didn’t enjoy this one and felt it needed quite a bit of polish. 5/10

Duck N Roll – 51 minutes completed demo (time off because had to water and left game one). This one is likely one of the simplest roll and do stuff rogue lites I’ve ever seen. Really simple music and graphics and you just make up rolls that all do something like 3 of a kind ignoring armor. The special things are from new dice and special dice and putting icons on dice to do things, but it all feels very generic. Also, shield is not easy to get at all except for a few dice so it’s mainly an attacking game. Didn’t like this one much although it feels like an okay bundle type game. 5.5/10

Dungeon Divers – 3.7 hours. This one is a weird game where you are finding secret rooms according to what type of room they are. It’s kind of like finding Binding of Issac secret rooms. That is the whole game with more basic graphics (not bad but annoying for seeing some things like walls), somewhat repetitive music (still okay), and a basic premise. This gets very hard over time though and the last 2 levels on normal are very hard. I sometimes feel like a room could fit multiple categories and because you didn’t do it in order, you may get a wrong (since it might be right next to another secret room). Honestly, it’s kind of brilliant and would be a fun game to get bundled or on a good sale. It does need polishing, but it’s not bad at all. 7.5/10

Escape from Ever After: Onboarding – 1.2 hours completed the beginning of the game. This one is a quirky Paper Mario style RPG done much better than Born of Bread IMHO from what I played of that demo. This one deals with storybooks and the characters in them and they have quirks and you go around with lots of dialogue, action turn based combat and defending like in Paper Mario, and quite a bit of stuff going on. All I know it looked great, played decently although the defensive timing is very tricky, had a decent story, and felt very polished. The music is quite groovy too and there is no voices. This is a good one and I believe the demo goes through the whole first chapter as well. A very good homage for sure. 8/10

Hollow Survivors: Prologue – 88 minutes defeated 2 stages. This is a more weighty clunky feeling arena kind of Hades brawler. It reminds me of Hades with the movement and having spells, but it’s not as good. The animation and music are excellent although some animations are weird and enemies blend in and do stuff like throw fireballs and have their enemy choreographed attack lines hidden by scenery. Honestly it was one of the better Hades likes in a while although the difficulty felt was more punishing for getting hit as I’m not really sure there is a way to heal. Decent, but would only get bundled or on a very heavy sale. 6.5/10

MistBook – 11 minutes completed a few tutorial levels. One of the simplest ideas for a deck builder where you play cards in order to flip pages. The art, sound, and music are all simple, but not the worst. It’s a unique idea overall, but was kind of boring to play too. It’s really just flipping pages to meet goals, kind of like how Balatro you play poker hands to beat level scores. This is not anywhere near as fun, but I think that’s what it’s going for. There was a simple story at the beginning, but it meant nothing. Would only play bundled. 6/10

NEODUEL: Backpack Monsters – 33 minutes may have previously played. This one is a Backpack Battles auto battler inspired game with dueling pets and it’s alright. I never really get all the synergies and it’s a lot less polished than Backpack Battles. I do think they have something here. I wish more of these games had single player campaigns as well. The sound and music are alright, but nothing special. Overall, it’s one to watch, but feels a little gimmicky and not as realized. 6.5/10

NO-SKIN – 2.3 hours. This is a strange rogue like game where you are in a nightmare place and must defend yourself with a knife and gun. Each room has a probability to find things, which are usually enemies, items, and events. You keep trying to beat things to get items and currency, which can be used on fishes/frogs. Your gun needs ammo to reload as well. This one you play it and every enemy has a pattern. For example, one enemy attacks at first, waits (skips a turn), charges up a big attack, then does a big attack. This is over multiple turns and you can attack, use items, and pray (defend to make any attack do 1 damage). Eventually you will get attacked by a boss and if you beat it you move onto the next area all while a no-skin being is waiting at the end. There is some counter about a chance to find skin, but I think in the demo you can’t reach it. I did beat the no skin man once which unlocked a memory. The graphics are unique and creepy and the music is as well. I really enjoyed this although I fear for the replay value because certain rooms always have certain outcomes. Still really unique, challenging and plays well with a controller. 7.5/10

SPELLHACK!! – 11 minutes beat two levels. This one is a cross between a deck builder and a lane defense game. In this one you play a spell hacker who can cast spells and are on the right side of the screen. Enemies move usually one space left, can deal damage, have health and you need to survive the night. Pretty much you use energy to cast spells, kill enemies, delay enemies with walls and spells, and try to make it through. If you do you can scan areas and do events to get more cards and things. I’m not sure I love the gameplay. It’s decent but feels old already. The graphics mainly take place in an old school computer and feel like an old school game, along with the music. I think this one is good enough for a bundle, but I wouldn’t get it unless cheaper. 6.5/10

Wander Stars – 34 minutes. This one is an DBZ inspired in art and story about a young girl training to fight and she goes off and fights. The special thing about this one is using keywords to alter abilities. It’s kind of neat and the graphics are nice, but the gameplay felt extremely samey and the areas were too long. I was getting bored although the events, graphics and music were alright enough. This is a cool love letter to DB anything in general, but it lost my attention. Still a cool one to try out since there are unique things in it. 6.5/10

Wéko The Mask Gatherer – 20 minutes completed tutorial and some of starter area. I could have gone back and finished the demo (had to save and do other things), but I lost interest. This one is kind of a 3D action game like Legend of Zelda Orcarina of Time. The movement is clunky and a bit slow even with the run button. There is a stamina part for rolling, blocking (which blocks HP loss as stamina, and attacking. The graphics are alright and same with the sound and music. The actual action is not that clean especially with multiple enemies on the field and especially projectiles. This just doesn’t feel very polished and is kind of a bit too basic for my tastes. It also doesn’t help the big open areas just feel open for the sake of being open as there isn’t that much to do in the village you see at the beginning of the demo. The combat being souls like also doesn’t help as everything feels weighty, but it already didn’t feel that great before that (jumping feels awful). I would only get this very cheaply in a bundle. 6/10

Finished-up ELEX 2 [Steam] last week, after 85 hours. That was pretty good and setting up sadly for an ELEX 2. It's basically more ELEX: so if you liked ELEX 1 and/or any other PB games (Risen series and/or Gothic series) & are fine w/ their typical Eurojank action-RPG's, you'll like this. RIP to Piranha Bytes, since they're now gone - and likely, we'll never see a proper ELEX 3 from PB. I would love to see Tinhead (new studio w/ ex-PB dev's) get the IP and finish the story up - but, I'm so dreaming here probably; the publisher (ummm, I think that's Embracer?) probably owns the ELEX IP.

Also some 50+ hours into Greedfall: Gold [GOG]. So far, it's another really good Eurojank type of action-RPG here. Feels like an action-RPG with that type of Dark Souls combat (lock onto enemies if you want, dodge and roll if you got those skills, etc.) fused here with BioWare type of combat (think say DA:O with real-time with pause is allowed, even though you don't have full party-control here, which feels very Mass Effect-y here); this all works really well, TBH. De Vespe Conspiracy DLC was good; finished that after some 4 hr. 19 min. or so, as that does take place during the game somewhere & does feel important story-line-wise, as it's personal stuff for the protagonist you play as and also his family; it's also well-integrated & woven right into the campaign somewhere too. Still plugging away at the base-game content, which has been really good. Voice-acting, story, character stuff and decisions have been all pretty good with this one, so far - which feels much better and less stilted than some of their older titles (i.e. Mars: War Logs & The Technomancer, which both were good & underrated). So yeah - I'm really enjoying this, so far.

Shadow Warrior 3 Deluxe is currently $5.99 on nuuvem. It was the same price last month as well but this time someone on Reddit mentioned it comes with the preorder DLC katana skin. That DLC isn't anything amazing, but it's normally unobtainable.. so if you care about stuff like that it may be worth buying. I bought it and my key came with it.

This is also the lowest price the deluxe edition has been

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster bundle is also $49 at GMG. Not an amazing price but it's a new historical low. Square Enix has been incredibly stingy with discounts for it, especially after 2 years that the games have been out. I believe the PC versions may be the definitive because I think they're the only ones that you can manually fix the scrolling stutter on. All platforms have the same issue but on steam you can use mods to fix/lessen the stuttering

Price drops to $48ish if you use the 2% xp voucher

That's.....exactly what I expected. While I do have a soft heart for Tomba and its sequel, they are not the easiest to play now (talk about floaty and weird hit boxes). I kind of want to just order the plushies from LRG and get the digital later haha.

Tomba! has released on Steam and it's just a ROM running in PCSX-ReArmed per the reviews.

So $20 for that. Up to you if you think it's worth it, but LRG really phoning that one in.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm always happy when rare games get reasonably-priced re-releases, though a quick emulator job makes me wonder why it's $20.

If we started cranking out these PS1 classics at around $10 a pop or less, I feel like there's easy money to be made.

The Mega Man Legends trilogy? The Syphon Filter trilogy? That sort of stuff would get my attention.

Ye Olde Demo Dump™

Boy, howdy, I got 81 hot and fresh takes on some demos!

As always, here's the top scorers (8+) that I think I would recommend to everyone. A 7 is "I like it, but maybe that's me." A score between 5-6 are a pass or "let 'em cook" if it's Early Access. And 1-4 are various degrees of broken to wholly unsatisfactory.

If Halls of Torment was the original Diablo meets the survivors-like, this is pretty close to Diablo 2. Random itemized loot, build changing uniques, grinding boss/runs, secret ports... it's Diablo 2 distilled down into bite sized chunks, with a dash of Diablo 3 by pushing each run a bit further, risk vs. reward style as enemies get meaner

Overall, a solid showing of these past two events (Tower Defense, Pixelfest) and likely going to spoil some of the dinner come NextFest. Either of those had enough content to last we awhile, so I definitely cut a lot of games I wasn't vibing with WAY shorter windows of opportunity. And for what it's worth, I bought Eternower and Artifact Seeker: Resurrection, the latter having a weird bundle price that had the game and the DLC combined cheaper than the base game. I think it's worth less than $4.

Hope you find something you might like!

It's like the fidget spinner of TD; part puzzle, part just vibe with it -- very cheap!

I'm going to go through some of the demos you posted (thanks for impressions I go through the raw data list!) and post some of my own soon since I have a few from the RPG event they had before. Also I wonder if Artifact Seeker: Resurrection was called something else before, because I started up the demo and had continue in the game and noticed it had an old run of mine. A bunch of achievements unlocked upon open too. I may get that one with the DLC as I enjoyed how the passives stacked up and it's pretty cheap. Look forward to demo reviews eventually (likely by Friday).

I actually finished all the demos except for Kunitsu-gami. This includes some previous demos from the RPG Fest thing they had. The major standout was My Familiar, an amazing looking/sounding RPG with a place that's very unique and some good gameplay. Detective Instinct: Farewell, My Beloved was pretty unique (although the Famicom Detective type games are becoming more common these days) and Fishbowl was too short but felt alright.

Angeline Era – 20 minutes. Really weird action game with bumping combat. There is kind of an open world and some little action explore QTE before going in an area. It was alright, looked kind of PS1-ish, controlled alright with the Series X controller, and was a bit tricky to play. I would probably only get it bundled. 6.5/10

Cairn: Mathair's Curse – 31 minutes. This one is an Earthbound inspired RPG with somewhat hard battles. I was very bored with the story even though it tried to be unique the main guy having nightmares and sleeping all the time. It supposedly runs in the family. The graphics are decent but I just couldn’t get into it and the exploring is pretty boring as well. I would still get it bundled, but it felt like it dragged. 6/10

Cat Bait – 12 minutes. This is a one screen arena cute music cat Vampire Survivors thing that just feels like a waste of time. Some of the attacks are just so random and the upgrades are not exciting. Just feels really half baked. 5/10

Detective Instinct: Farewell, My Beloved – 30 minutes completed demo. This one was a homage to those old detective text games like the Famicom Detective games. It had a really nice kind of noir crime atmosphere. The animation was nice, and it’s one of those adventures where you figure out things for the situation at hand through a lot of choices such as talk to, talk about, think, checking out things, etc… The characters were unique and everything was pretty good although the UI was clunky, very similar to those older detective games like the Famicom Detective ones. The music is pretty good as well along with the occasional sound effects. I did enjoy this and would get it bundled or on a good sale. 7.5/10

Dog Adventure Harmony – 17 minutes. A Really weird RPG with action parts in battles to do the attacks and to dodge the enemies’ attacks. It’s a really simple looking only keyboard controlling for now game. This one seems to take place during the pandemic and is about a girl and likely an abusive household. In addition to her world, she has a world with weird looking creatures where she imagines things. I think this may be alright overall and probably has an interesting message, but it feels pretty unpolished other than the decent graphics. Would likely only get it bundled or very cheap. 6/10

Don’t Die, Collect Loot – 8 minutes. This kind of reminds of the scrolling RPG like game on the Vita. It’s kind of like an arcade action game where you try to survive as long as possible and collect loot. You can upgrade stuff afterwards. The graphics and music are passable. Honestly, I had some fun with it, but wasn’t crazy about it. 6.5/10

Fishbowl – 12 minutes completed demo. This one is kind of RPG/Visual novel where you play a girl who is on her own in a new city and decorates stuff in her room. She talks with her family and some friends and eventually sees about a fishbowl she put up with an interactive fish and it starts talking to her. This one looks very nice graphically, even though it was a bit slow. I like that I believe it has Indian characters and is a perspective that may be worth playing. This was probably a bit too short for a demo, but I’d probably get it bundled or on a better sale. 7/10

Hermit and Pig – 9 minutes. This one was not my type of RPG at all. All the attacks kind of have some timing and you need to put 3 input commands to do specific attacks. Different enemy get hurt by different attacks. You pretty much go around and get mushrooms. I expected more of this although it looks good. The music was kind of loud and annoying as well. 5.5/10

My Familiar – 116 minutes. This demo was awesome. It starts out weird with a guy and girl and a failed gig (he performs DJ sessions for money), and it ends up costing him his life where he falls through a window after getting pushed through and I believe he dies. Then game really starts where he wakes up as a familiar in a strange land where trash is everywhere, things have no ambition, and many just bully and control without limits. You have ambition to get out of this world, but you have to keep going up to the highest point of a mountain to accomplish this. This thing has a great RPG battle system similar to the Mario & Luigi series. The graphics are really good in this with great animations and a place that is very unique and actually makes me feel gross being in this world. This world is disgustingly beautiful and makes you feel dirty and low life, just like the main character. The menus also have a vibe to them. The gameplay is challenging, the characters are cool and can be funny, and I was enjoying it a lot. The music is really cool too and has some interesting jazz numbers. This feels so polished and I would highly recommend the demo. One of the highest from any demos I’ve played especially RPG ones. I’ll buy it when it hopefully releases next year. 9/10

Mushroom Musume – A kind of choose your own adventure with stats kind of like the Princess Maker series, but almost more like the Reign’s series. This one has a unique kind of simple look. There is a lot of text and choices and sometimes the story jumps around. I didn’t love this, but it felt unique and it was cool to see the consequences of lots of choices. 6.5/10

Pipsqueak! – 12 minutes completed demo. This is one is a stranger Metroidvania more about exploring than combat. The combat is a little loose feeling, but feels pretty easy and enemies don’t seem to do a massive amount of damage. Overall, this looked OK and felt OK, but was kind of alright. Nothing special although I would get it bundled. 6.5/10

Reindeer Story – 14 minutes. This is a strange somewhat unpolished RPG about a reindeer of Santa’s who isn’t popular and the story of when they come back and on accident let in Jack Frost who steals the presents that can’t be made (forgot the exact name). The battle system is like the Undertale based ones where you have to avoid attacks and stuff. It’s not too complicated to dodge and move around here. I liked this one for the most part with an okay enough story and good enough graphics. Nothing crazy, but it’s OK enough. 6.5/10

Kbob, what does the first number indicate next to the yes/no? Order you played or something?

I wishlisted a few.
It is minutes played. I keep track and then I get to see how much time I put into demos at the end of the year... 🫠

And Artifact Seeker: Resurrection is a relisting of Artifact Seeker. Their original publisher got caught doing shady stuff and Valve banned them off Steam. All the games they published have had to relist their games as Valve refuses to let them takeover their previous games' pages run by that publisher.

So relisting it was their only recourse.

I think maybe in a few years, but because they took down the first two and combined them all into one very confusing steam page with different options, it will still be more expensive than the previous standalone games with dlc. We might see an inclusion of part 1 (Hitman 1), the one that went 90% off recently in the Summer sale, in a bundle to promote the rest, then the total pack would be in a much higher tier if at all. A little sampler pack basically.

Looks like Doom/Ultimate Doom and Doom II were delisted from Steam, and an updated Doom + Doom II Enhanced Edition is going up in its place. If you already own the previous versions you get this new update for free. I somehow never bought the first two games on Steam so I grabbed keys for them on Fanatical while they still had stock.

Here's the information on the upcoming enhanced edition:

"DOOM + DOOM II is getting newly enhanced versions (and now combines both games). New achievements coming as well. Listing up ahead of QuakeCon

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2280/DOOM__DOOM_II/

Developed by id Software, and originally released in 1993, DOOM pioneered and popularized the first-person shooter, setting a standard for all FPS games. The critically acclaimed sequel, DOOM II, followed in 1994. Now the definitive, newly enhanced versions of DOOM + DOOM II are available as a combined product.

Owners Receive:

- DOOM¹
- DOOM II¹
- TNT: Evilution
- The Plutonia Experiment
- Master Levels for DOOM II
- No Rest for the Living
- Sigil
- Legacy of Rust (a new episode created in collaboration by id Software, Nightdive Studios and MachineGames)
- A new Deathmatch map pack featuring 25 mapsAltogether, there are a total of 187 mission maps and 43 deathmatch maps in DOOM + DOOM II."

And here's the trailer:

Hmm, apparently I only have Doom II, wonder how that’s gonna work?

Supposed, if you already own Doom 1 or 2 (or both), you'll get the new Doom 1 & 2 Combo pack.
This goes for Steam or GOG.

See this on GOG:
-> https://www.gog.com/forum/general/f...om_ii_will_be_unavailable_in_our_store/post21
-> Doom 1 and 2 combo page on GOG - https://www.gog.com/en/game/doom_doom_ii

Also, on Steam:
- This is Doom 1 and 2 combo pack page (see below). Check there; see if it's "Owned" for you, if you own either Doom 1 or 2 there on Steam. It shows this new combo pack as "Owned" for me.

EDIT:
- Doom 1 and 2 Combo Pack update's out on Steam; go get it.

Weird. Mine doesn't say anything outside of the dooms not available anymore. Can't even by the combo.

Interesting. I see the $9.99 price for Doom 1 and 2 combo pack on Steam and GOG.

Of course, Doom 1 and 2 seems fun on Steam. Runs fine and all. There's all kinds of Accessibility options, options b/t old and new Soundtracks, and more. It's Doom - how can anything go wrong w/ this port? [shrug]

Steam_appid. txt trick when putting the game number of 2280 in there works on Doom 1 & 2 also, if you're trying to play it without Steam going.
Just stick it in the "Rerelease" folder.

Ah, yep it’s showing as being in my library. Free Doom I is nice, all the extra stuff on top is just gravy.

I finally upgraded my CPU. I have an 7800X3D. I can lock 60 FPS in A3 Baldur's Gate; waiting for that patch!

Also, it came with two free games. Spare Marine 2, which is why I wanted to upgrade, and Unknown 9. Never heard of the latter, but looks interesting. I'll gladly try it for free.
