A Steamrep admin, who has been a friend on my friend list for years, sent me a message with a Steam profile link, saying the owner of the profile wanted to add me to trade but for some reasons he coudln't, so I should add him. I was sleepy and didn't notice that the link was steamcommunilty with a "l" that wasn't supposed to be there. And who would have thought the Steamrep admin, the guy who helps you with security was trying to phish you or got hacked, but he did, he got hacked first and it was the hacker that was using his account.
I clicked the link, Firefox opened, it looked exactly like a normal Steam profile, I clicked Add friend and it led to the login page, I didn't even bother to look for a page certificate on the adress bar, after entering my account and password, it asked for my verification code. I got the code from my email and typed it into the box. And just a few secs after that, my Steam client was automatically logged out saying it was because I'm logging in from another place. I tried to relogin but it said my password was changed, and I also received an email from Steam telling me that my Steam email contact was successfully changed too. I checked my inventory history using Firefox only to see that all my TF2 keys were traded to someone I don't know, for nothing.
It turns out that the phising bot doesn't need to have access to your email for the security code, when you put your account name and password into the fake Steam login site, it uses that to log into the real Steam, when Steam asks it for the verification code and send the code to your email, the fake Steam login also does the same thing with you, you give the code to the bot that way.
Wow. I definitely need to pay more attention now on anything that asks for my Steam login. That's pretty crazy, especially that the Steamrep got hacked.
I hope you, sunasun, and anyone else who had their account hacked are able to get them back.

I don't think Bundle Bandits' mistake had much to do with this incident. All it takes is for one person to get hacked and then it spreads through Contacts lists, as long as at least one other person falls for it each time.

Damn, thats depressing, I'm one of those in your friend list that the hacker tried to phish but fortunately I noticed the extra letter in the url. After that he removed me from the friend list. I bought some games successfully from you in the past so that I thought your account has been hacked and I posted a warning in the steam thread.
Hi, while reading last comments about phising i just got a doubt. If you have enabled steamguard, can you get hacked that way?
When i try to login from another computer (or other device), steam recognizes it and send me a mail with a code, which i have to enter to complete the login. Thought this was enough.

RU+CIS Disclaimer:
What is "RU+CIS"?
RU & CIS stand for Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States (i.e. Ukraine) respectively.
These are the regions where I am able to get most games cheaper from. Most games have the same steam-id as their US counterparts, making them completely region-free. Certain games, however, have different steam-ids in the RU/CIS regions. Whenever this is the case, you need to check the steam database to find out if the game is region-locked or not.
If a game is tagged with "RU+CIS," it generally means that there is a chance the game is region-locked, or only has the Russian language available (depending on what is shown in its steam database entry). It is also a possibility that there are no restrictions on the game.
What does "region-locked" mean?
"Region-locked" means that you will only be able to play the game in the region it was purchased from. In the case of a "RU+CIS" game: if it is region-locked, you will only be able to play it if you live in Russia or the CIS region. This makes the game useless if you live in the US.
Certain games in my list are shown as RU+CIS tagged, such as Assassin's Creed 4, Thief, and Castlevania. The ones I have listed, as of right now, do not appear to be region-locked. Here is Assassin's Creed 4's steamdb entry for example: http://steamdb.info/sub/32627/

The only "RU" tagged game that I know of which was region-locked after release is Aliens: Colonial Marines and the retail copy of Borderlands 2.
The only "RU+CIS" copy that I ever activated myself was Castlevania, and the retail copy of Witcher 2, which both work fine. The point is, no one can be positive of what will happen with "RU+CIS" tagged games in the future. If you decide you want to buy it from me, then make sure you have thought about it first by reading this disclaimer. I will not be refunding you if anything were to happen.

My Steam account is not controlled by me anymore, I sent Steam support a ticket to get my account back but it has been 2 days and i'm still waiting for their response. I know this is old news now but its new news to me as I havent been in this thread. I did get the chat from you a couple days ago and I did click the link and it opened. You are one of a handful of people that I would have trusted to send me something from CAG so I didnt question it. I never log in to steam on the website however and I didnt log in on that link. But I did open it... I left it open for a couple days now. I looked at it this morning and noticed the address was misspelled. So then I went looking for you in my friends list to bitch you out and you were no where to be found. I then looked up your name in CAG and found this post. So here's hoping I didnt get exposed by clicking the link. I didnt click on anything on the page or login so I'm probably safe. But I changed my Steam PW this morning just to be safe.
