That just means it streams the games being played on your PC like that service did that went out of business (Onlive?) so it's not actually playing the games, its just streaming them as you are playing them on your computer but remotely controlling them with the Shield.
Yes and no. OnLive streamed games through their service (like Netflix) to their device/your PC, not just simply between two devices in your home. I'm also not sure if OnLive is 100% gone though. What's interesting is Sony is doing a similar thing with PlayStation Now. They're running into the same walls as OnLive though, so I have no idea how they're going to overcome it.

Shield is more comparable to playing PS3 games on your Vita (two devices in one home).

Your computer will be running the game, Shield will connect to your PC through your wireless network using their Nvidia Gamestream so you can stream it to the little handheld screen and use Shield as a controller. Shield doesn't run the game at all really, the PC does all the work. You won't be able to play the PC games outside of your network unless you connect to another PC and network that can run those games.

Pretty much why it's not very popular. If you have to stay around your house to play PC games on your Shield, just play on your PC.
So basically you HAVE to be within a short range of your PC. Meh, that's kind of lame.

Well, at least Portal got ported to the Shield, so thats at least one game you can play on the go.

Expect steam to go for the mobile market soon

This would be completely true.. if Sony wasn't cutting corners in manufacturing. The second Vita iteration has a much cheaper screen and a smaller touchscreen (but a longer battery life/slimmer dimensions/microUSB charging slot). And the Vita TV was just.. no.

Hoping to get a Vita 1k on the cheap since most people don't care about the OLED. I wanna hope that Sony will have a better screen for the 3k, but.. I doubt it.
They did the same with the PSP didn't they? I think the 2000 was the best version, right? (It was slimmer/lighter than the original but still the original.)

Hell, now that I think about it, and look at my launch PS3, I think Sony has had this habit since the PS3 launched at a loss and their TV division was taking losses at the same time... (PS3 is now profitable, TV still aren't.)

I received a Shield as a gift and while it is nice, I personally wouldn't buy one at its current price.  I have played lots of games on it that aren't on that supported game list posted earlier.  The thing I actually like most about it is being able to add some applications as a "Non-Steam Game" and being able to use it on the shield.  You can also add emulators, such as Dolphin or PCSX2, and play games.  I've been using it to play Xenoblade Chronicles and some PS2 games.

True, but by that reasoning I think we're all safe just sitting and waiting. By the time things are getting better in that department, the Shield will be $100.

Pretty sure the 3000 is the highest version before they went to the PSP GO. I have a 2000 myself.

Given my propensity to eat too much pizza and shit my brains out it's actually pretty decent justification
Seriously though, it is really nice laying back on the couch and playing a handheld. I play PSX games on my phone, Pokemon on my DS, etc. It would be just as cool to do the same with PC games.

But yeah, not for $200.

Yeah, that's what I thought, it makes it basically and expensive droid to me.

Yeah, I understand all that I was just choosing not to get into the technicalities for brevity's sake. They essentially do the same thing- stream gameplay.

Well shit... How well does it play things on PCSX2 and Dolphin? That's a huge selling point for me, because I use PCSX2 all the time.

Can't remember if the 2k was the best version or not. It also depends what you want to do with your PSP and as much as I'd love to get into specifics, I'm going to assume I'm not allowed to here. *ahem*

Also, they cut corners on PS3s because monies, correct. Specifically by removing the PS2 chipset that allowed PS2 compatibility.

The only problem with the launch PS3s (other than the console size, and HDD size, though you can easily swap the HDD for a bigger one) is the crappy thermal paste they used. It's the reason for the YLODs (which are becoming much more widespread as of late). The SuperSlim especially, is a cost-cutting joke.

The only reason I would say to not expect similar behaviour with the PS4 is because the PS4 was already made as cheaply as they could get away with. Nowhere to go but up. :p

I like your style. I also suffer from pizzaphilia, but since I eat only the finest pizza in the country (New York), I avoid the gastrointestinal troubles. :bouncy:

In before Chicagoans defend deep dish.

You're right, it went up to the 3k, Inmate is implying that the 3k is a worse PSP than the 2k, is all. And we all already know the Go was a disgrace that never deserved to exist.

Fair enough. I WISH OnLive had streamed as painlessly as streams between two devices in the same home though. Compression artifacts and input lag were big issues with OnLive. (And will be with PS Now).

Yeah, same here... Also had a 1000 but it rarely got played due to its weight. (It was mostly for the wife.)

My memory services me right, or mostly right, on the 3000... You could argue either way on rather or not the 3000 was an improvement due to one glaring issue.)

(Pulled from Wikipedia.)

Hardware issues
On release, an issue with interlacing was noticed on the PSP-3000 screen when objects were in motion. Gaming Bits (among others) did an in-depth review of the differences between the two versions, noting the interlacing issues, and about a week later Sony announced that they would not be releasing a software update to address the issue:[98]

On some occasions, scan lines may appear on scenes where brightness changes drastically, due to the hardware features of the new LCD device on PSP-3000. Installed with this new LCD device, PSP-3000 offers more natural and vibrant colors on its screen, but the scan lines have come out to be more visible as a result of improving response time to alleviate the afterimages on PSP-3000. Since this is due to hardware specification, there are no plans for a system software update concerning this issue.

Looks like the new update will make the Shield basically your own Onlive allowing you to stream from your at-home computer to anywhere you are connected with wireless.
Yeah... that's what I thought was going on when I read Shield page, but then someone here said otherwise and I assumed that I misread something. I guess my interest is piqued again, not that I have $200 in my pocket at the moment.

Yeah, something about a crappier screen I think. I don't think every facet of the 3000 was worse, though.

They added that to coincide with the price drop because it isn't selling well. Don't know why they wouldn't have done it from the beginning. I always got the shittiest resolution and graphics from Onlive while I have no issue streaming HD videos so I never used it. I would hope this might be better though.

Time to wait and see how well it works, in that case.

Oh, that really pisses me off. Shows they really don't give a shit once they have your money. And since they stopped production on the 2k, they know you didn't have any alternative. Despicable

Not every facet, just most of them. Especially homebrew.. and other legal custom firmware related things. Yup.

You should see this booty. I wouldn't want you to be put on an FBI watch list with me, though.
I'm already on the NSA's watchlist which is worse. Pls share da booty.

Cannot really patch hardware at that level... It would be like adding RAM to your video card (or anything else for that matter) via a patch.

Despicable? *shrug* Not sure but you can always buy a 2000 used... Case in point; you don't really think I bought a PS3 at launch do you? ;)

Finished the Bioshock Infinite DLC. It tied up the loose ends nicely and really connected the games across the series. Gameplay was quite fun and different from before. The ending didn't blow me away like Bioshock 1 or Infinite though.

Someone help me, I found PS4 in stock online and the limited supply is playing tricks with my mind. I want one.

After tax it's a whopping $508.49 and games are $80 after tax here. I think my cheap ass blood will save me in the end, but man I'm tempted.

The only games I want are Infamous and I would double dip on Ground Zeroes which I just bought for PS3.

Oh no I found the games on kijiji used for regular pre-price-hike retail price of $60 and $30.

So $670 or so to play one game, and to replay a game you've already played to death with slightly better graphics.

I'm not sure what to say here.

Infamous isnt really worth gettin a PS4 for, I beat it and its just same old Infamous gameplay but with nice graphics. I would get a Xbone right now for Tittyfall and PvZ: Garden Warfare and Dead Rising 3 and even Ryse is pretty fun too. MGS GZ looks great on Xbone also

Buying a console early is good if you like overpaying for everything and dealing with half-baked hardware/software revisions and not having games to play.

wat about pc master race? ;p
What about it, there's nothing good coming out soon. At least PS4 has Infamous and Ground Zeroes. Eventually some other exclusives.

I think I'm safe, it's just not a smart buy and I'm cheap as hell. But I've been so obsessed with Ground Zeroes and constantly seeing PS4 footage that looks about 50x better than mine. :(

I've enjoyed my Xbone. Granted there are some annoying things about it, like no USB media support as of yet, but the voice control is useful and well done, the controllers are lovely, the new Kinect is impressive (facial recognition for automatic signing in, works in the dark, etc), and Forza 5 and Titanfall are a blast (yes, Titanfall is on PC too, but PC players are too good).

If it was my money, maybe I wouldn't be so happy with it.

MGS GZ runs the same on X1 too lol, plus its only 30 mins. only the ps3 and 360 versions are trash doe.

Are you really that worried about new releases? I'm almost never worried about new releases. I have so many amazing games rotting in my backlog waiting to be played. It's not that I don't want to play them, I just haven't yet. They're there, cozy in my Steam library, just waiting for me. What are new releases?
