I've been trying to knock some games off the backlog and I have quickly realized that Slay the Spire isn't the right game for that... knocked out a bunch of achievements, then started on the ascension stuff and hit a massive roadblock once I got into the teens and that is just on one of the three characters.  Rough stuff.  So I am putting it aside for a bit and maybe finally starting Division 2 this weekend.  There was a cag squad or whatever they are called, right?

I did 100% this thing so that is... um, something?  I totally got 89 cents worth of fun out of it tbh.

We have a clan although, if you're just starting, you'll need to progress a bit in the story to unlock the Clan Lady and be able to join. Which is somewhat for the best since I think the early parts of the game are best enjoyed solo and at your own pace rather than trying to keep up with others blowing through the missions.

You're welcome to join though; we loiter and chat through the Spoderfox Discord.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint might also be skipping Steam & be a Epic Exclusive for at least a certain time period:

But, but... I have GabeN bucks I need to spend!!!

I spent like 5 hours yesterday trying to beat the predator in Wildlands. Keyword:. Trying. I did not succeed. Syntax joined me like two hours in and Jimbo suffered with us three hours in. We were so close at the end. It's the dark souls mission of the game.

After applying the latest patch (I have no idea whether these two facts are related), I experienced two separate instances of Mortal Kombat 11 kicking me out of the game, literally, back to desktop, in the middle of a tower because I lost my connection to the game server. I assume this is one of the things that people were up in arms about just before release--many of the game modes are online for no obvious good reason. Presumably this is to prevent hacking or cheating because there are weekly rewards of consumables, et cetera, given out based on one's ranking. However, this seems to be a step backwards from the system employed in Injustice 2, where the multiverse activities were essentially single-player activities, the rewards from which were not specifically contingent on your performance within the universe of Injustice players. These were a wholly separate mode from the MP aspects of the game. Why so much SP content should be locked behind an online requirement is a difficult question to answer. I haven't seen one that would be deemed an adequate justification in my view.

Man, you got your ascension level up to the teens? I love that game and have put over 150 hours into it, but I only have all 3 characters at like ascension level 6.

I'm super excited about the Hearthstone single player launching next week and was thinking of jumping back into Slay the Spire in the meantime, but have no idea what I want to do in the game. I tried some of the creator made heroes and they're cool. I have a bunch of achievements left, but some of those seem crazy difficult. I've only beaten the final boss once, so I could work towards beating him with the other 2 characters, but he's crazy hard to beat. I feel like I'd have to dig around and research strategies to beat him or get the rest of the achievements. I could also just play the dailies. Those are usually pretty fun. That game can be really time consuming.

I also looked at Mew Mew Chamber. Is that just a match 3? I love match 3s, but all that mewing seems like it would get annoying.

I usually watch youtube when I want to go to sleep so before I ever seriously tried to play Slay the Spire I had seen literally a few hundred games on my phone. So I went in really well acquainted with all of the cards and pretty familiar with what the synergies are so basically cheated on the test in that regard. Having said that, a lot of it is luck and it seems like once you get well into ascension you have so much stacked against you that you can no longer just scrape by with an ok deck. If you do not end up with the right cards to go with whatever you picked early and some good relics, you are done. Usually at or before the second boss for me.

Defect and Silent are only on like A4, Ironclad seems the easiest for me if I get a barricade block deck going and the last few wins were with that kind of deck, the one exception being when I got searing blow early and kept getting upgrades from question mark rooms. The main thing I have learned is that a small deck is always best and if my deck gets much higher than ten or so, I want it to mostly be dupes of cards that I want to show up most turns. I always lose if I let myself get a bloated deck. I got Ironclad up to A15 with a few attempts per level at most and then had like ten losses in a row. And considering how horrible the modifiers for 17-20 sound, I can only imagine how long it would take me to clear those.

I have beaten the true boss exactly once per character. If they had made beating it part of ascension levels, I wouldn't even bother trying.

As for the cat game, it was on sale for $.89 the other day and I picked it up on a whim and as a dumb time-killer it is worth that, but not much more. It is not a great match 3 game, that mode is really generic. But it does have a selection of 40 missions where you have a bunch of kitties piled up and you have a limited number of moves to figure out which kitties to move in order to get a certain number of combos, clear the entire screen, etc. So that game mode is more puzzle than it is typical match 3 gameplay. The mewing is amusing for a brief time but I played with the sound off after a while. It is one of those games I'd rate with a shrug instead of a thumbs up or down.

Got Three Dead Zed from the GMG giveaway. Kult Heretic Kingdoms looked like the most appealing game from the bunch being offered, but was already out of stock when I went to redeem the promo.

This is why you have a SP games always online: to try to stop piracy & cheating; and allow for a progression system based around MTX's.

I do think a lot of these fighting games should have 2 separate ladder modes: a ladder-based/tower-based progression/leveling system that's online with leveling systems & loot systems (i.e. MK11); and an offline SP-based mode w/ none of the progression (think like say old-school Street Fighter 2, 3, and 4; and MK1-4).

I ended up going back to Hearthstone Dungeon Run instead of going back to Slay the Spire today. I got a couple wins which feels good since I've played a lot of Rumble Run over the last several months and so rarely get wins in it.

I'm really curious how the difficulty will be with the new single player since this will be the first of the rogue-like modes to get a second difficulty level.

Nothing caught my eye. Any recommendations?
Something with cards I guess. The only thing I was interested in was OOS by the time I got the page to load.

In stock crap with cards...

Action Alien

PulseCharge

Three Dead Zed

BitMaster

Farnham Fables

Russian Superhero Dead Ivan

The Pasture

Bacteria

Black Sand Drift

Is it sad I actually wanted the Farnham game and somehow haven't gotten it from a bundle? I am sucker for adventure games though. It doesn't look amazing though.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will be online-only, requiring an online Internet connection at all times, even for Single Player:

God damnit. Wildlands had an offline mode, but I guess with the success of online-only The Division and R6 Siege they decided to gut it.
Why must they do this?
Edit: Supposedly it's because PvE and PvP stats are shared so I guess they're worried about cheaters and can't be assed to implement cheat detection. But I doubt that's the REAL reason as opposed to DRM and being able to shove MTX in your face.

Yeah, I really liked that Wildlands had both optional online and offline.

But, yeah - with Division series and R6 Siege being successful, I do wonder if they're going to always-online on...eventually everything.

They tried it with AC2 PC on Uplay way back, but had to pull back b/c of the complaints.

Now w/ multiple DLC's, Season Passes, and MTX's becoming the nor - yep, we probably going to see even more of this...unfortunately.

We do know BG&2 is online-only now also - https://www.tweaktown.com/news/64258/beyond-good-evil-2-online/index.html

At least w/ Division series and The Crew, those were new franchises conceived from the jump for online-only. Diablo series, GR series, BG&E, COD all had SP; and some of these had both SP & MP.

So, how long until Stadia, streaming tech, and whatnot takeover? Ugh, what a grim gaming future that would be...

PC Gamer - Wolfenstein: Youngblood is going to have open-ended level design just like Dishonored; and also here's more info revealed about the title.

Things to note:
- Wolfenstein: YB is in development along-side with Arkane Studios (makers of Dishonored series).
- This will have Dishonored's style of open-ended level design for each level (with side-missions and main missions).
- Campaign's shorter, but there will be replayability.
- Though, b/c of its open-world structure, game-play time will be more b/c players can spend more time in the game-world.
- They (the developers) will add extra missions, objectives, challenges, and other stuff after the game's released also.
- There's also an additional co-op feature here.
- Actual tone of the game is lighter than the usual Wolfenstein games also.

Quite a few games that have had both microtransactions and offline modes have been exploitable via cheat engine and other methods to get free currency and get the upgrades, boosts, or whatever without buying them.  Companies realize this and do not like it.  Of course that is just one reason among many.

Been playing alot of Wildlands lately. The game is way funner in coop. Even when I play solo it connects me online. Not sure if I would have to go in and turn that off in the settings if I wanted to play offline, but I don't see the issue. The only potential annoyance is saves. Other day my local save didn't get uploaded to the cloud. Started the game from the cloud save, overrode my local save, lost 5 hours of progress from the night before. Considered rage quitting the game but it sucked me back in and here I am in day three of my unsuccessful quest to defeat the predator.

@BossKey_Fox

Oh, man; I feel your pain. I hate when crap like that happens w/ save-syncing not working properly...and then you lose hours worth of play. Bleh.

Every now and then, especially when I put in numerous hours and the game files don't take up much space, I use GameSaveManager (which will also tell you your save folder's file-size before you back it up - as long as this program supports those games) to back-up local saves for certain games, just in case of crap like that w/ offline and online saves for conflicts and/or not syncing properly.

BTW, I like GR: Wildlands. Played it a bit last weekend; and plan to play more...when I get time. Despite being a combo of MGSV; GTA games; Far Cry games; GR games (GR: WL is not as tactical as the older ones); and any open-world Ubi game w/ grind-y side quests everywhere - it's still ambitious w/ what it's trying to do; and it's all quite solid...even w/ so many elements, game-styles, and genres at play here. Definitely one of those "Sum of all its parts" type of games, which is what makes it good.

Plus, the game's just gorgeous. Like most Ubi titles, the game just looks fantastic on the technical side.

Story & character stuff ain't anything special - but I don't think most ever played any GR games for that. It's all about the gameplay.

You should be playing on Epic Game Store. They didn't want anyone losing save game progress so they didn't implement cloud saves. Epic is way pro-consumer
