I can't be the only one that thinks Breaking Bad was incredibly boring, right?

Right?
how much time did you give it? the first season is pretty dull the first time you watch it (i think in a rewatch it's actually more entertaining because it's a lot of exposition and sets the stage for stuff), and the show gets better with each season that passes imo. i don't think i really got hooked until midway through the 2nd season or something like that

I watched the entire series because everyone told me it gets better after the extremely dull first season. And it did, but I never really looked forward to watching it and usually found my mind drifting while I was watching.

It's just not a show for me, and that's okay.

no you must like everything i like or else

Dexter was pretty good. John Lithgow as the Trinity Killer was the best part of that series, still one of the best villains I've ever seen. But they ended that season wrong, and the rest of the show was pointless after that.

Better Call Saul is also very good, but it's by the same people that did Breaking Bad. So if you're a loser who didn't like Breaking Bad, then you shouldn't watch Better Call Saul either. Tiger King might be more your speed.

I'm just gonna take this opportunity to mention that if you can get through a mediocre first season, Halt and Catch Fire gradually morphs into one of the best shows of the last 15 years that no one watched.

Shows I like that are on Netflix:  Turn, Hell on Wheels, Breaking Bad  (duh).  Also if you want to see a really tripped out Spanish film (English subtitles) about social inequality through a sci-fi/dystopian lens you can watch "The Platform."

I dunno how you guys find time to watch TV, practically all my spare time is dedicated to dry-humping my expanding backlog and complaining about fruit on pizza.

all this tv show deepthroating/shaming aside

Doom Eternal: it's fun. point the gun. shoot the demon, ok. the graphics = pretty. music and sound: mmhmm, good.

for the dev/producer/whoeverthefuck that decided to add all of the platforming
AssuredVibrantFirebelliedtoad-small.gif
Yeah, not fun. at all. why? just, why? you even knew it wasn't fun so you added a skill to make the slayer easier to maneuver while in the air. no.

overall: like but not like like. the fantasy world is appreciated. wish they'd reboot Quake like they've done with Doom. make me very happy.

the end

Breaking Bad should have ended with Season 4 ... they killed off most of the interesting characters by Season 5 and it dragged, especially the whole white supremacist thing, just made it meh.

Better Call Saul is exceptional and has had better overall pacing. Plus it has Mike and Gus, the two best characters in both series.

I come back from just watching Better Call Saul S5E5 to read this.

Indeed it is a superior show in almost every sense. Definitely somewhere in the top10 shows of all-time. The writing and ideas are so original and just impeccable. I find that it's almost like the Wire in a sense; you've got viewpoints from both the lawyer side and regular folks, and that's juxtaposed against the cartel stuff plus Mike, and how everything intertwines. I wonder if they had the Wire's formula in mind when creating this show.

I do like the platforming aspect because if you're not in a fight it feels like a puzzle and if you're in a fight it makes them so much more dynamic, the game would be way harder without them.

I loved Breaking Bad and tried to like Better Call Saul but I couldn’t get past about half way through season 1. I felt as though the story wasn’t nearly as gripping as BB. So it sounds like it picks up considerably later?

Oh, heck yes - I'd love a true-blue Quake reboot with a single player campaign.

I would like for them to aim more for Q1's universe (which felt more like a gothic-style & fantasy universe) b/c it was so different for a shooter and all.

Yes, Q2/Q4 universe is cool and all - but sci-fi's been done plenty of times in this genre (FPS). Or, if they feel so inclined - hell, do both Q1's and Q2/Q4's universe in one game; or do Q1 in the base-game and/or do Q2's universe in a DLC.

I did play Q2 base-game past few weekends on and off - and damn, that was a great shooter. Ran it using Yamagi Source Port. Took me about 12 hours - but that campaign was out-standing.

I've also been messing around w/ WWE 2K20, NBA 2K20, and NFS: Payback.

Long-winded thoughts on WWE 2K20, over here - https://steamcommunity.com/groups/TGAEC/discussions/0/3435626645075037435/

NFS: Payback - wow, the racing itself feels great. Game also looks great here too. 1080p60fps+ on High settings, looks great. I can do 1080p at Ultra, but performance swings b/t 40-70fps - even though it looks amazing. Problem is: on my SC15 laptop, we're talking like 90 degrees at Ultra, so...High it is (much cooler performance there). I really like the 3 character dynamic the game has.

It feels like NFS: Undercover meets some of the Fast & Furious movies; and even some Burnout (i.e. some missions, you are crashing cop-cars....and it has the dynamic cut & feel of a Burnout, when it does the cinematic cut to your knocking a car out.

I don't like NFS: Payback's card system for parts at all. Way too simplistic. I so prefer the other NFS's like Most Wanted 2005 and Carbon, where you can really trick out and tweak the hell out of your car.

I'll never get the praise for Better Call Saul. The first couple seasons were interesting, but the show got so boring after it just became a Breaking Bad prequel.

I have such mixed emotions about Breaking Bad. I was blown away by how good the first season was, but the second season was so mediocre by comparison. The big reveal of that season is seriously one of the stupidest things I've ever seen a highly acclaimed series do. I feel like the show redeemed itself by the final season though; excellent ending. I liked El Camino, but I felt that it took away a bit from the perfect ending of Breaking Bad.

I've been watching Succession lately since it's free from HBO. Loved all of the first season, but haven't been feeling the second season so far. It feels like they broke all the main characters and not the good kind of "broke".

I didn't watch Breaking bad till after watching the first four(?) season of Better Call Saul...  I haven't watched the current season as my DVR/Cable Box acted up and I don't have the first couple of show on it now.  Sucks but I'll get to it.  I would say both shows are good.  Breaking Bad I still thinking on it a few days after I finished it.  It was good/great but not my all time greatest show.  I still think the Shield was the best ever.  Still a lot of TV I haven't seen but I think about The Shield all the time and all of these years later.

I've currently made it to season six of Voyager.  I honestly not understanding the hate for it.  Yeah, not every episode is a classic but in general I would say its really solid and not an embarrassment to the Star Trek name.

Succession is easily my favorite show right now. It is so good. I thought season 2 was excellent. In fact better than season 1 since the first half of season 1 was just character development and kinda slow.

My face when reading the love for Better Call Saul in here.

As great as BrBa is, I think BCS has it beaten in terms of overall consistency. It's such an engrossing slow burn.

Speaking of tv lawyers, I've been indulging some episodes of Perry Mason and Matlock these past few weeks. Lo and behold, look who showed up on a Matlock episode as a college professor:

(The actor is Dennis Boutsikaris, who plays Rich Schweikart on BCS.)

Now, the DEALZ:

  • Syberia 3 - 95% off, $1.49 on Fanatical
  • Ember - 90% off, $0.99 on Steam
  • Niffleheim - 85% off, $2.99 on Steam (was in Hamble Choice last month)

Never forget Tony the Toilet Buddy.

I really need to watch the rest of Hell on Wheels. I think I left off at the beginning of season 3 back when it was airing.

Speaking of Perry Mason, HBO is doing a new Perry Mason TV series.

Voyager caught a lot of flack because well, Next Generation and and Deep Space Nine were actually fairly good. (Not well, culture defining like the original series, though.)
Voyager is passable. It got so much flack for being the worst Star Trek... people had no idea what was in store for them with Enterprise and Discovery.

No Columbo or In the Heat of the Night?
I never digged heat of the night though I did love the intro muzak. I forgot about dragnet. I'd love a remake of that without all the hateboners for pot as if it's the worst drug ever. They has people smoking enbaulming fluid which is called wet iirc the one episode and another with a box full of different pills but wern't anywhere close to as upset about pot. I don't think I have ever watched columbo come to think of it. Or Kojak.

Voyager has it's ups and downs. I think the larger issue was they spent most of the show hemoraging crew members left and right yet it didn't seem like they lost that many and forgot the count, some episodes went nowhere like the doctor getting stranded on another planet and having to find his own way home. Or the demon planet people. They up and reverse a number of character deaths through time travel shenanigans or different dimensions and more often than not they would waste time trying to explore or ticking off other cultures. I'm also not a fan of the loose morals they had while trying to constantly adhere to the rules only when it was convenient for them.

It did have seven of nine, kess and doctor who were all incredibly likable characters so there's that at least. Neelix is easily one of the most unlikable though.

Murder She Wrote
I'm actually sad that netflix removed it right in the middle of me watching the 3rd episode with no warning.

I don't know how well a reboot of that would work. There's no replacing the original actress angela lansbury for me.

They shoot all new footage, in the style and look of 80's and early 90's, and cut it in opposite the original AL/MSW footage. Maybe do some "bad lip reading" style voice work to match her up with the new mysteries. it'd be gold.

Voyager was was crappier than Enterprise. Enterprise ended up being pretty good.

Both fell victim to the later Star Trek changing time tropes. If you can't end a story without time-travel.... consider re-writing the story.

Damn, polygon says the new Xcom might be the best value in gaming since the Orange Box. Looks like Fanatical has it for $9 and I have a 5% off coupon but it's not good on preorders. Wonder if it will still be $9 when it releases tomorrow.
